I order the 12.9 coming from the 10.5 but now I am not sure I want that big of a jump so I may order the 11 inch and send the other one back.

After reading all of the posts here it does seem like it comes down to personal preference and what works for you and I have a feeling I will go to the 11 inch.

From making the jump from 10.5 to 11 myself I can say that size wise it didnt feel like a jump at all. Smaller bezels and everything made it feel the same size, almost smaller. The screen was a bit bigger ofc but in carrying it around it wasn’t bigger at all.

I think I agree with you. Although, I like my new 12.9 and the weight difference is supposed to very small, it sure feels a lot heavier compared to my 11 Pro. As much as I like the bigger screen, I think I will be keeping the 11. Still waffling...., but 11 much more portable and don’t notice the weight like the 12.9.
I think the size in hand exaggerates the feeling of the weight difference as well. I sent mine back today.

I ordered the 12.9 which will be here tomorrow so I will try it out if it's too much of a change and too heavy I will send it back and get the 11 inch.

The 11” lets you be more discreet in public. I remembered times when people would peep over my screen when i use the 12.9” specially when on tablet mode. Or probably they never see a larger iPad before..

Yeah, I am using a 12.9” atm instead of my 11“ and it is def bigger. I am forced to changing my use pattern compared to the 11” due to how heavy it is. The bigger screen is quite nice even when just browsing the web though so I will most likely stay on 12.9”.

I love the portability of the 11, but after using the 12.9 for the past couple of days I've determined its far more suitable to my workflow than the 11. iOS feels more optimized to take advantage of the larger screen, especially with multitasking (e.g. side by side windows). The 12.9 is more of a true laptop replacement for me and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything when leaving my MacBook at home.

I got rid of my 12.9 as I felt it was just too close to my 12” MacBook.

I can definitely understand the similarity between them. The 12.9 does feel a little bit like I took the screen off my 13” MacBook Pro.

A year ago I bought the 12.9 2018 iPad and after two months I sold it and got an 11" iPad Pro. As a tablet the 11" is much better than the 12.9". Now, after a lot of thought I ordered a 12,9" iPad Pro 2020 despite knowing that the tablet will be heavier to hold than the 11" model. I do not really intend to use the iPad as a laptop. I will use it for what it was really meant to be. I just love technology and I will probably keep the 11" model too. When I want to do something serious though I use my iMac and my MacBook Pro. Much better and more powerful.
The iPad for me is still a work in progress, a toy that I can afford to own.
My general advise is to get the 11" iPad and enjoy using a great tablet. If you really want to go the iPad laptop replacement way, then get the 12.9" model. As simple as that.

This poll always entertains me. For quite a while the 11 was behind and I thought it was going to stay that way. Now it's ahead.

It will be interesting to see what direction the poll numbers might change when the magic keyboard becomes available in May. That’s a major reason I decided to go with the 12.9 this time.

Yeah trackpad support makes the 12.9 a more popular option...i love it so far.

Good job as the wife has took the Apple Pencil as that’s what i used the most before trackpad support.

Maybe that was one reason for me too. I ordered the 12.9 model and of course I will buy the magic keyboard and trackpad when it comes out. It will change nothing for me, but maybe developers will start seeing the iPad as a device that can be used for productive work too and start making apps that have no regressions when compared to their desktop counterparts. This is my biggest gripe with the iPad..

The only guidelines I would give are rather obvious, which are:
- if you care strongly about screen size, get 12” iPad Pro
- if you care somewhat about screen size and portability, get 11” iPad Pro
- if you care somewhat about screen size and portability and price, get iPad Air
- if you care strongly about portability, get iPad mini
- if you care strongly about price, get regular iPad
- if you care strongly about screen size and portability, get two different iPads because those are opposite things
- if you care strongly about screen size, portability, and price, you are screwed unfortunately

But everyone knows this. And beyond these factors, there are a million other factors. Ultimately, how much an individual cares about all these factors determines which iPad (or iPads) is best for them. Unfortunately, no one else can answer this.

Self-quarantine makes me want a 12.9 o_O

I used to think the 11 was the perfect size. Well balanced weight, comfy for reading, Baggable. But after a week inside then I’m seeing all the ways a big screen would be nicer with working from home, drawing and watching movies. I think for “mostly home” use then I’d really like the 12.9. But then if the real world opens up again then I’m not sure if I’m going to start wishing I had the comfort and portability of the 11 again...

I went from the 10.5 to the 12.9 and it took a little bit of portable use to get used to the change in weight and size. But not too long before I never noticed it again.

I agree. We’ve been in a shelter in place order since last Friday and since then the 12.9 has become quite a workhorse for me. Wishing Apple would release the Magic Keyboard sooner because that would be the icing on the cake.

Jump Desktop just went live with full 3rd party mouse support and I bought and installed it on my 12.9 Pro. Works great with my MX Anywhere 2S mouse and Trackpad 2. Makes the big workhorse that much better.

I'm in Maryland and got my refurbished 2018 12.9" iPad Pro 256GB an hour or so ago. We're going to shelter in place tonight along with Virginia.

Lol, yes. ?

I went the route of alternating sizes per year to lessen the pain on the wallet (I do have $100/mo earmarked for iPad upgrades). ?
