Jump Desktop just went live with full 3rd party mouse support and I bought and installed it on my 12.9 Pro. Works great with my MX Anywhere 2S mouse and Trackpad 2. Makes the big workhorse that much better.

With full support does that mean right click as well? Trying to decide what to use as I have both Windows and Mac OS machines I want to connect to. Was using Splashtop for Mac OS before and using Microsofts RDP for Windows Now.

Yes, I could select text with a left click & select and then a right click brought up the context menu with Copy, etc. This is nice as my Splashtop renewal was coming up at the end of the month and Jump purchase was less than half the yearly cost of that. I'm doing this response on my laptop via Jump on my 12.9 Pro, using MX Anywhere 2S mouse and K380 keyboard.

Lol, yes. ?

I went the route of alternating sizes per year to lessen the pain on the wallet (I do have $100/mo earmarked for iPad upgrades). ?
So I take it you sell/give away the old iPad right after you buy the new one so that you only have one iPad at a time? If so, what about instead keeping one smaller and one bigger iPad and alternate upgrading between the two? You’d make a little less money selling two year old iPads rather than one year old, but otherwise after the initial year of not selling an iPad you’d still be buying only one iPad per year and still selling one iPad per year, and you’d always get to have both sizes and one new device all the time. This might especially be better for you if the time between iPad updates gets longer.

I had the iPad mini (5), iPad 11" Pro and iPad 12.9 Pro and a 12" MacBook. Am changing this to;

iPad 11" Pro (keeping) and have ordered a 16" MacBook Pro.

Still have my iPhone 11 Pro max. I think this is (for me) a good combination; iPhone 11 Pro Max , 11" iPad Pro and 16" MacBook Pro.

That's already what I do (alternate sizes when buying). I don't sell since I don't want to deal with the hassle and depreciation sucks on maxed out models. I'd rather hand down my old devices to family.

  • 2016: iPad Pro 9.7 256GB LTE
  • 2017: iPad Pro 12.9 512GB LTE
  • 2018: skip (Pro 11 1TB LTE was just way beyond my limit at $1900 with tax plus the new resolution's not supported in an abandoned reading app I use and there were no good deals on Pro 10.5)
  • 2019 Q1: iPad Pro 10.5 512GB LTE (bought used with ASK and AP1 for $600)
  • 2019 Q4: iPad Air 3 256GB LTE (bought for Crayon support and alternate 10.5" when charging during holiday sales for $600)
  • 2020: likely 12.9 1TB LTE (would depend on discounts and refurb stock if I get 2018 or 2020)
I'm also kinda preparing for the time my favorite reading app stops working on newer iOS firmware hence the reason for the two 10.5" iPads (to be kept on the last supported iOS version).

Pro max when I want portability on the sofa and 12.9 for everything else. Perfect combo for me
This is what I'm looking at doing. As many probably have seen, and even recently, I've been very vocal about my support for the 11" Model. Back in 2018 when the new 12.9 and 11 were released, I test drove both religiously. I ultimately decided that the 11 was for me. It's more comfortable to hold and use as a tablet, fits in more spaces, is much more discreet when used in public, and just over all felt better to use in my opinion. At the time of purchase I was going to work everyday and my iPad went everywhere with me. Well, over the past couple of days I've been re-evaluating all of my tech as I'm due for an upgrade on my iPhone and MacBook. I mean, what else is there to do right now. When I look over my iPad use, things have changed. I now work from home and I'm no longer out and about as much as I use to be. I use my iPad mostly for Movies, Netflix/Hulu/Disney+, Xfinity TV Streaming, and YouTube during my work day. In the evenings I'll browse on it and do anything else that I need/want to do. I'm craving multitasking a lot more now. Like being able to watch videos while browsing, taking notes while browsing, doing budgeting while note taking, browsing, or referencing emails, etc. Not that I can't multitask on the 11, I just shy away from it due to the smaller footprint which makes it a little tougher on the eyes unless you're holding it. I would always just grab my MacBook Pro instead. Multitasking was the one thing I loved when I was demoing the 2018 12.9. After thinking over all this, before I knew it, I had went to AT&T's website and ordered a 2020 12.9 512Gig model ?. And to think, just a few days ago I was on these forums proclaiming my love for the 11. Don't get me wrong, I will miss the 11 and will still tell anyone who plans to take their iPad everywhere that the 11 is the better choice. I loved pulling off the Smart Keyboard and using the 11 as a tablet. I probably won't do this as much with the 12.9. However, when I upgrade my phone I will get the Max/Largest size and it will take the place of the 11 as my go anywhere, morning coffee in one hand, device in the other, doctors office, barbershop, and bathroom companion ?. Very excited to be in the 12.9 camp starting tomorrow! Now I have to decide which MacOS device will fit my new eventual setup of iPhone Max and iPad Pro 12.9. Leaning Mac mini now that I have the 12.9 iPad that can be a Laptop replacement for me. All I really need MacOS for is Retro Game Emulating, and for use as a Plex Server.
It will be interesting to see what direction the poll numbers might change when the magic keyboard becomes available in May. That’s a major reason I decided to go with the 12.9 this time.
This definitely has played a factor in me selling my 2018 11" and upgrading to a 2020 12.9". Just feels like this was designed for the 12.9.
Self-quarantine makes me want a 12.9 o_O

I used to think the 11 was the perfect size. Well balanced weight, comfy for reading, Baggable. But after a week inside then I’m seeing all the ways a big screen would be nicer with working from home, drawing and watching movies. I think for “mostly home” use then I’d really like the 12.9. But then if the real world opens up again then I’m not sure if I’m going to start wishing I had the comfort and portability of the 11 again...
? This without question has an impact.

I felt exactly the same. Ive always owned the 11” IPP, and initially went the same direction with the 2020 IPP. After using the new 11 a couple of days, I just felt like my needs have changed so I returned it for The 12.9. I’m so happy I did because it’s been a total game changer. bottom line, everyone should buy the iPad they think will best serve their needs. For me that happens to be the 12.9.

I find the 11” to be the sweet spot for me. It’s lightweight and portable when I travel with it and the screen is big enough for me to enjoy Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, reading, and writing. It doesn’t feel like I’m holding a laptop monitor when I’m using it on portrait and when I use it landscape it feels like the perfect size. Everyone has different tastes and preferences when it comes to technology. I’m glad Apple gives the consumers the option to choose what works for them instead of having only one size abailable.

Couldn’t agree more. You’re actually getting me more excited ?.

Bottom line is everyone has different needs and use cases. Mine has always favored portability due to constantly being on the move. My last job I traveled a lot. I traveled with a company issued 14”, 3+ lb laptop. My 11 was great because I could take it with me and not add much weight. Well, now my needs and circumstances have changed and I feel the 12.9 will better suit my uses overall. As I said above, one of the big iPhones will suit my portability/one handed needs when that matters.

Had both of them. Returned the 12.9" - it is too big for me. I own a MBP for my work, the iPad was intended for reading and watching videos on a couch. It's a pleasure to do so with the 11". If I wouldn't have a MBP, I would get the 12.9".

This thread really isn't helping me. I currently have a MBP 15 at home and a 10.5 iPad pro. I've got both the 11" and 12.9" on order (I also had the 1st gen 12.9", before changing to the 10.5"). I'm completely lost and confused about which way to go, and keeping both isn't an option.

I travel a lot and normally take both my IPP and MBP with me, so I'm hoping with the magic keyboard, I can just take the 12.9" and save a lot of space and weight. But I also use my IPP in bed to read on my side, and on the sofa as a tablet and it sounds like the 12.9" will just be too big for that.

I find the keyboard on the 10.5" just a little too cramped, although it's fine for short usage. Perhaps the new magic keyboard will have larger keys than the 10.5" ASK, although I appreciate the overall size won't change.

For those who changed from the 10.5" to the 11", did you notice the screen size difference?

Only you can decide what compromises you‘ll be ok with. To do that, as with most things, you just got to figure out what’s important to you. And it would be a good idea to try them out to see. Also if you haven't considered, another option is to forgo compromise and pair a 12.9 with a mini. That’s what I do as I am not a fan of compromise. Or you can get a standard iPad instead of mini if you want cheaper and bigger.

This thread is telling you that you need to decide for yourself. Even to the most causal observer it’s clear that it’s an individual decision. You have both sizes coming use them and keep the one that works for you.

I changed from the 10.5 to the 11 back in 2018 and I can say with certainty that you won't notice much of a screen difference. Or should I say I didn't. The wow factor is more felt with the 10.5/11 to 12.9 jump. Most who jump to the 12.9 love it the first few days. It's a matter of can you live with some of the tradeoffs in portability and convenience handling that will likely pop up as the wow factor wears off. Like many have said, you have to try it for yourself. It's really the only sure way to see if it fits you. I spent extensive time demoing the 12.9 and 11 back in 2018 so I'm fully at peace with my decision to upgrade to the 12.9. I know what I'm getting, what I'm gaining, and what I'm giving up. With what I'll miss about the 11, I can get one of the large/max iPhones to replace those use cases; my current iPhone X is just too small. And if Apple ever decides to make a big iPhone with a stylus, it would make the 11 a non factor for me.

I've personally been on the portable side of Apple devices for a while now with me owning the 12/13" MacBooks, 9.7 - 11" iPads, and iPhone X. I just want to move to the bigger side of things for a change of pace. I feel it fits my current lifestyle and use cases. I'm upgrading to the 12.9 and next big iPhone, and I'm now deciding between a Mac mini or MacBook Pro 16".

I currently own an 11" 2018, and received my 12.9" 2020 yesterday. While the 11" is a little more portable of the two sizes, the 12.9" is still very portable IMHO. Not to dismiss the 11" fans as I currently own one, but respectfully when I lay my 11" on top of my 12.9", the difference is minimal. Honestly, I am disappointed that I haven't had the 2018 12.9" version over the past year and a half. Of course, back then I ordered my 11" online and didn't go into a store to test drive the 12.9", or I certainly would have ordered it instead.

But, to each his/her own and I respect everyone's decision. For me, I am a husky male at 6'0", 245lbs and have normal sized male hands. Therefore, when I pick up the 12.9", it just feels "natural" to me and proportional. When I lay it down, and immediately pick up the 11", it feels like an iPad mini and disproportional to my body size/hands. I haven't read all of the threads in this discussion, but maybe body size/hand size to Ipad ratio is a consideration as well? I stopped by the office today to file some paperwork and while there, I took out the ipad 11" and 12.9" and held them both to get my 10 or so coworkers opinions. To my astonishment, they ALL fell in love with the 12.9" and laughed at me when I held the 11". Actually, their exact words were "it's girly", "it looks feminine in your hands", and "are you wearing high heels"? ? Ironically, most of them were women but their point is the 12.9" looked "normal" in my hands and didn't "look" 12.9" at all. As I held the 11" in my left hand, and the 12.9" in my right, the 12.9" felt and looked better/proportional and for me didn't feel heavy or unwieldly. Again, I am confident this is due to my size/hands/strength (I am a power lifter at the gym) etc. I realize that many of you have different body dimensions than I do and still rock the 12.9". I simply don't find the 12.9" as only a desktop replacement and it EASILY fits into my backpack (ironically in the same pouch as my 11" does). After reading some of these posts, you 11" loyalist make the 12.9" sound SOOO much bigger, yet it's only 1.9" diagonally ?. I LOVE my new 12.9", and can't imagine why I would ever want to use my 11" again. Ultimately, this is my humble opinion and hope that you all are healthy and safe.

Well I’m going to really find out which I prefer. I just ordered a 12.9” 2020 iPad Pro. Gonna test it out and if I love it I’ll sell my 11” and if not I’ll just return it and stick to the 11”. I’m excited to try it.

In a work from home world, I have found the 12.9” to be essential - working side my side with my MacBook Pro (13”), I have been able to somewhat replicate the setup I have at my office. I find this setup useful on the road as well when I need to be very productive.

By itself, the 12.9” can look unwieldy - the 11” more approximates a ”traditional” iPad for content consumption.

In all honesty I can see having both sizes in a collection. I am seriously considering adding the 11” 2020 pro.

Is the iPad a second display in your setup or do you use it for specific apps/functions?

My 2018 Pro 12.9 came in and I’m still not sure what I prefer.

I had a 9.7 Pro, then a 12.9gen2 but I sold them in favor of the 11. But Quarantine had me wanting a 12.9 again so I went for it And now that its here then I’m remembering everything I loved about 12.9 (speakers, screen, less cramped multitasking) but also the things I hated (weight, awkward size, top-heavy). If I could only pick one I’d probably go for the 11 but having that 12.9 again has been nice. So I’m still undecided.

What really irritates me is that, for families, the entire size dilemma could be solved with User Profiles. If we could switch profiles then we could easily could justify buying one of each and just grab the iPad that fits our needs for the day.

Just got the iPad 11 2018. Temparary laid off so Im dabbing into video editing.always wanted to but didn’t have the time. Also have a mini 5 that I’m trying to sell right now but at the same don’t want to. Love the size of the mini. Not sure if I want to keep both. Decisions!!
