6S Plus here and the battery drains at well over twice the rate of iOS 10, apps are noticeably slower and often have loading screens while you wait, something you never saw in 10.

I'm ready to switch back, considering I didn't take an iTunes backup, what are my options to restore back to 10? It appears that I'll probably have to start over but am hoping to avoid that. I do have daily backups to iCloud.

My iPad mini 4 is subject to sudden battery drops and is on the whole draining significantly faster than it did on any version of iOS 10.

Unless things have changed, I don't think you can use your iOS 11 backups on an iOS 10 device. You will probably wind up setting it up as a new device. OTOH, if you really want to go back to 10, you have nothing to lose. Restore iOS 10 then see if your iCloud backups can be restored to your device.

I never really noticed battery issues as I'm not keeping track of my battery constantly, but I still have the same stuttering app animations that have made my 7+ seem like my old iPhone 5.

Okay, it's worth a shot. Do you know how I would go about restoring to 10?

Not bad at all considering the standby time. This is on the same charge as what I posted 8 hours ago.

Changed the title to accommodate newer updates like 11.0.2.

Battery life on my old 6s is horrible at the moment compared to the 8; will try a complete reset and rebuild (not restore) now that at least Health data is finally iCloud-synced.

It's pretty straightforward but can be a little time-consuming. Google "downgrade iOS iPhone" and you should get good instructions at sites like osxdaily or macworld. Basically, mostly off the top of my head -

1. hook up to iTunes and make an encrypted backup - they're the most complete
2. Go to preferences-devices and archive that backup so you can come back to it
3. While you're there, see if you can identify the date and time of the most recent iOS 10 backup, if there is one, and note that for your restore - assuming you find one, archive it (actually...do this step 3 first so you don't overwrite a backup with the backup you're doing now)
4. turn off Find My iPhone
5. google for a reliable source of *.ipsw files - find and download the correct one for your iDevice
6. option-click "restore" on the phone's summary page in iTunes and follow the screen prompts

That's the process by memory. You'll want to google up more detailed instructions.

Thanks, I downloaded the .ipsw file, put the iPhone into DFU mode and cannot restore from any of my previous backups as it appears too much time has went by and they've all been taken since I upgraded to iOS 11. So now we know. I am currently putting 11 back on and will restore to that. Lesson learned about taking a backup I guess, I just never expected the new iOS to be such a drain on the battery and am pretty disappointed in Apple for letting this thing be released in such a crippled fashion. I'll just keep it on a charger twice or three times a day and wait it out until I get the X.

I had issues with iOS 11 but battery life wasn't one of them, so I don't think there's anything incurable about this. I think that there's an extremely good chance that Apple will solve the battery issue in the .1 release or certainly by the .2 release. Here's hoping you haven't thrown your phone out the window or into the bathtub before then, though. :-\

my iphone 7 plus was on 11 % after 4.5 hours today with airplane mode cuz i am on vacation. i feel like i have had bad luck with iPhone batteries ever since the 3G days and i am very ocd when it comes to my iPhone. clean install every few months, push, background refresh and most location services disabled, checking what could potentially influence my battery every few days in the settings menu etc. i odnt think i have ever seen anything remotely close to 8 hours usage on any of my iPhones ever

on 10.3 with 6S+ battery was excellent. MORE than excellent.
since 11 and 11.01 battery drains around X2 -
previous similar use that would have taken 5%,
now gets to even 15% drainage.. i need someone to relax me cause this can get me insane.

i tried draining to 1% to calibrate but in the morning it's still the same.
so - is this simply a deliberate fault by Apple to make me upgrade?
or a "heavier" OS that demands more? (this is the most reasonable option i can accept)

is there anyone else with 6S+ that feels the same? or managed to fix this?

Exactly the same situation. Battery life is dreadful on my 6S+. It was never this bad on any version of iOS 9 or 10. My wife's 6+ is even worse. Apple really dropped the ball on this release. Wish I had never upgraded.

Lol, yea.
The most amazing new “feature” is the ability to suddenly drop like 15% in 30 seconds,
And when charged go up 10% in 2 minutes!
Didnt do recent backups so stuck with this crap.

I have to say, my 6s battery life is pretty much back to normal now. Still not sure whether is was 11.0.x or just that it took a long time to scan/index my photo library (face identification and creation of memories).

My iPhone 6s drained from 100% to 82% in 5 hours doing nothing on 11.0.1

Going to try 11.0.2 now and see if this is an improvement.

Interesting theory, sounds like Google does their scanning on the server side. I know that once Apple introduced the feature it hammered the iPhone as it scanned/indexed, forcing this on the client is not one of their better decisions IMO. That said, do we think it really has to repeat that process in 11?

Apple made a big deal about all the photo scanning being on device for the sake of privacy and iOS introduced a load of new photo analyses. I have had several notifications from the Photos app alerting me to new memories so it's done something since iOS11 went on.

Like I said, my battery has recovered now - With about 30 mins of wifi/4G browsing and a quick 2 min call my phone has gone from 100% at 9am to 77% at 7pm.

Not sure if A11 chip on 8 plus is this efficient but can’t drain the battery on it, on 7 plus I was averaging about 7/8 hrs on from start and also on 11.1 beta. But 8 plus is another league.
[doublepost=1507146079][/doublepost]This is with 20 mins google maps which used to kill the battery on 7 plus.

Update after full rundown. This was pretty great, considering the two days of standby time on my SE.

I’m done with running down my phone all the way because it supposedly hurts the battery, but 11 seems pretty good at this point which is good to see.

Wow that's really good! I was hearing the 8 finally had much improved battery over the 6-7 models, which was definitely needed.
