Just removed the attached Pencil to see if the problems are still occurring without it in place. No issues at first, then sure enough the touch pressure sensitivity issue creeped back in causing me to have to push hard with my fingertip at times in order to get a response on the screen. Back on it goes.

Do not push hard. It’s not a issue with the screen. If a letter is not registering, press it with a different finger lol. Works every time!

So if your typing with both thumbs and you press the letter “G” fives times with your right thumb and it’s not displaying on the screen, you can literally press it one time lightly with your left thumb, and it works every time.

This is a weird fluke, I know..

I’ve tried (2) iPads with the same issue. I don’t know what it is. I have overcome the problem for the most part though.

That only works if your fingers are dry. It's a capacitive screen, after all, it's not like the iPad senses which finger you're using. The issue is more pronounced in the winter because it's drier.

It's also not the issue being experienced by many here. There is an actual issue (hardware or software, though I think it's a bit of both) in which the screen simply stops responding to touch, regardless of which hand/finger you're using. The only "fix" is to wait a few seconds for it to start working again.

Did you see the video I made? Im not sure which problem I have. Mine is only typing related with 4 letters. G,h,t,y only those letters. Only when typing in portrait mode with both thumbs. The letter will be pressed, it clicks and lights up but it doesn’t display in the sentence I just typed. I can press again, nothing, and press with my other thumb and it works.

Funny thing is, if I flip my iPad upside down in portrait mode it doesn’t have this issue at all. Upside down portrait mode where I can feel the camera bump with my fingers. Like this ^ it never has a typing issue. And it never drops letter either.

I just don’t get it. it is very annoying. I wish it would completely go away.

Thanks for posting that.

I’ve noticed the missing type on my iPhone 8+, thought it was software.

This stinks. More irresponsive touch issues. That and the potential for bending are why I am skipping the 2018 iPPs.

I hope Apple fixes this.

Hmm, really weird you would have the same issue with two different iPads. I don't have that issue, and first I have seen, hopefully third times the charm for you.
Im on my 4th Ipad pro 12.9 and the spacebar, I, O. S work about a third of the time. Funny its those letters. When I got this current one it seemed to work fine but in the last 45 days it has really went down hill.

Really strange, hope you can figure out a solution.

I’m on my second iPad Pro 12.9 (latest model), this one that I’ve had for about 3 weeks has just started doing the exact same thing. Not exntirelt sure what to do because it’s a beautiful product but occasionally it’s unresponsive

I bought a new 12.9" iPad pro on the first available day last Wednesday. The o, k, and to a lesser extent i and j keys on the on-screen software keyboard consistently recognized touch with a click and change in colour of the key but the letter would often not appear in any program. For o in particular, it often required several attempts to make the letter register.

Spent time on the phone with apple and they didn't have a solution. A full restore to factory settings didn't help.

I returned it to the store today and picked up a new 12.9" iPad pro. Brought it home and this one is worse. Ofter 5 or more presses of o or k to get it to register. When the iPad is turned clockwise to landscape mode, the q and w are then in the same region of the device and they don't work either. Seven presses of the q before a letter appeared on the screen. It seems the bottom right of the touchscreen has an issue.

Called Apple and we went through the same routine. No solution. Taking it back tomorrow.

Apple couldn't find any reference to the same issue but I see that the iPhone X has had similar problems.

Any one else experience similar issues?

I know this is a several month old thread but I had the same touch issues with my 2018 launch day 12.9. I thought it was the glass screen protector I put on it. Took the protector off and the issues continued. I finally was able to get a video of it happening on my phone. Took it back to Apple and the replaced it. Issues gone.

Be careful with it. Don’t bump, drop, or hit it. And it’ll stay that way.

I didn’t drop or hit my launch day one either and it had touchscreen issues. I’ve owned every iPad and my 2018 12.9 launch day iPad was the first time I’ve had any touchscreen issues. It was really bad. Keyboard would skip letters, scrolling would stop and just all around touch issues. I knew from past experience that the issues I was having wasn’t normal performance for iPads.

Not saying you did. Only these iPads are super thin, fragile and flexible, and it may have something to do with the touch issues everyone is having.

I’m on my 3rd 11” iPad Pro. This one is perfect, with perfect touch response! I treat it like it is a piece of glass lol. I’ve had this one for about 2 weeks now. It has shown zero signs that it will have the problem either.

I don't think it's connected to the thickness - bendgate issue is connected to thickness. This one is more about problems that develop after using touch screen and poor circuitry. You're lucky! I had 3 iPads with the same problem and in the end Apple just refused to replace.

Honestly I don’t think the bending problem is that serious. All three 11” models I had were straight and all unlocked cellular model too.

I’m just happy I can type and I don’t have typos anymore.

My last 2 iPads never had a screen protector on them and still had touch problems.

This one I have now, has a glass screen protector and it’s perfect.

If I ever sell my 1TB iPad, I’ll be sure to list as “Doesn’t have the touch bug” lol.

That’s good then. My newest 11” iPad is about 2 weeks old now, and touch response is perfect.

On paper it sounds good but I should have taken a video when it was doing it. I didn't expect it to spontaneously fix itself, so now it'll probably start again after warranty.

I fully understand. They cost a lot and should be treated as such. I haven’t had any issues traveling with mine on an almost daily basis. Keep it in the Apple folio or Folio keyboard. Stays in my Tumi backpack or Coach leather messenger according to the meetings I’m in.

My touch issues on my launch day 2018 12.9 were immediate upon taking it out of the box. It for sure wasn’t caused by handling. I bought a glass screen protector from amazon, which arrived the day before the iPad. I even installed it before turning the iPad on. That’s why I always blamed the issues on the glass protector. But it wasn’t. It was the iPad. The replacement is working great.

I made a video and posted it on these forums about my last one. It was very annoying, and it wasn’t fixing anything. I had to hold it upside down in portrait mode to avoid typing issues. It was very unusable almost all the time.

I hope I never have to deal with touch issues again. I purchased a 1TB cellular model brand new. And, if it develops the issue I’m selling it and buying a laptop. I’ve got my fingers crossed, so far so good. I really hope it stays this way, because I really appreciate such a small, thin, and powerful device. There’s just nothing else on the market like it.

There’s a guy on here who is on his 4th or 5th iPad Pro with touch problems. I’d say your lucky getting a good one on the first exchange.

In my case I can’t credit luck. I’ve every iPad since week two of iPad 1. This new 12.9 was my first touchscreen issue. My first hardware replacement because of an issue. I broke a screen on another one but that was my fault. We have to remember that people that take the time to post on these forums do not represent the mass majority of people that buy Apple products. If the issues I had were truly effecting tons of people there would be a much larger news covering of it.

Plus, Apples CS has always treated me incredible. Their products have a great warranty and I buy Apple Care plus so it’s not an issue for me. I know if I have an issue Apple will fix it. I certainly haven’t had that experience with other companies.

I understand. I have no illusions that all iPad or Apple is perfect. I still believe the mass majority are fine. Most people that own an iPad have probably never heard of Macrumors. My entire family is Apple only and I’m the only one that’s a member here or even checks forums. Most people just buy products and use them. You can’t get a good survey of actual issues from forum threads.

Again, as I’ve stated over and over, Apple has a great warranty and I also have Apple care. If I happen to have another issue I’ll get it fixed. Any product that sells millions and millions of anything is going to have a few lemons. And yes forum threads make up a few... an extremely low number of actually people that own iPads. It’s also rare for people without issues to come start a thread about not having issues. There’s no way to prove it but I bet people that post on Macrumers don’t even make up a messarable % Of iPad owners. Products have warranties for a reason.

Not just macrumors. I repeat you not experiencing this anymore doesn’t mean it’s not widespread. Just google “iPad unresponsive screen”, you’ll be surprised by long long threads since year 2017! I saw one thread with almost 300 replies!

Warranty doesn’t cover iPads after 1 year and this problem develops itself with time, so warranty is a bad excuse here. AppleCare+? Really? I will never pay a dime to Apple until they start admitting issues and fix them.

Why are you saying low number? Are you from Apple’s marketing department? Did you count the cases?

It is unfortunate about all of the issues with iPads. I dealt with it first hand, and hated the new iPad pros. I was so mad, furious, and was ready to just throw it away, and move on.

I’m happy my issues are resolved.

I think what @RevTEG is saying is, most all of the iPad Pro users are happy with the device. Go read reviews anywhere! Walmart, bestbuy, Newegg, Amazon. All of these buyers are very happy with the device raving about it. So, I’d say most people are happy.

Yes I know there is a few quirks with the new iPads. I’ve experienced the frustration. But, probably 4.5 out of 5 are happy.

I had (2) bad iPads and it took a 3rd one to finally experience normal operation.
