The Dynamic Island is a silly feature. Apple is trying to make the best of the bad situation of still needing a notch. If I were in charge, I would have nixed it because it adds too little and creates inconsistencies across devices. Besides the UI inconsistency, it also introduces additional code, which makes more work for developers and increases the chances of bugs.

That said, I’ve grown accustomed to the useful notifications I get in the Dynamic Island. I will probably be disappointed when it’s removed when I upgrade the phone in a few years. This is another reason Apple should have passed on the idea. It made half the users critical when it was added. Since it is temporary, half the users will be upset when it is no longer necessary. I was in the first group. Now that I find the feature useful, I'll probably also be in the second group.
A notch is needed because, the tech is not available for FACE ID under the screen.
The Dynamic Island is an upgrade on the iconic notch, which I personally liked.
Most people clearly don't see the island resembles the letter "i" making it iconic, as well as very useful!

Unless much bigger cameras are incorporated, which would necessitate the change in lay out, however you have a valid point, in that the current lay out has become iconic with iPhone pro

Oooh yes, true--the current layout with much larger lenses would probably cut into MagSafe too much, so a horizontal layout would be necessary...still, maybe it'll just take some getting used to--but the idea of a Pixel-like camera layout on an iPhone doesn't sound too visually appealing. (Although I'm sure Apple will make it look much nicer than these renders, with chamfered edges and plenty of visual bling)

It’s a downgrade for everyone.
Not a downgrade for everybody. Those of us using a regular iPhones (not pro, plus or pro max) it is just more of the same except for a promotion display instead of fixed 60 Hz (a major update for some), another new chip (ho-hum) and a slightly larger display.

I was talking about the frame. For you it’s the same in that regard.

The article doesn't, however aluminum is much better at heat dissipation, which Apple need to improve quickly, because with the AI, things are just going to get hotter.
Apple can't build a vape chamber, because of MagSafe

What does MagSafe have to do with a vapor chamber?

12GB RAM. Aluminium. New camera design. Smaller Dynamic Island.

Looks like I’m getting the 17 Pro Max!

Titanium isn’t bad but I much prefer Aluminium. I hate the camera bump design on Pro Max. Dynamic Island doesn’t really bother me but the closer we get to a full display screen the better. And 8GB is not going to last much longer so more RAM is a must.

I went back and forth about if I was going to buy this year's Pro Max, upgrading from my trusty ole iPhone 11. I did buy my daughter a 16 for Christmas, but I think I'll hold off just a bit more so it's just a huuuge clear difference. I mean a huge freakin difference in dozens of ways! The people complaining about incremental updates, perhaps consume less and enjoy what you have more? I dunno just a thought.

I've been waiting forever to upgrade my iPhone 13 mini! Haven't yet!
You and I are in the same boat. I have the 13 mini and really just want another mini. I understand people enjoy larger phones. But other people enjoy smaller ones. A small, medium, large offering would be nice. If the smalls and the larges aren't selling that well, then maybe every other year release them - eg: 2025: small/medium. 2026: medium/large 2027: small/medium etc. I am fine missing a generation or two or more, knowing that hey, in X years a new mini will come out and others will like knowing that in X years a Max will come out.

Maybe that's too much common sense..hah...

It would also be fine if they brought the Mini back as part of their SE line.

Let them settle down between Titanium, Aluminium or SS! I have 15 Pro Max and I am planning to buy iPhone 19 PM or 20 PM. I do not wish to buy Aluminium one again. I might buy the cheapest iPhone in the line up and try out Samsung Fold 8 or Fold 9. These are too expensive for outright purchase every other year or three.

Reason 13: It will be the best iPhone we've ever created, You're going to love it.

And still no Touch ID, despite Touch ID being a key feature on Macs and iPads. Tim Cook is awful, and Steve Jobs should have instead made Scott Forstall CEO.

That’s a take I don’t think I’ve heard. We had Touch ID, it was deemed inferior by most of us, which is why for years now the expensive iPads and iPhones have used FaceID. You want Touch ID over Face ID, or do you not know that Touch ID has already come and gone?

Personally, I believe the “key feature” is biometrics, not a particular form of it. I personally find Face ID far superior, but I also don’t doubt a few people out there prefer Touch ID 🤷‍♂️
I just don’t get how “I prefer Touch ID” turns into “and still no Touch ID”.

I won’t be buying another aluminum iPhone at any point in the future.

The frame in the 16 pro series is aluminum. The titanium is a ~1.3mm thick strip wrapped around a fully internal aluminum frame.

So what phone will you be buying, then?

I liked iPhone 12 Pro Max Surgical Grade Stainless Steel very sturdy, bit shiny, strong and very durable. Anything less than Titanium Aero grade will be a downgrade for sure!
