I am not familiar with how Apple handles inventory and such when they are releasing new devices and mothballing others, but all signs seem to indicate that the Mini 4 is being phased out. Even online, the only matching silicone case and smart cover are pink sand. The stone case is available, and maybe four or five basic color covers.

Now whether there will be a replacement, I can't speculate because I have no idea how Apple does things, but for what I want a smaller device for (mainly for testing a cellular trail camera app), the Mini 4 is perfect. I figured I'd better grab one while I can in case Apple decides that the iPad line is just the iPad 2017 and the two iPP. Mini 4 is a beautiful little device that is a handy size.

I have two of Amazon's HDX 8.9. They've gone to lower-priced, lower-spec tablets now. Don't want to take a chance that Apple doesn't have a smaller device. I don't need Pro features in a device that size so I won't be upset if there happens to be a new higher-end small iPad.

I have an IPP 9.7 and 12.9 that i got a year ago...should i just get this for the extremely good price? and use it for small stuff??

jeanha124,

You're the only one who can make that decision :).

I'm not an Apple user, never will be. I "live" in the Windows world. I got an iPP 9.7 last fall, mainly to use for emails and such when we are at our camp since the size and battery life are better than my Surface 3 for that sort of thing. There are things about handling photos from our trail cameras that drive me batty, but it's still an easier solution than other things I've tried.

I got a 10.5 iPP on release day. Thought I might sell or give away the iPP 9.7 but have decided to keep them both. I don't want to put a test app on either of my "production" iPads and the Mini 4 is a nice size so I picked one up today.

I am the only human in my household :D. My cats don't mess with my electronics. I'm afraid to count how many computers and tablets I have and use, but I am confident that it is more than 10.

If you think you'd use the Mini 4 and you can afford to spend the money, I'm going to be an enabler and say, "Go for it!" It seems to be a nice little device. If Apple releases a new one and it's less expensive than the new iPad 9.7, the specs probably won't be nearly as good as the Mini 9 specs. If they release a Mini Pro, the price will probably be higher.

I have an Air 2 and a slew of other devices - desktops, tablets, smartphone, etc., a mix of OS's - Windows, iOS, Android. I recently picked up an Android 8" Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablet for $299 in lieu of a larger iPad and I'm finding I'm using it more than any other device. Ignoring the choice of ecosystem, the size is very nice for using around the house as it readily fits the hand. Point being, the mini size is nice for the "small stuff" and the price is hard to beat.

This is an even better deal than when I got it at Best Buy for $299 last month. But I had a $50 gift card, so it brought the price down to $249.

Technically you bought it for $299 which is more than the sale price now. If you are within your return window you should contact bestbuy and get the $25 refunded to you. That’s my plan. I should be getting $50 back for 2 iPads bought through that sale.

My store only had silver or gold so I passed. Must have black bezel!
Order online! I'm a black-bezel only person, too.

My silicone back case (lavender) and front cover (midnight blue) should be here tomorrow, along with the mandatory non-glare screen protector. Once I get those in and the Mini 4 settled, I'll be able to enjoy using it.

I just got my gen 2 12.9" last month, but I also have a iPad mini 2 I use for random travel etc, and as a companion to my pro. I have been debating upgrading my mini 2 to this just to be more future proofed on that as well. Simply can't decide! UGHHH!

I decided to buy a space gray mini 4 just to lock in the price. I can leave unopened if I want for 30 days. Now to figure out the best thing to do with my mini 2.....would like to get like $120 minimum.

Picked up one of these today to replace a Mini 2. After getting it all set up, there's a very noticeable yellow tint compared to both my Mini 2 and iPhone 6S.

Is this a known issue? Worth exchanging? It doesn't look good compared to the other screens.

You wouldn't happen to have night shift on, would you?

Tested all models with night shift on and off, white point reduction on and off, adjusting the Mini 4 as best I can to match other models...no matter what I do, it's noticeably more yellow.

Googling the problem shows some old threads talking about manufacturing glue still drying out and that the problem will correct itself in a few days. So I guess I'll wait and see.

I hope it works out for you. I've had my Mini 4 since shortly after launch and haven't noticed any problems with the display.

I find it kinda insane that the brand new iPad mini 4 is cheaper than Apple's out of warranty replacement cost ($299).

It's the same if you want to get your 32GB iPad Pro 12.9 fixed, you can pay Apple $599 to take your device and give you a refurbished model, or just buy a refurbished model for $589 and keep your broken device as well.

Just wanna give Best Buy some huge props. So, my mini didn't come yesterday. Checking the tracking via BB, it shows it's on its way still. UPS says it wasn't ever picked up, or the package can't be found. So, called Best Buy, and they are canceling the order.

I had originally ordered a $249 open box one. So... they let me order a brand new, unopened one, and credited me $65 for my troubles, which brought it down to $259 after taxes (the other open box was $269.99 after taxes). I am also going to the store to pick it up instead of having to wait for shipping.

Great customer service.
