It's still assumptions because we don't have reviews yet. But... all of those factors I mentioned objectively, factually lead to more heat. The only thing Apple could do is improve the engineering on their cooling systems to counteract that, but... the Air is still passively cooled. So unless they engineer magic, which I would love them to, it's going to run hotter than the previous Airs.

Is it going to run HOT? No. Is it going to run hotter than M1 Airs? 99% likely.
Agreed. Add to that that the M2 is a hotter chip already, we are going to see an Air be throttle much quicker than expected.

My guess is they have stock around that needs to be moved, to plugging in a newer chip makes it easier for them to sell it.
Haha yeah that makes a lot of sense too. I mean very few peopke would buy the 13” the last 8 months when the 14” has existed. I myself didnt spring for the 13”M1 because they appeared to do nothing but toss the new chip in the same old form factor/design.

The m2 air and m1pro mbp otoh appear redesigned for apple silicon from the ground up, it makes no sense to buy anything else imo

The heat sounds like it might be a concern. Using the M1 MBP 14in, I still have not heard the fans come on after 2 months of use and half the time hooked up to the ASD in clamshell.

For someone like me, the M2 is of no benefit as I'm not remotely approaching the limits of this M1 Pro.

they highlighted the fan so definitely thermals. but it still makes for a crappy purchase. just can't argue with the business.

my guess? people who work outdoors like people in constructions, people in the oil industry, etc are very sensitive to heat and this would be a better purchase for them.

The M2 definitely runs hotter, so I can already see the thermals being a huge selling point of the 13" MBP.

Why would people working outdoors in construction or oilfield run MacBook's? I cringe thinking about taking mine to the backyard. In the oilfield, we always ran ThinkBook's or something like that, durable, cheap to replace, and runs the most generic software.

It's like they had spare M2 SoCs and spare M1 shells, so they married the two and called it a "refresh" (I'm not even sure Apple is considering this to be a refresh for the MBP 13"). I't s a very odd refresh....almost as if the 13" MBP will soon be out of production as a product.

No need, we can already see based on Apple's own graphs that the MBA will throttle quickly and therefore performance will be much better on the M2 MBP.
That is assuming none of the thermals for the MBA M2 have been redesigned to better manage heat. Not to mention that I would think that most using the MBA are not buying it for high intensity graphic work, etc., that will require the horsepower that will throttle the M2.

The design of the new chassis has been seen in the 14" and 16". That chassis has a tendency to get too hot if the wring chip is placed in it. For instance a M1 Max in the 14".

While that maybe a possibility, several users here have actually stated they intend to use the performance side of it. So I can already see them be disappointed in that regard.

My guess is that Apple is just trying to do right by the very few people who currently “need” the touchbar for their workflow (those who became to some extent dependent on it for their work during the time Apple released it)

It seems obvious they are phasing it out and because the form factor is not prime/new (no notch) I think the only people who should get it are those for whom the touch bar is top priority, and those folks should get this and find a way to not need it or an alternative soon..

Anyone else buying it, IMO, is not making an ideal choice
There are only two Macbooks in general that have a Touch Bar and a M chip. This is a nice option. Shame both are 13" :(

Just thinking... this model will really stick out if Apple releases a 15" MacBook Air next year.
It is not a current model. It is an old model with an m2 thrown in. Normal consumers should not buy it. Only enterprise people whose very specific workflows make them dependent on the touch bar.

Apple is just not advertising those facts to the world because there are some ordinary consumers who will be confused and not know what rhey want and for whatever reason think this is the best or a good buy. But it is not, and it will almost certainly become an extinct design.

Follow the form factor changes. Things are moving toward M1Pro MBP chassis and M2 MBA chassis…they started with the 13” m1/2 mbp chassis but are moving *away* from them.

It is a bad buy for everyone except those enterprise people who absolutely need it.

The 13" MacBook Pro with M2 still has the TouchBar. No MagSafe. 720p webcam. So it has a fan. Big deal. It's an outdated design. Can someone explain why Apple thought this product was necessary in light of the new MacBook Air with M2 that has mostly superior specs?
Nobody wants a fan, nobody.

Unfortunately, we just need them.

I have been thinking of replacing my M1 Air with whatever they announced I have been wanting 1TB+ storage and while the new Air looks nice I don't know if I'd rather put up with a Notch or a Touch Bar... I honestly am leaning more towards the M2 Pro. Now I just need to convince my bank account..
