In front of the screen like other ultraportables.
This is something you'd have to compromise for the compact form factor. The 12" iBook had a full-size keyboard which took up the full width. So you'd have to scale down the keys or makes the end keys (tab, caps, shift, etc.) less wide.

If Apple goes the sub-notebook route, they should try to nail the tablet market. No one's come out with the 'killer app' in that realm and everyone I know would love to have one. Students who'd like to carry a MacTab to class and take handwritten notes directly into iWork, raise your hand. Sooner or later the iPod bubble will burst, innovate some more.

I could see Apple altering the MacBook lineup a little bit, in two ways:

differentiating the BlackBook further from its fellows (to justify the surcharge) - optional matte screen (PLEASE), discrete graphics, 1 512MB SO-DIMM stock.

or

offering the the black throughout the MB line, and simply offering a top-shelf MB with those features.

Obviously. Fine by me. It's not like other ultraportables don't exist.

Some Place Only You Know...
Stop talking about an 11.1 incher...it would be nice, but the thread is bout the 13" which would be soooo much better and more usefull...

BTW- I also do think that a tablet would be a fab idea from apple. As said, not many companies make decent tablets...so...apple...

Batman.

We're saying a 13" mbp is highly unlikely and a 11.1 is more probable. That's all.

I want a small MB Pro. I want a graphics card, backlit keyboard, etc. I had a 12" PB before my current 15" PB, and I miss the portability. I don't want to settle in any way as a result of having a smaller model. I never did like that the 12" PB was crippled. I'd be happy to pay $2500+ (academic pricing) for a smaller MB Pro with all the goodies. As soon as something like this comes out, I'm buying it. If it doesn't come out soon, I will have to make a difficult decision between continuing to lug around a big MBP or the feature-limited MB :(.

I completely agree with you. I would be more than happy to pay the money for a smaller MBP.

Even if the family is complete, no protection is 100%, right? There are always mistakes. :p ;)

I don't care about the lighted keyboard, the PC card slot, digital audio out...whatever.

I want a tiny-ass, metal laptop with a dedicated graphics card.

For me it's all about portability, but I've had both a powerbook and an iBook and the metal of the powerbook is infinitely nicer to use than on the iBook.

Also, tablets are a joke and Apple really shouldn't bother with them. I'd rather see further R&D on current and other products than bothering with a tablet.
