As an early adapter of the 2016 MacBook Pro, these reports give me pause. If the A17 chip has a design defect, the only way to fix it will be to cripple the performance with a software fix. No thanks Apple.
I wouldn’t pause over it. My 2019 MacBook regularly gets extremely hot and Apple has never resolved it. This is unlikely to get fixed either. 😂

But then it is so unusually bad, even when we consider Apple's recent worst time track record. This level of heating should have never left the test bed. It isn't like butterfly keyboard where maybe the lab workers are babysitting the MacBooks and always washed their hands. My 15 PM can literally burn my skin if I fell asleep with it touching my skin.

So i have a 15promax here and it is warm, i would not call it scalding but warm. I set the SO phone up as brand new, we do not transfer between OS versions. This is warm after a day or so of indexing. The battery life is also not amazing. I have a 15 pro in the box ready to setup, i am just considering my options, the 14 pro is also trash battery life and has been hot every since the upgrade of 17

My 15P got warm during set up and then again 3h later randomly for 4 min and since then never got hot. It gets warm on the MagSafe charger but it’s the same like on the 13P

My iPhone is getting hot while taking 5-10 photos in a row .
When I want to delete them one after the other and the photo is moving to trash I sometimes get a pink flicker … really crazy

15 PM got very hot on first use and was fine the next day. But this morning I was outside (a very cool, wet overcast day here) taking some pictures and it started to heat up fast to the point I got a warning. Wasn't doing anything other than checking out the zoom lens.

I pulled my case off and the back near the camera array was almost untouchably hot.

using the 15 Pro Max while plugged into a 60 W charger, browsing Safari & social media. it's not even warm.

important note* seems like Significant Locations turned itself on after I switched phones. so make sure you go turn it off.

That’s where I felt mine get hot after a 30 min phone call before. Put it on the MagSafe charger and it’s perfectly normal and charged up just fine from 49% to 94% with no extra heat. Seems like the common denominator here is heating up during phone calls.

I was on a call with Verizon for 90 minutes, don’t ask(ugh). I was plugged in and it wasn’t hot. I hope Apple figures out what is going on with this heating up thing.

seems like the most common activity during these rapid heat up spells between the Pro and Pro Max are when phone calls are being placed.

My Pro Max has been heating at various times, but none of it was during a phone call. In fact I have had a phone call longer than a few seconds ever since owning it.

For my case, the tasks that can reliably heat mine up are MagSafe charging, and playing a certain (2D) game.

Titanium has much worse heat tolerance than steel so no doubt heat is transferring outside the casing more than before. I figure apple would have realized this and insulated the battery but hey that could cost 2 cents per phone.

I've been on Android/Samsung for several years. Felt the improvements were worth coming back into the iPhone world after a several year hiatus of having all models previously.

This is quite the disappointment. Battery life is extremely poor and the 15 Pro Max 1tb that I have is heating up significantly along the top half.

If they end up patching this via software and nerfing performance with reduction in voltage then this is disappointing for prior 14 Pro users as its going to be essentially and identical phone released as a new model.

I'm already looking to go back to my Fold 4. Not to mention the keyboard on iOS is shocking compared to gboard on Android.

My 13 pro max was the hottest iPhone I’ve ever used and constantly throttled when I was using it in the sun or a hot car. I’m hoping that the iPhone 15 pro max is better than that phone. So far it got hot while getting it setup but nothing too bad. I’m using a leather case and so far I haven’t notice anything too terrible.

The cpu is basically the same as last year’s A16. They are simply pushing it for better numbers.

Phone got a little warm (definitely not hot or uncomfortable to hold) while syncing iCloud Photos, It actually paused for a few minutes due to heat. Been fine since then.

I’m not too worried overall, but this is an area where it seems like Apple can improve. Top notch chip, top notch materials/display, it would be nice to see them improve the cooling architecture. I wonder what the trade offs are (other than cost, of course).

If the only trade off was cost I think Apple would have improved thermal management years ago.

Perhaps to make a real dent in the heat it would take up too much space and Apple has determined the trade off isn’t worth it yet.
