Well considering I have had the 16GB for a year now (3G) and I only have 4GB left, I am getting the 32GB. What we don't know (maybe we do but I don't) is how much storage every minute of video consumes... I know on my HD flip i get about 2 hours of video for 8GB of space...

That's an interesting point also for me .. Anybody out there who can already estimated what a minute of VGA video probably will take?

I'm getting the 32GB because my 16 is mostly full and I anticipate I will be taking lots of video with it.

I have a 16GB ipod touch which is nearly full, so I'm getting the 32gb iphone. Besides, I can now sell my ipod touch and my current phone, which will net me more then the price I'll be paying for the 32gb iphone.

I'm with you. I'm selling my 1st gen iPod Touch and iPhone 3G to get the new one. 16 GB wasn't enough for me. I have about 11 GB on my current one. And all of my important photos and I'm at full capacity. The 32 GB is just in time. Now I can expand my camera roll with photos and LOTS of video. :D

16GB. I'm never too far away from my computer that I can shuffle some things around in iTunes, etc if I need to.

Don't plan on shooting a terrible amount of video with a 3.0MP camera either.

I'm in the same situation. I only have about 100 songs that I want, the rest I just listen to on Pandora. Also I will probably take quite a few videos and have as many apps as the phone can hold. Since I will have the iPhone 3GS for 2 years, which one do you guys think I should get?

Money isn't a problem either, just which one is more logical is my issue.

I have an 8GB iPhone 3G now and after debating a bit, I decided to get the 16GB 3GS. I don't have any music on my phone now so I have 5GB free. I may put a little bit of music on the 16GB though.

i have been thinking about getting a flip, but the iphone 3gs i may not. do u feel that u wont use the flip as much? or the iphone will do a good enough job and ud sell the flip?

Thanks

Since I'm about to lock myself into a 2-year contract. The biggest size is the best value.

My collection of digital:

*135GB of Audio
*10 Audible books
*400GB of Movies/TV Shows/Concert movies/porn clips/general home videos/Apple Videos/Music Videos
*Numerous podcast audio & video format
*30GB of Photos (RAW & jpeg)

32GB is a must.

This phone is not made for doing video. Just like it is not meant for taking pictures. Even with a 3MP camera. Come-on guys. 3MP!!! You would not even look twice at buying a camera these days that only takes pictures at 3MP resolution. Sure, it will suffice in a jam when I cannot carry a my Digital SLR with me or my digital HD video camera, but for real. Why people are justifying getting the 32GB iphone because they plan to shot a lot of video with it is beyond me. I mean really, do you really want to record that much crappy quality video. I guess some people do.

My other thing that I am laughing at is the people who are saying they have like 100GB+ of music on their computers so they need at least the 32GB iphone. I mean, that is what apps like Simplify and Pandora are for. You dont have to carry all that music around with you becuase you can get it wirelessly on 3G or via wifi. That is the real beauty of this phone.

And photos....Store your photos on MobileMe and access all of them anytime you want via your phone or a computer.

Anyways, that is just my 2c. Many will probably not agree, but whatever. I dont even think I am going to upgrade from my current iphone yet. Not really all that happy with ATT, and would rather not be stuck in a contract with them for another two years, especially since rumors persist that they iphone may be available on other carriers within another year or so. :D

Good luck deciding.

For thsoe wondering about how much space the video capture will take.

Now this is just a guess, but an educated one.

The Flip HD 4 GB records 1 hour of video at 720p 30 fps. That is h.264 too. We can pretty much bet that the iPhone will also record h.264. The iPhone also records at a lower resolution (VGA). So at the very least we can assume the 16 GB will hold up to 4 hours of video. Possibly up to 6 or 7 since it is a lower resolution.

I have a 16GB now, and I opted for the 16GB again. :| I have tons of music, but like some other people have stated, I don't need to carry my entire library with me. I change the music depending on what I feel like listening to.

I didn't factor in video recording into the equation though. :( AH well, didn't want to fork out an extra $100, especially since I'm likely to upgrade the phone again. Maybe.

For those ordering a 3Gs, is 16gb enough to you or are you springing for 32gb?

With the video recording features and better camera, 32 isn't seeming so huge anymore.

I'd make this a poll if I could.

it depends on the user
16gb should be more than enough for some apps and a little music
however, i have 14 and a half gigs of music, and cant even keep more than a page of apps on my 3G anymore, so 32gig is what im going with. I need the extra space

Darn you people! You just cost me an extra $100 plus tax....

I changed my order from 16gb to 32gb.

With kids i'll probably do a lot of video.

Rule of thumb for me. Go ahead and buy the largest capacity. You always regret it later if you don't. ;)

I bought the 16gb...wondering if I screwed up. I have a 16gb now. It's been working.

I just got the 16GB. My current 16GB has never been filled up and I get a great selection of music to get me through the day.

32GB.

I have a touch 16GB and that is filled with 14GB of my "fav" music only so if I want to store pics, apps, docs and maybe a movie or two I need at least 25GB

Exactly what I did. I wasn't even sure if I was going to buy the 3GS but I decided that I'd go for it using my mom's upgrade. Since I was still on the fence, I decided that I'd just go for the cheaper $199 price. I'm selling my phone next week for almost $300, so I'll have some left over to buy a new case or something.

If I could have gotten for 199/299 I would have gone with the 32gb. Since I had to pay 399/499, I went with the 16gb. My 3G is 16gb. If I need to free up some space...I connect it and remove a few things I had been meaning to anyways.

Just changed my order too! Ughhh...you people made me spend more of my graduation money. The video camera will probably capture some great moments though...
