I agree, in notebookcheck.net review they pretty much said the same
"All in all, the new MacBook Pro 13 M1 seems to be filler product that does not make much sense. We cannot find any real arguments to prefer the Pro over the new Air. We suspect Apple will eventually discontinue the entry-level MacBook Pro 13 in the not-too-distant future and only offer a single (and more expensive) MacBook Pro 13 (or maybe MacBook Pro 14) with a more powerful M1X processor."
Lol, it makes perfect sense. The NBC guys only have to look back to what Apple was doing prior to the M1 release a couple of months ago. Apple needs something to span the gap between the MBA and the higher end SKU of 13" MBP. That's what the current 13" MBP M1 is doing. Once Apple is ready to release the M1X or whatever the higher end CPU is we'll see an update to the high end 13" MBP and the 16" MBP. These will basically replace the current Intel versions that Apple is still selling with the "more" Pro options like 4 USB/TB ports and higher performance graphics. Apple is using this time between releases to allow yields of the M1 to improve and refine the process. No one knows what the next CPU design release involves. Whether that is just the M1 with more cores and a higher clock or possibly going to a chiplet design like AMD uses where Apple just uses two (or more) M1s.
