For me it’s that I refuse to charge anything overnight. So 70% would make me feel more secure that the phone won’t die during the night. But that’s just me and my use case. I have had the 13 mini and I loved it - but could not live with the battery esp. since my cards, travel pass etc are on my phone
Out of curiosity, why don't you charge overnight?

Refuse to charge overnight? Curious...

I slow charge with a 5w overnight because who cares how long it takes, and I'm asleep.

I charge every night too…no brick days will be here soon…all the talk about carrying around a 2 pound phone so you can have 70% battery left at the end of the day so the cycles stay up made me laugh.

I tried the iPhone mini cause it was small and light but the screen size left a lot to be desired. This is almost as big as a pro max without the eight and girth. its perfect

So. Why do I care if the battery is 20% at the end of the day and goes on the charger instead of 70% like with the brick 16 Pro Max that I currently have.

Now I’m getting a lighter, thinner, smaller phone and not carrying around a brick. Seems like the perfect phone for me.
Your point is very well taken. IMO far too many folks here worry about battery % ad nauseam. Just use the damn thing, and adjust charging (really easy by placing MagSafe at one's regular locations) if necessary, or buy an external battery.

You don’t get it, people want to be on Tiktok as long as possible these days /s

Oh, we get it. We just don’t buy into it. Why not carry a nice phone around instead of a brick all day long and then go oh I’ve got battery left lol… in this day and age if you don’t know how to add a little extra charge in your battery if you need it during the day somewhere, then you shouldn’t be carrying a phone at all anyway. Feel.

It may not seem important right now with a fresh battery and an OS optimised for the latest apple silicon.

Wait a few years after your battery health drops to about 80% and the OS gets heavier and you may find yourself appreciating the buffer of a larger battery.

But that’s also another problem for another day.

You're absolutely right of course. But I think a decent amount of people these days belong to the IUP or just decide to trade in their iPhone every year and for those people that is not an issue. I was tempted to join the program this year myself and get the Air. That way if it proved to be too compromised for my tasteI could just upgrade to a different iPhone model next year.

I am curious as well. What is your phone doing at night other than....maybe waiting to charge overnight?

When the Air is new, the battery is a non issue for me. If I need extended heavy usage periodically (like travel), I bring a MagSafe power bank. But carrying one attached all the time, defeats the purpose of getting the Air. My only battery concern is when the iPhone Air dips below 90% battery health a year or two down the road.

As I’ve said elsewhere, the issue isn’t a user like you. You upgrade every year. Your use case is irrelevant for this.

There is one usage pattern that impacts battery life. It needs two conditions to be really bad.

-A certain number of major iOS updates will degrade battery life even with 100% health, but…

-Battery health is irrelevant if the device isn’t updated, but poor battery health affects battery life if it is updated.

So, a usage pattern of a long-term device user is the following: I buy the device. I use it. I update it. If that’s the case, battery life matters. Have 100% health on the original iOS version and finish the day with 20%, and by iOS 28-29 and lower health you’re not making it through the day anymore.

Well I don't because I'm never far from a charger and I purchased the battery for when I'm out of the house (my car outlet charges at a glacial pace).
FWIW, if you car happens to have an old school cigarette lighter socket, with the right USB-C adapter, you'll get much faster charging. You have to get the right adapter which may depend on your car. I did that for my car even though it came with 4 USB outlets.

I have a (probably overly cautious) approach to this due to a house fire 3 years ago at my neighbors house that started from charging a bike. In the aftermath there were numerous articles out about the fire danger of charging anything overnight. So I don’t 😅

Do what you will with yourself ... but there is a massive difference between a 2,438 mAh Apple iPhone Mini and a (likely) 20,000 mAh (unknown brand/model) e-bike in terms of fire hazard.

Exactly - and this is why I said overly cautious. But it’s never caused a problem honestly since I usually have plenty of time to top it up either before bed or in the morning ☺️

I'm not sure if there was a question there, or just a statement, but you do you petal 😁

The "brick" is no exaggeration, and this comes from someone who always buys the Pro Max and even pre-ordered the 17 Pro Max. But honestly, I can’t stand how thick these phones are—not the screen size, the thickness---. The iPhone Air seems to finally address that: large screen, super slim, premium build.

I’m happy to trade off a bit of battery life and a simpler camera for those changes. Some people just don’t get the importance of form factor and design, focusing only on bigger batteries and more cameras (and by the way, the camera on the 17 Pro Max isn’t that special, with its fake 8x zoom—it's just cropped digital, not a true optical lens).

Another win for the iPhone Air is that it’s all Apple’s in-house chips now. I have a feeling the 17 Pro Max will be forgotten after just a couple of days of use (coming from the 16 Pro Max), while the Air will always feel fresh and impressive thanks to its new, modern design.

I charge everything over night because it's cheaper in So Calif.

My wife's 17kWh PHEV, my 72kWh BEV, all my rechargeable devices, etc...

Helps to have a state of the art smoke and heat detectors from the garage to almost every room in the house.

Plus built in fire sprinkler in every part of the house in the event of a fire.
