Yes. You pick a database and then you can do a word or number search for that database. There is no way to open Strongbox and do a search on multiple databases without keying a specific one for a search.

Can you do custom fields in Strongbox? This is one of the reasons IIRC I didn't consider ProtonPass because you can't add your own fields

I am curious what password managers can autofill passwords for non-browser applications. For example, when you connect an external drive that has been earlier encrypted using Disk Utility, you are prompted to enter a password. (As you would expect, in this example you can choose to store the password in the keychain.) Codebook can easily handle these instances on macOS and Windows with its “Secret Agent” helper application.

Absolutely. Download the free version first, and you can play with custom fields there.

Every entry is effectively the same type:

- un/pw
- URL, email
- TOTP, Expiry, Tags, SSH
- Group
- Notes
- Custom Fields
- Attachments

This exists in every entry. That's why it's not perfect, really. If you wanted a credit card, you can have that. You just need to put most of the data into Custom Fields.

Whether you tie a credit card together with the login information on your cc company's login will be up to you, because it'll have a un/pw and url there for you, as it always does.

1Password can do that; I use it that way all the time. It's pretty nice. I have the standard 1Password hotkey set, so when there's some field to fill in some app, I just press the hot key and small helper pops up which allows me to choose a password and automatically fill it in.

That's what I was asking for. Do have several vaults (databases within strongbox) and need to have them open all the time (work, private, family). Looks like it does work with macOS but not iOS?!

On Mac, you can have multiple databases open at once. They are treated as separate instances.

Would advise you to get the free version to play with it.

While there is an option to add TOTP, expiration date, SSH Key, and additional URL etc., you do not have the ability to create custom fields of your own choosing and naming.

I am confused, are you two giving conflicting answers or am I missing something?

Custom fields are supported.

See here the feature list on the developers site:

Suggest you just download the free version and try it out to satisfy yourself it meets your needs before committing.

PS: sites like this have well meaning folk posting wrong answers and malicious folk posting nonsense for whatever reason drives them.

ah, do not get me wrong I have nothing against @Apple_Robert @drumcat , we are all just chatting here. I just wanted clarification.

I wish Strongbox had Windows support :( Oh well.

If they choose to go Windows route I can see them growing significantly.

I'm using StrongBox and synching with Keepass2Androd app on my phone. It works great. No Cloud needed.

I can now sync all my attachments, which wasn't the case with 1Password 6 on Android. I also like that I'm not forced into predefined categories. You can name your folders anything you want. Custom fields work great and are easy to understand and implement.

I am moving to a new mac and I want to continue to use 1Password 7 standalone version. Can I just download the version from the app store and use it wiht my license or is that a different version (I don't want to use the migration assistent, I am doing a fresh instal)?

As fare as I know this are different versions. You could try copying the 1PW app from your application folder to the new Mac.

I recommend pwSafe 2. It’s cross-platform and securely holds all of your password username information. I have been using this app for years on iOS, macOS, Linux, BSD, and Windows machines.. I have never had a problem with it.

Keep in mind that security and convenience are opposite ends of the same line, the closer you get to one the further away you travel from the other. You cannot have total convenience and total security at the same time.. you are going to have to choose one. pwSafe 2 offers security and is free of charge for local use.

How is pwSafe 2 more secure than 1Password?

Nice ad.

No, it doesn't work that way. Some apps give you both. Can you explain how you have this on Linux or Windows? The site doesn't say it's cross-platform. Seems odd to not explain that...

There's a download link for 7.9.11 on the following 1Password forum thread:
