Similar story for me on the 3rd --- had Easter Egg hunt's in the afternoon so knew I need to get there early enough to get out by Noon. Got there around 7:AM and was the first in the reserved line -- I could have arrived at 9 - and still been out in plenty of time. Sounds like your store had a longer line for 3G's than mine did for release day ipad's --

good job, dad!

Scott,
Enjoyed following your saga throughout the day. I was fortunate enough to be at home this week, so was able to wait for the FedEx guy to show up. Your posts and those from others who were waiting and/or had received their 3Gs kept it interesting. Earlier in the thread a couple of other Katy residents mentioned getting theirs, so I knew mine was near, and sure enough!

Anyway, typing this right now for my new 64gb 3G iPad.

Enjoy yours in good health.

Hey man, glad it was a success for you tonight. Sorry I couldn't be there in line with ya. Enjoy your new 'Pads and give me a report! :)

Glad it worked out well. :D I should ask my store how long their line was, it could have went either way.

Seven hours in line? Now this is a dedicated iPad man.

Shame the OP had somewhere to be at 6PM... here at the Tysons Apple Store in Virginia by 6:15PM, no lines, and plenty of all models to had... I had to work till 6PM - so no early arrival for me today... and glad that I didn't go at 4PM or so... talked to the guard and he said the line wrapped around a couple of times. Kudos to Tysons Apple to clear the line in just over an hour!

What a douchey response. And I thought I was the dork.

Did you read what I posted? I don't have time to wait an hour once 5 pm rolls around.
If I don't get it this evening, it would likely be days before I have another chance given my schedule. I can work from here just as easily as my office too.

I agree a bit harsh from him... for me I had to work till 6PM today and have to be up to be to work tomorrow at 8AM... so I stopped by Tysons to check in my chances after 6PM... if the lines were long I was headed home... and when I got off at 8PM tomorrow - would take my chances on what they had... lucky for me Tysons Apple rocks!!!

I was one of those that waited in line in the #1 spot for the original iPhone for 19 hours. I did it to guarantee myself a phone and also so I could say I was the first in Wilmington, NC to have an iPhone...haha

It was fun that day, enjoy the experience!:)

Had to work that day till 9PM.... and wasn't set on buying the iPhone at the time. The next day I decided to stop by the Tysons Apple Store just to look at the iPhone.. no lines and they still had stock! :)

So I wasn't too worried about the iPad 3G this weekend....

Thanks everyone!

I just got back from the dance, and it was PRICELESS. :D

Today was a blur. This thread made it go by very fast actually. And thanks for all the positive comments and replies.

BTW, mcvaughan costs me a ton of money. He got me hoooked on this crack we call Apple... thanks man. lol

Congrats Scott on all accounts....

Will let you know if I keep my wifi or take the hit and keep my 3G LOL

Thanks Chip. :)

I am syncing the first of the 3G's now. It's taking a while to load it up. I haven't setup the 3G part of it yet to know how it's going t perform, but I'm glad I have it for 2 reasons

1) The option of 3G when wifi isn't around
2) the GPS is a true GPS which may come in handy with many apps later i suspect.

I had the wifi for a day and decided I wanted the 3G. The waiting SUCKED, but now I'm glad I did.

I was First in line at the Los Gatos Store and it was amazing...They treated me like loyalty.... The manager would come out every half an hour or so and check on me.. They provided me coffee and Water and i was Privatly escorted by the manager as the first one in the store :) Hope everyones having fun with there iPads :)

Hey Scott, glad it worked out great for you! It was so good reading your updates - felt as if I were there, and made me wish I really were.
What a dedicated dad indeed. Have fun with your brand new iPads!

Thanks Chip. :)

You are welcome Scott,

Thought that I could live with the wifi only option since I am forever an iPhone user. :) But have found it frustrating at times when I wanted the richer content of the iPad vs the iPhone.

Fretted about the extra costs - like keeping monthly bills down here :) You know that $15 a month here and there adds up. LOL But there are ways of saving money, when someone wants something. :)

As you I have high hopes of apps that will take advantage of the GPS in the iPad.

Scott, they did the same to me...I'm glad I got there early at about 3:30, I was number 30 in line. The wife held my place in line while I went and picked up a mall cart and grabbed a Starbucks. We had a great time chatting in line. When they opened back up at 5 pm, I had my 64 gb 3G in hand, set up and was out the door by 5:30'ish. I was amazed at the speed and efficiency at which they were working. I imagine they had plenty of practice on WiFi day. But I can't complain as the manger threw in pogo stick to say sorry for canceling on me with no notice. Apple really does have great customer service.

I got to the store closest to me at 8 am. No one is here yet. I am surprised, but happy. I have to be somewhere at 6 pm, so I didn't have time to wait long after 5. I thought, if I get here now, I'd be done by 5:30 or so. Well, looks like I'll be done by 5:05. :D

Not disclosing which store just because I don't want that broadcast out there, but it's one of the handful in Houston. :)

I can work from here just as easy as my office, and I even have a power plug. :p

Did you get the iPad chain with yours?:D
