My phone went completely through the update until: restoring firmware and then the error message appeared! Now my older phone is a brick. I would wait a day or two before downloading and installing iPhone 2.0!

well if it is a brick you might as well throw it away... a brick cannot be restored without swapping mainboards.

Iphone 2.0 firmware upgrade failed - disk full

Warning to others on Windows - clear as much free disk space as you can BEFORE you start the upgrade!

I'm on Windows, have some folders compressed, and at the start of the upgrade I had over 5gb of free disk space...

Got as far as "restoring..." then the process hung for 5 hours and used up all available system resources... explorer finally bombed out with the dreaded "the application failed to initialize" error.

I was forced to reboot, leaving my phone at the apple logo and spinning circle. Now, I'm frantically deleting every possible thing that isn't necessary and hoping I can restore...
