So today i decide i want to dive back into macworld.
I am currently using a thinkpad t61 but lately been doing a lot of
graphic design and when i ordered the thinkpad i opted for a dedicated x3100 video chipset.

So i take a drive down to my local apple store choose th 15" 2.4 model.

To make it short when I got home I noticed they were 2 tapes ,one slit across and one on top to cover the other one. So my first impression is "ITS USED"

I am pissed at the fact that I just paid retail and I got a used computer. So I call the store speak with the manager and he explains to me in a rude way by the way that all macbook pros had to be opened to INSTALL leopard.
I did not buy the story so I called lincoln road apple store. And, I asked the same question the lady on the phone tells me theres no way that would happen because the latest shipments have leopard installed from factory.

She puts me on hold comes back and tells me that it appears that all macbook pros where opened for leopard I SAID OK blah blah hung up the phone opened the computer and what do i get TIGER INSTALLED.
I said FINE giving apple the benefit of the doubt AGAIN.I commence to install leopard
and low and behold i get a YELLOW TINT accross the screen i am upset at this point. I ONCE AGAIN give apple the benefit of the doubt and install leopard thinking maybe the video dirvers need to be installed (i know that was not the case been working with computers for over 12 years just being hopeful)

The computer finishes the installation and I finally get to see leopards intro screen but wait a minute is BLURRY...
I get to the registration screen where you input all the info and the font is unreadable distorted, out of focus type of problem.

I SAID ONCE AGAIN MAYBE WHEN I GET TO THE DESKTOP IT WILL FIX ITSELF (now keep in mind my ocd is already on active mode at this point i think the computer was used, returned and re-wrapped so im not happy but im willing to fight my ocd and move on) I get to the desktop finally and it still looks like crap
I move the lcd screen back and POOF it is clear the font is sharp just like other awesome apple screens im happy but it did not last long within 10 seconds the screen goes into a purple tint then fixes itself then goes back to a yellow tint fixes itself and then the tint is gone but the font and the screen is distorted again. I gave apple the benefit of the doubt more then 1 time in a span of 1hr and as much as i hate to say this. APPLE 2007 SUCKS

I knew 10 years ago that once apple gained marketshare the quality level will drop and i was right.

Take this as a warning because it sounds like their pushing the fish thats about to turn. Theres an agenda gooing on at apple right now and is not in favor of us the consumers. Might be updates forthcoming and their pushing all the stock they have or apple products just are made up of cheap components and are no longer the quality we use to get.

Going back to the store tomorrow to get my money back i know they will try everything in their power to charge me the re-stocking fee but i will not go down without a fight. Just really dissapointed is like apple is wasting so much time on otehr stuff that leave their main busines on the sideburner.

By the way to get in the apple store i had to wait 15 minutes because accroding to them they are "trying to improve customer shopping" they should concentrate more on ironing out perks on a 2500 dollar laptop.

It's funny, I went through 4 MBPs before settling on one I could live with. Either the MBP had a bunch of dead pixels, either the fan inside made loud noises or either the LCD screen had corner gray areas. I didn't settle on one till they gave me one with a flawless screen even though the keypad was curved inward, but I was willing to living with that.

It seems to me Apple has a hard time building quality laptops.

Now, I have a 24" iMac and although there is one very small hardly noticeable dead pixel, it's pretty much perfect. No obscure noises or evident screen defects.

It's the price we pay to use OS X I guess.

If the machine is faulty the OP should just take it back and get it sorted. I really don't understand why people get so emotional about their IT gear - problems happen! I count myself fortunate that in the last 7 years we (through my company) have bought a total of 12 macs and not had a problem with a single one. we've also bought 7 windows machines in the same period and had problems with 4 of them (Dell Laptop: DOA mousepad; IBM Titanium ThinkPad: Failed Logic Board; Toshiba Laptop: Failed keyboard; Compaq Laptop: Failed Logic Board)
Yes, it's annoying when you get a problem with a computer but it's hardly the end of the world: You get it fixed and move on!

If you buy a Mac, you apparently have to invest a substantial amount of your ego in the choice.

It would be great if people read beyond the title (or even the first post) before saying "suck it up and take it back". If you did, you'd see the guy's been taking it back over and over again, and Apple has been giving him one sh*tty Mac after another. Face it--they've got a stock of these inferior products, and they're just going to keep selling them until the last sucker's bought them. It's a bit more complicated than "take it back, dude!!!".

Why is it that on DISCUSSION boards if the thread is not towards something
people want to hear is considered trolling or whining?

I simple started this thread to explain a situation i am going through
thats it nothing more-i know about 4 people that went through the same problems and read other reports on the apple forums about this as well.

So am I really trolling? I gave apple my business again as it stands apple have about 5500 dollars of my money and i have no MBP because i was unable to find one at the retail store. now if that doesnt ring a red flag in your head
then what can i do if you fail to see pass the title.

The title and the content is completely diffrent. My complain is both towards service and the build quality we are recieving on a 2600 computer.
Like i stated before -i have a rev.a macbook pro, macpro, macbook iphone i have sold a **** load of apple products here i use to have the imac sold it.
i BEEN HAPPY WITH ALL MY PURCHASES except for thsi time around.... This year alone i have spent at least 16k on apple hardware for both my business and personal use not counting the amount of shares i have purchased. Excuse me if i see something wrong with not BEING ABLE TO FIND A DECENT LAPTOP AT THE RETAIL STORE AND NOT RECIEVING THE SERVICE
YOU.ME DESERVE AS APPLE CUSTOMERS.

If i offended anybody sorry it was not my intention.

And yes i love cheese with wine my personal favorite is Bel-paese and chardonnay but you know just like personal decisions or actions towards certain situations TASTE VARIES.
Ohh and a 4 buck cup of frappucino will not boil my blood or make me complain in cyberspace but a 2600 price tag will am I crazy? Am i being irrational for thinking like this?

HEATMISER THANK YOU....yes the title is off track but dude i tried 3 times before deciding for online you know...they cant get passed the title for some reason.

If anything take it as warning DONT SETTLE FOR WHAT THEY GIVE YOU ask for a recent model they are pushing old stock period. JUST BE CAREFUL

To the OP, I agree completely you should be able to vent about your bad experience. But I do think there are two things you should keep in mind:

1) When you choose a sensational and overarching title that all 2.4 GHz MBPs are "Horrible Don't Wate Your Money", you're encouraging a more impassioned response, either defensive of the MBPs and/or Apple, or spurring other users who've had problems to complain vocally as well. MacRumors is a site for people with a strong interest in Apple and Macs. By its nature it has passionate users with strong opinions. Taking an approach like this to starting a thread is guaranteed to rile people up, whether you intended to or not.

2) Even with a less dramatic title, you're posting basically to whine and complain. While you're 100% right that the quality and service you have experienced is unacceptably sub-par, and I completely agree you have the right to be unhappy and complain, no one else has any option except to agree it sucks or tell you to take back the laptop for replacement. So don't be surprised that that's the gist of the responses you have received. After all, unless anyone on here works for your nearby Apple store, I doubt anyone here can actually do anything to help you except commiserate.

Sorry to here about your MBP 2.4...take it back!!! But there are ones that have none of these issues..I know because I own one. My MBP 2.4 has a perfect screen and I have had zero problems!!! So you might want to try an exchange and your luck might be better. I do agree that it is frustrating!!! Best of luck to you!:D

While your complaints are valid, don't come on here to spout that the macbook pro 2.4 is a waste of money because your first computer happened to be a lemon... and it's great you gave apple the benefit of the doubt, but why not just open the box in the store and check it out? Why not stop after the initial obviousness of the screen being bad and go back and return it? You didn't have to spend an hour to see that the screen was bad.

I know your complaints are valid, but spouting that all mbps are bad because of your bad experience is just plain bothersome.

Why don't you take it back and get a replacement, which they will happily give you after your problems. You can even open it in the store and make sure you get one that is all you wished for. Maybe even with leopard preinstalled, although, I think having one with tiger as the original operating system may be nice, so you could go back to it if you so wish, or stick with it for a while if you wanted to (some people like doing that).

And walla, everyone wins. :p

That cracked me up. Walla. Thats great.

To the OP I think you come across as whining because NOT ONLY IS YOUR CAPS LOCK BUTTON STUCK, but you also are going way over board. When in fact all you needed to do was go to the Apple store and say. "Hi, My name is X and I just bought this MBP and it has the yellow tint issue. I would like to exchange it. Thank You.

Instead you got all mad that you, yourself had to install Leopard. I am sure you would have been very happy knowing that Apple was installing Leopard on every machine, but come on, for realz yO.

You have a legit problem, that has been covered to death on the forums, and you discredit yourself with your whinny post.

Sorry.

because 1 bad laptop implies that every single product that apple ships is horrible.

sure :p

good luck getting it ironed out- shouldn't be too hard
