Okay here is the Problem.
Got a 3GS 32gb 3.1.2 phone that I purchased and performed a master reset:eek:. It was unlocked and jailbroken (old iboot xx936xxx) with blackra1n. I reset it in settings to erase the old data on it. Stooopid mistake!:apple:
After I reset it it would not boot. So I attempted

  • [*]BlackRa1n:

Would not boot the phone, would freeze on Geohotz image, tried this 10 times.
  • Redsn0w.

Started to load it with the 3.1.2 firmware.... loaded fine but freezes on the last step! Authenticating so does not complete. tried this 10 times, always fails
  • Saurik Activation to degrade firmware

I do not have the SHSH file on my computer or on Sauriks server.
  • Itunes shift restore
Cant get this to work because Itunes stopped signing 3.1.2!
  • Snowbreeze and IREB and Umbrella

Tried IREB but will not unloop the iphone.. Umbrella does not give me the shsh file as it was never saved...
Have not tried sn0wbreeze yet as I dont think it will help either.
In summary..
3gs old iboot that will not boot.
When it runs redsn0w its stop at this line of code:
Couldn't stat("/etc/mach_init.d"): No such file or directory
com.apple.CommCenter: Already loaded

I will paypal the first person 20 dollars that will give me a work around.
Of course this does not include upgrading the iphone to 3.1.3 in itunes. I want to preserve my baseboard and not go to 3.1.3. Also I do not have my shsh file so I cant downgrade to a lower version as apple refuses to sign them electronically.
I also tried this on 3 computer (dont have an apple available to use Pwnage)
on many usb cables and multiple versions of iTunes.. so its not my hardware.

So anyone smart enough to provide a solution!!:D
WIll also post on modmyi.com...
1st solution on these forum wins.

it is not possible for you to downgrade to 3.1.2. you can only go to 3.1.3. your baseband will be updated, and there is no way to unlock unless you can get your hands on a factory unlock carrier settings update. turn the device completely off but plug it into the computer first. hold the power and home button for exactly 10 seconds, then let go of the power button and keep holding the home button until itunes recognizes a phone in recovery mode. restore normally, without selecting your own, because you wont be able to downgrade. if the phone is bricked, it will not go into dfu the normal way, instead, hold down the power and home button for exactly 6 seconds, then release the power button but keep holding the home button, until itunes pops up saying its in recovery mode, again, you can only restore to 3.1.3. you can actually download pwnage tool 3.1.5 and that works with 3.1.3, and i think it preserves your baseband because most other versions do. so try restoring to a custom firmware that you make with pwnage tool BEFORE updating to apples unmodded 3.1.3. it will allow you to unlock if you upgrade to a custom firmware. if you update to 3.1.3 unmodded, its too late. then when you have cydia on your iphone, download blacksn0w from cydia. http://blackra1n.com is the repository where you can get blacksn0w from. all the information me and everyone else post here is voluntary and we will not accept payment. nor are we allowed to. good luck!

Clarification..
I am not on 3.1.3!
I am just boot looped in 3.1.2.
Also I do not have an Apple available right now ; cant use pwnage tool 3.1.(despite your username :D).
I can go into DFU mode just fine.
As far as payment... i didnt know it was against forum rules... but I would just be grateful to someone smarter than me.... Like most its aggravating not finding solution that you know are there... somewhere!
Also redsn0w will not allow me to load 3.1.2 custom firmware on my iphone as it freezes on authenticating. I have yet to try to use the 3.1.3 moded firmware. I do not believe there is a difference between pwnage tool 3.1. and Redsn0w is there?

Ha....
loved the post. Was a nice laugh.. But every attempt to unloop the boot failed except for going to DFU mode. The phone just wont start on its own... Likely to do with the error seen in Redsn0w on the iphone as it attempts to boot.
Couldn't stat("/etc/mach_init.d"): No such file or directory
com.apple.CommCenter: Already loaded

But hey hopefully Im missing some thing really stupid. Im all ears.. . or eyes.

On ATT
I ran Irecovery and got this...

And I still get this on the iphone when I try to reboot

If your phone has its SHSH on file, you can use saurik's solution to restore to 3.1.2 in DFU mode. If your phone is still pwned (which I don't think it can be) and you can get your iPhone into recovery mode (not DFU mode), you will be able to restore to a custom 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 firmware. If you do not have your SHSH file and you cannot get your phone into Recovery mode, you cannot do anything but restore to 3.1.3 stock. This will lock your baseband and prevent you from jailbreaking at least for the time being.

ok first of all, updating your baseband wont affect you. preserving the baseband it only for people who want to unlock. pwnage tool 3.1.5 can jailbreak iphone 3gs with old bootrom, so i suggest doing this because you dont need to worry about unlocks, and you can go on with ur life as you did before. dont upgrade to 3.1.3 stock, restore to 3.1.3 custom, that you make with pwnage tool, select the 3.1.3 firmware, you have to download it, either the internet or through itunes if you dont already have it. if u used rock or PkgBackup to backup your apps, then you can download them all again by clicking the restore button inside the app. you can setup as new, or restore from a backup. restoring from a backup will save all your data from ur apps. good luck and i hope it works out for you.

EDIT: btw, the code for iRecovery is the following

iRecovery -s

printenv

setenv auto-boot true

saveenv

reboot

and your phone should turn on if you only got stuck in recovery mode.

Well thanks for the input.
Since I dont have Pwnage tool I will try RedSn0w with the 3.1.3 modified firmware.
But I do not understand why I could not use Redsn0w with the modified 3.1.2 software and why it froze everytime on authenticating?!

im not sure if redsn0w works for the 3gs yet. but since im using a mac, ill use pwnage tool and make the firmware and send you the download link.

I believe the new version of Redsn0w does... I have 0.9.4
BTW in the process of loading VMware with MACOS on my pc to try pwnage tool :)
Anyone know?

i think thats for the iphone 2g, 3g, ipod touch 1g, and 2g non MC model. try this first, if it doesnt work, you can update and try redsn0w. if it fails you can live without jailbreaking. you did before you knew what it was or how to do it.

plug your phone in and put it in recovery mode. in itunes, click restore while holding shift, and select the firmware at the directory where you downloaded it from. i really hope this works for you.

What the hell are you guys hoping to accomplish? Unless the phone is both already Pwned and in Recovery Mode (not DFU mode) with the USB & Apple logo on the screen, a custom firmware is utterly worthless. You cannot restore to a custom firmware in DFU mode or from a boot loop.

Thanks.... youve been a huge help.
Im downloading it now.
2 questions..
How is this modded firmware different from apples?

also why can I use irecovery to fix my boot loop?!

really...so im distributing a free firmware, thats available for anyone to download, and im gonna get in trouble for it? i can give a link to a pwnage tool download and am i gonna get in trouble?

OP did you also try the iRecovery commands i gave you?

It doesn't matter if it's free or not, it's copyrighted. It is not illegal to modify it for your own use, but it is illegal to distribute it, and it is against the rules of this forum to do so here.

So with this I can install cydia and get my shsh file?
But will this upgrade my baseband?
