iPad is a very different experience than a laptop, or even a Windows tablet. It's a dumbed down OS with a ton of limitations. Apple wants to compete with windows tablets and laptops, but until they give a laptop\desktop-class OS, or at least something close to it, the iPad will always be seen as more of a toy than a tool.
HOWEVER, I will say that I think my iPad Mini 4 is my most favorite device I've used. But the only thing I really use it for is to travel with as a media player. Don't have to deal with cumbersome entertainment systems on airplanes, don't have to turn on TVs with 12 channels in hotels. Makes for the perfect hotel nightstand accessory. It's got my shows and music, and lasts for a week on a charge. I've tried the regular iPad and the iPad pro, and they always get returned after a week because I miss my iPad Mini 4. For me it's the perfect size. But if you're expecting iOS to give you anything like a desktop experience, your expectations are off. It's good for occasional use, and specific purposes (especially media consumption), but it isn't going to replace a desktop or laptop, even for occasional use.
