Since I have called two local Apple stores, two AT&T stores and 611 all with no luck I would like to see people who have gotten a refund to post how they got it, when they bought the phone and where they got the refund from. PLEASE NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS JUST REFUND POSTS. If you dont agree with refunds being offered then start a new post about that but lets keep this organized.

I will start. I bought 2 8GB iPhones on launch day from AT&T store and have called with no luck. Now lets hear from the lucky ones....:apple:

By they way I just called 611 again and got a different woman who was going to let me actually cancel my account rather than give me a credit.

Great post! I just called att, 611, and tried the "i'm a long time customer" bit and got nowhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I called the 1800myapple number, and asked to speak with a manager in the Escalations Dept. After being courteous but firm with the woman, she told me that she was unable to issue a $200 refund because I purchased it in an Apple Store instead of online. She told me to let the store manager that I spoke with Escalations and was told that they were authorized to make such a price adjustment (not sure for how long...but she said to take care of it ASAP).

I called the store, and they tried to run interference with me. When I told them about Escalations, they told me to bring in my box and receipt, and they credited my $200 back quickly.

I've had friends who tried the same thing and they were denied, though they told me they were a bit rude with the folks on the phone. So...be nice and good luck. :)

I bought a 4GB Refurb ($399.99) last week. I called Apple Customer Service yesterday. I was issued a credit of $150 without any hassle. Bringing the price of my phone to $249.99. Should show up back on my credit card within 3-5 business days.

Of course I was within the 14 day grace period for pricing. But this shows that it is possible to get a credit from apple.

When did you purchase?

The 14-dayers are having no problem at all. A friend of mine just bought a 4gb refurb last week and called today and was offered $150 back no problem. Alternatively (and the choice he decided to go with), he was told he could return his 4GB for a full refund (no restocking fee), and then he could turn around and buy an 8GB instead.

I bought two phones. 1 on day 1 from an AT&T store and one 3 weeks ago from an Apple store. I was able to get a $200 gift card from the Apple Store (kudos to the management team at the apple store in NH!) with very little convincing. I didn't even have to go in and they even sent it via overnight delivery!!

I tried calling the iPhone applecare # 1st and they appeared ready to help me until I told them I did not buy from online but from an AT&T store and an Apple store. They informed me I would have to call the retail outlets but that they are making exceptions beyond the official policy date.

I haven't tried AT&T yet but I do not have high hopes as AT&T is not exactly famous for outstanding service.

I am happy with the $200 from :apple: though :D

got a refund

I bought a refurb with a ship date of 8/23. I called Apple yesterday, and the guy I was talking to got "permission" to give me a refund because I was 3 days out of the refund period (I assume of 2 weeks since the date of purchase). So, I got $150 put back on my card. Needless to say, I'm happy with my $250 4 gig iPhone.

I called my AT&T store this morning, and said I bought my iPhone less than 30 days ago, so what can we do about a price adjustment so I don't have to return it and rebuy it elsewhere, and she said just bring in the receipt. Did it at lunchtime.

Just got back from the Apple store with a $200 credit to my AmEx card. I bought the 4g model on August 25th, called the store last night, came in this morning with the receipt and had the option of exchanging it (with a restocking fee) for an 8g (which I don't need or want, as I don't use it for music), or getting $200 back. Five minutes later I had my refund.

I got a refund on both of my 8gig phones purchased on release day. In the main thread off of front page, another user posted that they called the Lynnwood, WA store (Alderwood Mall) and they were doing credits for all buyers under orders of the store manager.

I called to verify, spoke to Ian (assistant manager, Henry is the other), then called a closer store to me (University Village in Seattle, WA). They adhered to the 14 day policy.

So I zoomed up to the Lynnwood location as I thought if only a few were going to be doing returns, either apple would do it for all or shut them down. I got up there and a regular store employee was well aware of their return policy. She returned them both (awesome!) and I was happy.

In the other threads I posted a picture of my receipt. Got a total of ~340 back, as I bought them in Portland, OR and paid no sales tax, but up here they did a refund and reapply, so I bought the iPhone for 399 plus tax. I was just happy to get the money, so I didn't make it an issue.

Interestingly, on my receipt it says that the warranty for the product has been reset as well. Says it will end in Sept. 08. I believe this is because they resold me a phone, not just a credit.

Good luck and if a copy of my receipt will help sway other apple stores, great.

Now this being said I am happy with the outcome (obviously), but I don't know how far I would have pushed it. I did buy it at 600, but have a sour attitude about the price lowering. I was fluctuating between saying its my fault and then being mad at apple. However, if a store wants to return my money, I would gladly do it.

Good luck.

Got a refund in the form of a $200 credit from AT&T. Works for me.

A little more info please? Did you get it from an AT&T store? Did they tell you if it was going to be a nationwide policy or just at that store? Did you call the store directly or did you call general AT&T support?

I called my closest store and got a firm 14-day policy. I pressed to see if there would be any exceptions, and they said no. It's like 45-60 minutes away, so not really worth trying to press it in person, and certainly isn't worth getting worked up. I might try just writing a letter and leave it at that.

I think it would be helpful if those posting stated where they bought it, when they bought it, and where/how they got credit. It seems if you bought it two weeks ago, you're good.

I put it to them this way (but nicely)

They could either give me a $200 credit on my bill and I would buy a second iPhone for my 2nd line;
OR
I would cancel the 2 lines of service I had with them (no ETF on either of them due to a seperate issue).

So they stood to make about $2800 between the 2 lines over the next 2 years; or they would get nothing. They made the right move and ate the $200.

Progress with Apple

Bought my 8gb at AT&T on July 7. Emailed the salesperson, no luck. Called AT&T and KEPT HIM ON THE PHONE AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. He said he has a few options and will call me back tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath.

So I called Apple last night and vented. "Nothing we can do." I called them again today (1-800-my-iphone) and talked very calmly about the 4 macs I've bought in the last 3 years, the 6 ipods I've bought for myself or as gifts, my recent purchase of iWork and iLife and my pending renewal of my .mac account. I kept him on the phone and kept repeating "there must be something you can do to alleviate this sick feeling I have about your company today. I feel stupid. My friends are laughing at me. Help me out."

After a long time on hold so he could "talk to his manager," he called up my previous orders and started tossing out offers: some coupons? any accessories? need anything for your mac? no. no. no.

"But those Shuffles look pretty cool. How about a pair of shuffles?"

After another 5 minutes on hold, he got the deal "approved." So my daughters will each get an expensive stocking stuffer this xmas.

This wasn't about the money. This was about value and customer service. So I'll get two Shuffles that I might not have bought -- So I'm still out the money. But I got value and -- though it sounds lame -- recognition from Apple that they did something that requires a good-faith attempt to make this right.

Keep them on the phone and ask them for help. That's my best advice.

Well, I may get lucky in this whole thing. I bought my 4GB iphone on July 21st so I'm out of the 14 day return policy. But when I bought it and turned it on....I noticed a dead pixel. Whatever...it's in a spot on the screen where I don't notice so whatever. But I'm thinking now....they pull this **** and I have a pretty good reason to go back and sort this out. What do you think?

I purchased two 8g iPhones on August 9th from Apple's online store. I called Apple yesterday (I selected the "Check status on your order" queue). I, very politely, explained to the rep my frustration at the price dropping $200 within a month of purchase. He looked up my orders and said I was within their price protection policy and refunded $200 on each order.

I called completely on a lark and was downright shocked that a.) they'd give me a refund and b.) how easy it was.

I think you'll be able to exchange it. I'd take another route if you're looking for a refund.

Ditto. Called AT&T about an hour ago and the rep very kindly issued me a $200 service credit, which translates into almost 3 months of service for free. So I am *very* happy with AT&T right now, especially since they had nothing to do with what happened yesterday.

But I am still super-pissed at Apple.

bought mine iDay, phoned at&t (611) yesterday, and got $200 credit to my bill.:D:D:D

Not me. Just got off the phone with AT&T. Reminded them of how long I've been a customer. Told them how disappointed I was that they were treating their customers this way; especially those who waited in line. I guess I'll be officially disputing the charge via my credit card now.
