And here is how I did it years ago, I'm sure there is probably better ways by now. LOL!

I got mine running Windows 10 by installing Win10 first on another computer and swapping the SSD into the MacPro, I'm pretty sure. Not exactly the ideal install method but I must try it again. Mine is currently running El Capitan but I'll probably nuke that once browser support ends. It's mainly used as a backup machine now anyway.

Still a shame there's no way of upgrading these old workhorses past El Cap.

Well, I do know that the room stays cooler now that the old MacPro is pretty much retired. It was last in regular use 2 years ago when my son was using it as his windows gaming machine. My electric bill has gone down too I believe.
I upgraded it as far as it would go, but the time comes for all things. Still runs great by the way!

When you say "..on another computer" you mean another Mac. Right?

Nope, a Windows machine. As hwojtek said, I believe I got to the phase of the install that requires the first reboot - powered the machine off, popped the drive into the MacPro and booted up and went from there. I also own an Intel-based PC so I'm pretty sure I used that - it's been a while, but when I have access to my 1,1 (after the lockdown period is over) I'll give it another shot.
