Hello,
thank you so much for the response. Don't worry about your support if I have problems I post a post and see what I responded to.
In this moment, I am doing a installation on a separate drive, because, so, if I have problems I can, however, start with the old operating system, the only intervention should be to change the graphics card, but for that it takes ten minutes I don't think more.
In this moment I'm creating the USB and just finished I do the installation immediately and boot from my Macbook Pro so much to understand whether it works or not.
Then when tomorrow should get the graphics card do all the operations of the case.
Will update as soon as I have news.
[doublepost=1482930577][/doublepost]Hello,
I am surprised, very surprised.
After you have downloaded the DMG change, I made the installation on the external drive and I also booted.
SURPRISE...it also works with the tab 7300. There is a reason for this ? At this point, I just install the card and it should work.
Insert the images.

There are problems with the rendering, because on 10.7.5 memory of the graphics card is equivalent to 256MB while on 10.10 instead recognizes 7 MB :eek::eek:, but I think I can work with no particular problems.

Correct ?
Thanks,
Vincenzo
I think this one of the issues with graphics cards that are not supported - there are other posts I think with similar reports of much lower RAM and probably no graphics acceleration either. I assume you don't get a boot screen either?
Have you installed Pike Yosefix and updated to the latest version of Yosemite?

There are quite a few graphics cards available that show boot screens - some quite cheap if you don't want to spend too much.

Hello,
I installed the video card 4870 and everything works.
initially I thought that the start screen is not seen, and instead I can see the progressive bar load.
I've done several tests during the day yesterday and I have not encountered any kind of problem at least for the moment, even doing the stress test on the graphics card, worked without problems.
Now the only thing I have to do is figure out how can I install the operating system update 10.10.5 with the hope that it continues to work.

please delete

Sorry...why i delete post ?

Install PikeYoseFix - it is found on Page 1 of this thread and you should be able to update through the Mac App Store without breaking anything. This script protects the boot.efi files which is what the update can otherwise break. Read the instructions on how to install and about rebooting.

Or this... 1

Page 1 is updated as things change in the development of this so is a good first call. Hope it all works OK.
By 'Search' I meant there is a search facility on the forums to just search on this thread - I wasn't suggesting you try to read all the pages - although it is helpful information.

Hello,
I thank you for the information. Now everything works fine, I just have to buy some RAM because 6 GB and I think 16 GB is better, although I would like to install 32GB.

I also went well, I installed on an external drive "El Capitan", but I always get Kernel Panic, but that's another story :)

I know that there is a "Search" function, but unfortunately I do not speak English very well and so I preferred to read the pages so you can do a little 'knowledge of the language.

The extra Ram is worth buying and quite cheap. There is another thread similar to this on installing El Capitan - these links may help #1390 #1391 - you will need to remove any 512mb RAM modules as they cause issues and have at least 12gb RAM installed. There is an installer creator that works well as the install procedure is slightly different to Yosemite. Good luck.

Hello, I think of buying more RAM was thinking of buying directly to 16 GB of RAM and then rehearse with the installed RAM.
Let's say that it is not essential El Capitan, Yosemite may be fine with more RAM.
Thanks for the support

Well done Vincenzo! You are well on the way to getting a still useful system that does not cost too much...
I shopped around for old DDR2 server RAM (non-Apple) and kept testing what worked and what did not. I now have 16Gb that actually cost me nothing, as I got it out of old servers that were being thrown away. Not every RAM stick works, however, and I am lucky that I have two Mac Pro machines so I can easily test it one stick at a time.

Hello!
I installed OSX El Capitan on my MacPro 2006 (upgraded to 2.1), using the target disk method. And it works great, so thanks!
But clones (backup disks) don't boot! I have used two methods to clone the booting disk (Carbon Copy Cloner / Super Duper) on SSD and regular hard drives, and none of them was able to boot.
On Yosemite, this method (Super Duper) worked perfectly. Clones were able to boot and I could clone source disk to target disk and the other way round without any issue.
So do you know, guys, any solution to this? Is it because of the SIP? I don't dare to deactivate this because, well, I don't have any working backup disk...

I apologize for a stupid question, but if you press the ALT key during start-up of the Mac Pro, you can see the startup disk ?

Ok, sorry then I can not help you because even I, with El Capitan I have the same problem, only that the problem for me occurs, I do the download part Combo but you start in an optimal manner, I think that it is a problem of my RAM

Hey,
I'm about to install Yosemite w/ Piker-Alpha macosxbootloader downloaded from the Mega link posted here on a MacPro 1,1 which I've been modified earlier (now it's a MacPro 2,2 2x3GHz Quad-Core (Intel X5365), 6GB RAM, OSX10.9.5) and has an AMD Sapphire Radeon HD6870 1GB graphic card in it which is unsupported by Apple, has no flashed ROM - so I can only see the screen on login window.
Does it make the installation possible? On booting from the installer usb I'll not have the screen, right?
Thanks!

U.K.
Pulling other drives helps to reduce the possible options of getting the wrong boot drive too.
You can try holding the C key immediately after the chime. If you are using a USB memory stick as the installer, the MacPro usually treats it as a CD/DVD, holding the C key forces the boot process to use it.

Thanks for the info, it went well (i found the "->, ->, ->, ->, -> endlessly then hit enter" method good enough :) ) then the second screen showed up no problem.

After running PikeYoseFix script I restarted twice as stated then I tried to update to 10.10.5 but on restarting booting sequence stucked and keep ticking and spinning the hard drive. So I needed to start over the whole procedure (for the record: holding C on boot helps to start the installer from the usb, thanks rthpjm!) and now I'm not sure about updating.

If the update has replaced one or both of the boot.efi files (pikeyosfix may not have worked as expected for some reason), then all you need to do is overwrite the two files with the Pike versions again.

Connect your MacPro to your other machine via Target Disk mode.
Navigate to /Volumes/yourMacProDiskName/usr/standalone/i386
I think pikeyosfix keeps a copy of the Pike boot.efi file here alongside the operating system copy.
Check the file sizes.
Code:
cd /Volumes/yourMacProDiskName/usr/standalone/i386
ls -lh *boot* ../../../System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi

The Pike versions of boot.efi should be just over 300k, the Apple versions are usually bigger (I haven't used Yosemite for a long time, but the El Capitan ones are around 600k)

If the boot.efi file sizes don't match the Pike version size, replace them.

Disconnect, and then reboot the MacPro

Unfortunately, I don't have another machine to connect via Target Disk mode.
Is it a possible way to letting it update to 10.10.5 then on restart I'd use the usb drive to boot and checking/replacing the boot.efis from a terminal window in the installer?

Yes. Try booting from either the Recovery HD, or your memory stick. You should be able to start a terminal from the Utilities or Tools menu
