I was going to write about the clone way but somebody already did.
I have the public early release beta and it needed a special number to download.
I am not sure if it will work on more than one install but I will give it a shot

It should be in your purchase history. No need for another code.

This wifi issue is killing me. I have tried kext update with IO80211Family but still it can't seem to find any networks. I'm thinking it's because of the MacPro2,1 airport card being a/b/g.

LZVN does seem to work now. Boots faster. One weird thing: no sound in speakers. With mikeboss version posted few pages before, it wasn't working too. All looks fine in System Prefs, volume increases/decreases but nothing can be heard through speakers. This could be something with my install: just took hdd from 5,1 with incrementally updated DP1->GM RC1 and put it in 2,1.

When I reebot in Mavs sound works fine, so it's not the HW issue certainly.

For those who are interested in testing, see Post #572 for a current version of the Boot.efi.

Please DO NOT QUOTE the download-link because this is only a test version and will be removed later on.

What sources version did you use in this updated one?

I compiled one today morning using 14:35 files with added CsPrintf and mine is different than your when compared in a hex editor.

I've used the current source version. The difference could result from the compiling either in Debug mode or in Release mode.

Interestingly Tiamo's Boot.efi is compiled in Debug mode. When I compile his source I get the same size (461.312 bytes), but the MD5 checksum is not the same. The compiled file in Release mode is smaller.

2006/2007 Mac Pro (1,1/2,1) and OS X Yosemite

Maybe you could make a new Guide from yours in Post #227, now with Boot.efi - especially how to patch the Yosemite-Installer in general (for all older Macs) ....

I can definitely work on a new guide and I'll test the installer. I have a good working installer image for Mavericks that has been modified with Tiamos boot.efi and the proper board ids. I'm sure it is the same process.

This entire time I've tried to keep the first post of this thread up-to-date with the latest information to be a quick summary for new readers.

If there are any other FAQs or into that should be added, let me know and I'll update the first post to be a quick one-stop set of answers.

Where can the necessary Kernel file be extracted from the App-Store-Installer ?

It's in the InstallESD.dmg -> Packages -> Essentials.pkg -> /System/Library/Kernels/kernel .

Guys I'm so excited to get Yosemite running on my 1,1. I figured someone would figure it out, but I was hoping for new years at the earliest. Thank you so much for working on this! :)

The Yosemite compatible Boot.efi basically works now.

The next question is: how (rather where) to extract the necessary Kernel from the App-Store-Installer ?

The Yosemite "mach kernel" is now named simply "kernel" and is located in the following folders/path System/Library/Kernels/kernel. A few months ago, I was assisting the developer of the .app "Pacifist" while alerting him of the fact that as of Yosemite DP2, Pacifist was unable to perform many various task in locating and extracting/installing files. I provided him a list of these specific task and he has since made Pacifist compatible with Yosemite. You can now use Pacifist to extract the "kernel" to your Yosemite Install image.

I must report however that in compiling a Yosemite installer from the initial Yosemite Public Beta full disk image release (I do not possess the full disk image of the newest Yosemite GM 1.0) and replacing the appropriate boot.efi files (the latest ones from your provided link earlier today), the installer will not boot.

Well, that was easier than I expected...

I had an SSD that I had not updated past DP6 - on a whim I grabbed the boot.efi from post #572, and just deleted the DP6 boot.efi and replaced it.

Honestly I didn't expect it to be that simple, it booted right up...

**EDIT***

This is a note for the less tech savy (like myself) that are messing with this stuff - I upgraded all the way to PB8 just replacing the boot.efi, then selecting Yosemite as the startup disk. Shutting down, then still using my option key to make sure it booted off the correct partition. BUT THEN, the one thing that almost threw me off was once I updated to the GM version, the boot.efi became an invisible file. Luckily I thought of this, I just used spotlight to search for invisible files on my Yosemite partition. Poof, there it was. Delete, replace, select startup disk, shut down, reboot, "option" boot to my Yosemite partition and DONE.

This is not true for PB4.

I've extracted the PB4-Kernel with Pacifist 3.2.14 from InstallESD.dmg -> Packages -> Essentials.pkg -> /System/Library/Kernels/kernel .

I've patched the Installer manually (according to the Guide in Post #227):

- restored the BaseSystem.dmg with Disk Utility
- replaced the Alias in /System/Installation/ with the Packages folder from InstallESD.dmg
- edited the Board-ID in /System/Installation/Packages/InstallableMachines.plist
- edited the Board-ID and the Mac Model in /System/Library/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist
- added the Board-ID in /System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg
- copied BaseSystem.dmg and BaseSystem.chunklist into the root folder of the Installer partition (or USB-Flashdrive)
- added the Kernel to /System/Library/Kernels/
- replaced the Boot.efi in /System/Library/CoreServices/ as well as /usr/standalone/i386 with the new one.

The PB4-Installer boots fine on my MBP2,2 (late 2006, EFI32).

This is not true for PB3.

I've just extracted the PB3-Kernel with Pacifist 3.2.14 from InstallESD.dmg -> Packages -> Essentials.pkg -> /System/Library/Kernels/kernel .

- restored the BaseSystem.dmg with Disk Utility

The PB3-Installer boots fine on my MBP2,2 (late 2006, EFI32).

Interesting...Just to be thorough I replaced the patched boot.efi with the "stock" boot.efi files located in the Yosemite Public Beta .app and Clover booted the same image with that being the only difference just fine.

Unfortunately since I redeemed my public beta code when downloading the initial release, I apparently have no ability to access later releases. When attempting to do so, I was told my redemption code cannot be used again.

Used the newer boot.efi provided by atvusr and it booted up just fine as well.

Amazing work everyone.

As soon as the final GM Comes up, can't wait to build a USB key.

Mac Pro 1,1 vs Mac Pro 6,1

I am attaching these 2 images as the answer to:

"Why bother with these ancient machines?"

(I realize this may be an imperfect comparison of performance for a wide variety of technical reasons - However seeing my old Mac Pro 1,1 clock in only about 20% slower on ANY benchmark compared to a $3000 state of the art machine means something.)

Thank you guys who are doing the heavy lifting getting this working so well!

Completely Agree.

Picked up one for $150 on eBay and spent about $400 upgrading it.

For less than a Mac Mini I have a computer more than 50% faster with upgradable ram to 32GB and Any Graphics Card I want. That price also includes a SSD. It can't be beat.

It is a perfect secondary for my 2009 Mac Pro.

Have a look at the 'Purchases' tab in the App-Store. The PB4 should be already there. More posts about the Redemption Code can be found in this Yosemite-Thread.

PS. I think we might have established this already however your graphics in that MBP 2,2…is it Intel X3100 or ATI X1600 ?
