I take it you are checking the board in Yosemite. If you were to check with something like Snow Leopard or Lion (and possibly Mountain Lion as well), the Bluetooth part would never be recognised, since there are no kexts for the new hardware.

Yessir. Yosemite. Otherwise no reason to change.

Not sure how to fix it besides reinstalling the OS but here is what you need to search for on Google and then do some reading:

"launchd init kernel panic" (without the quotes)

i can't make the boot usb thumb , dont know why it isn't working. i get stuck after the apple logo disappear.

I only get a gray screen at that point then noting.

Upgrade from previous OS or clean install?

Can Yosemite be upgraded from as far back as 10.7? Or does it have to be a clean install? My Mac Pro 1,1 is configured with lots of software. A clean install would result in days of reinstalling software.

thanks

Hello all -

I'm having an issue with my Xserve 1,1.

It's running OS X Yosemite via Piker-Alpha's boot.efi, however, every time I boot with a PC graphics card inserted into a PCIe slot for graphics acceleration, the boot fails. With my Geforce 405, the Xserve just reboots itself. With my Radeon 6450, the boot hangs right around [PCI Configuration Begin].

The weird part is, WITHOUT the graphics card installed, it's FINE. And even weirder, it will boot a Leopard install (obviously no drivers for the 6450 or 405 in that system) WITH the cards installed. Very strange. Anyone else having this experience?

Exact same problem only im trying with Mavericks 10.9.5 and a PC-non flashed geforce 9500 GT. I installed mavericks by plugging the drive into a supported mac mini, updated to 10.9.5, installed nvidia drivers, replaced both boot.efi's, put the drive back in the xserve and it gets to pci configuration begin and then reboots. I also have lion 10.7.5 installed on this machine and it works fine with the card. I've spent the past hour reading this thread and searching google and thus far have not been able to find any ideas on how to fix this.

Hi all,

Sorry to insist but I need 5 posts to be able to send a private message to Peloche ;)

Could you tell me what's wrong with the message :

"OS X Yosemite is already installed on this Mac."

Thanks !

To be quite honest, I gave up. I downgraded the Xserve to 10.7.5 and have been using that.

Tried:
"-v npci=0x3000"
"-v npci=0x2000"
"-v npci=0x1000"?

Installed gtx 660 and Mac Pro died

Thanks for all the information in getting Yosemite installed on the Mac Pro.

I wanted to see if anyone can shed some light on this issue.

I had Yosemite running fine (SFOTT method plus copying kernel) on my Mac Pro 2,1. My Mac had the ATI Radeon X1900 XT in it and it obviously ran very clunky under Yosemite but it did run just fine, besides the video issues.

I received a brand new geforce gtx 660 (pc version). I installed that and it booted up the login screen just fine. Logged in and off I went with smooth graphics. I checked the "About this Mac" window and it recognized my card no problem.

Here is when it fell apart.

I thought it would be good to reset the PRAM. I rebooted, reset the PRAM and then now all I get is a black screen. No login window, nothing. I can't boot to USB either. I even put my old card back in and still nothing. I get the chime but then just black screen.

Any help is very much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I did want to clarify that I know there is no boot screen with the PC version of this card. What I am getting is a totally black screen even with my old card now back in the machine. I'll continue tinkering and see what else I can make happen.

The SSDT file for Clover and the Mac Pro works great. It enables the onboard SATA ports if you have anything connected to them like a bluray drive.

If you need help with Clover message me. I used it on my Mac Pro and use it now on both of my Hackintoshes.

Thanks! I'll PM you when I've finished my current project in a few weeks.

Hmm, I've experimented with a Fusion Drive without any results, so to speak. I built the drive on Mavericks, but it won't boot from it. Any reason why?

Tried to update my MacPro that was using Tiamo's boot.fi to boot a custom Fusion drive. It was a failure.

The Apple logo shows up, than a blinking folder with a question mark.

Will try to rebuild the fusion drive from the installer..

Same issue for me.

Lots of Kernel panic lately

Anyone have any idea of what those Kernel panic means?

my suspicion is that you have locked your drive (filevault2) and your system can't unlock it. try booting into the repair volume (can't remember what fancy name it has) and then unlocking it.

Nope, made the drive in Mavericks, no FileVault, installed fine. Then on the option menu it would show two 'Macintosh HD's

Had some questions and realized that maybe we could do something to help.

Mac Pro 1,1 and 2,1 are insanely fortunate in that using Pike's/Tiamo/Hennesie boot.efi only requires a new GPU and you have full compliance. Switching out the WiFi AC /BT 4.0 card makes for a machine that runs like a 2014 Mac. The 2006 -2008 Mini's, MBP, MBA, etc are stuck with ancient GPUs that can't really run with the big boys.

Anyhow, the crucial piece is the GPU. I have seen many posts where people are using 700GTs for boot screens. We at MVC would like to offer some help.

We will be stocking up on low cost Dual DVI GT120 cards for EFI32 machines. Boot screens and basic useable machine. Real 3D acceleration, unlike my Mini with a GMA950, forever mired in the past.

We will soon be offering a MacRumors only discount for readers of this thread. Other people offer similar cards, but they all came from us.

BTW, I would still recommend that a AMD 7950/70 or R9 280X as they offer boot screens and much more powerful graphics. And the more technically oriented can flash these themselves.

Where do I find the promo code for the discount, or do i need to contact them directly?

I got mine to work

Same issue for me.

I followed these instructions to the letter to create and format the Fusion drive.

http://www.macworld.com/article/2014011/how-to-make-your-own-fusion-drive.html

I originally had a 250 GB HDD volume in my Mac Pro. I bought and installed a 128 GB SSD and a 1 TB HHD. I then followed the instructions in the link above to create and format the new Fusion volume. Lastly, I downloaded Carbon Copy Cloner and used it to clone the original 250 GB drive to the new Fusion volume. Changed startup disk to the new Fusion drive and rebooted. Worked like a charm. Also, it is important to note that support for Fusion volumes didn't come out until OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion, so you MUST be running that, or a newer release for OS X. I kept the original 250 GB volume as an emergency boot disk, in case the Fusion drive failed. So far I have had no problems what so ever.

Thank you

This method for running Yosemite on my MacPro1,1 has worked well for me so for. I was able to survive the first update to 10.10.1. I was wondering though if the 10.10.2 update might break the boot.efi.

Please see MacRumors, January 26, 2015 --
"Apple is readying a fix in OS X 10.10.2 for the so-called "Thunderstrike" hardware exploit targeting Macs equipped with Thunderbolt ports, iMore has learned. According to the report, Apple patched the vulnerability by making code changes in the upcoming software update that prevent a Mac's bootrom from being replaced or rolled back to a previous state in which it could be attacked."

If you install the update patch from this thread you can update without issue. 10.10.2 does over write the boot.efi file.

Macbook pro 2,2 i have a older great working macbook i downloaded the image with the modified boo.efi the machine will boot fine from the usb then then will go to the circle with a slash that i believe is because it still finds the system not compatable. what should i change in the boot efi or replace the one in the usb with another? thanks
