Macbook pro 2,2 i have a older great working macbook i downloaded the image with the modified boo.efi the machine will boot fine from the usb then then will go to the circle with a slash that i believe is because it still finds the system not compatable. what should i change in the boot efi or replace the one in the usb with another? thanks

If it is the image that I made, it is likely because that modified installer was only modified for a Mac Pro 1,1 and 2,1. I did not include any of the board IDs for anything else.

10.10.2 update

First, I'd like to thank everyone for this thread!

I've been able to take a 1,1 Mac Pro and upgrade the CPUs (to x5365s), graphics to ATi 5770, Wireless AC/BT 4.0 and have been successfully running Yosemite. :)

I installed tobyg's pkg from Hennesie2000's post #1584 and followed the original instructions. It's been working perfectly so far. I noticed the new pkg from 666sheep, post #2166, and checked the files/launch daemons in the pkg using pacifist. They appear pretty much the same besides the filenames for the different boot.efi files.

Am I missing anything or I should update something (boot.efi/pkg script/etc...) before attempting to apply 10.10.2 from the App Store?

Thanks all!

You don't need to update the script.

ok i have modified the 2 files and downloaded xcode so i can modify the package by adding the board id line two all 3 correct.
thanks

10.10.2 Update Problem

So, going off the reports of several users here (or perhaps I just misread), I attempted to install the 10.10.2 update directly from the app store without any preliminary actions. The result was that the Yosemite drive won't boot.

Fortunately, I have an old backup drive with Mavericks installed, so it defaulted to and and booted from that drive. I assumed it would then simply be a matter of replacing the boot.efi file in the two locations with the modded file. I am using the one from grey.zip. (Incidentally, the boot.efi files were of different size, so the 10.10.2 installer definitely replaced them.) I did this, but my Mac Pro still won't boot into the Yosemite drive when asked, and keeps defaulting to the old Mavericks drive.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Thanks.

Set the startup disk using system preferences to the Yosemite drive. Then shutdown. Pull the Mavericks drive and boot up. See if it will then go to the Yosemite drive. Also if you happen to have a Maxwell based NVIDIA GPU then it won't boot because the NVIDIA drivers don't work for 10.10.2. That is what happened on my hackintosh with a GTX 970. Have to try the beta drivers or revert back to 10.10.1 until they update the drivers.

Thanks for the suggestion. It didn't work, and I've had to reattach the Mavericks drive and am once again booted there.

I do indeed have an NVIDIA GeoForce GTX 570 video card installed. Does this qualify as one of the currently unsupported?

Where might I try beta drivers for the video card? Better still, how ever would I roll back to 10.10.1 if I can't access the Yosemite drive?

Finally, I do have an old ATI X1900XT kicking around but, if memory serves, this won't work at all in either Mavericks of Yosemite.

The GTX 570 should be fine booting with Apples default driver. The Maxwell cards are the 750ti, 960, 970 and 980.

Hmm...what could be the issue, then? So far, this hack for my Mac pro has been flawless.

I've replaced the boot.efi files twice now, trying both the original grey.zip file, and the file contained in PikeYoseFix.pkg. I extracted it and the plist with Pacifist, and simply followed along manually entering the instructions for file copying and renaming.

At a loss what to try next...

I still have my modded Yosemite install files on an external HD. Is it safe to try to reinstall 10.0 over my failed 10.10.2?

i am trying to use flat package editor for the osinstall.mpkg cannot find

Step 4a: Move the OS X installer downloaded during step 1 to a simple location (such as the desktop). Inside the OSX installer contents is a folder called “Packages”. Copy the OSInstall.mpkg to your desktop. Note: Make sure you copy the .mpkg, not the .pkg
Step 4b: Open OSInstall.mpkg with Flat package editor and drag the “Distribution” file to your desktop.
Step 4c: Navigate the contents of the installer to System/Library/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist and copy that plist to the desktop.

any ideas?

You have to install it. If you open the guide in the first post there are instructions on where to get it.

ok so i have added my board id to the osinstall mpkg and the other 2 files but i must be missing something as i still get the slashed circle after the appe logo and status loading bar

White Screen on Install of Yosemite

Team,

I could use your help. I've got a Mac Pro 2,1. I've upgraded the processors and the video card - ATI Radeon HD 5770 as well as the memory to 16 GB. I was able to use SFOTT to get to Mavericks. Today I tried to use the Pike method to install Yosemite. When I boot from USB, it gets about 25% complete and then the screen goes white.

When I tried verbose mode install it showed "Still waiting for root device"

Any ideas?

Try a different USB drive
