fake fake fake.... Video of the Mac Pro spinning or it didn't happen!

Just kidding. Congrats! I only wish I could afford this...

And there's a reason if you've ever needed one that Apple should have stuck with the black box for the Mac Pro!

More pics as my eye-fi uploads them to flickr. In the meantime...

QUESTIONS ANSWERED:

- The optical drives are SATA
- Stock optical drive is an "H-L Data Storage GH41N"
- The optical drive connectors are single-piece SAS-style with power & signal
- The backplane for the 4 hot-swap bays is the MAINBOARD. There is no separate backplane. There is no cable between the mainboard and the backplane because the mainboard IS the backplane. The drive connectors are directly on the mainboard.
- There are only 2 SATA ports remaining and they lead to the optical drive bay. if you use only one optical drive, you could connect the second port to an eSATA adapter but the port is at the very front of the case so you'll need at least an 18" cable.

yours could be the first real benchmarks published for early2009 macpro

the world's waiting for you:eek:

Standing by with my 8 core 3.2Ghz 2008 Mac Pro if you want to do some benchmarking.

Yeeeeeah! Buddy!!! That's the candy shot right there:

Dust Bunnies Be Gone!
Bad Dust Bunnies!
Bad! Bad!

benchmarks and youll probably be on the front page of every single tech blog out there :D

do some photoshop tests plzzz!!!

Nice!

Boy, ATI really makes monster sized video cards don't they? Would have been neat if there was a Apple cooler on it like the OEM 3870, it looked cool (in both senses, heh).

And there's a reason if you've ever needed one that Apple should have stuck with the black box for the Mac Pro!
I dunno, my '06 MP box arrived in similar condition, the scuff marks were almost as bad. Though the black box was nicer looking and fitting with the whole "Pro" thing.

And there's a reason if you've ever needed one that Apple should have stuck with the black box for the Mac Pro!

agreed. it's a beautiful machine, but the box just looks dirty - they should have stuck with the black box.

"The new Mac Pro, dirty on the outside, beauty on the inside"

congratulations - I'm (and I'm sure many are) jealous :)

Yeah, lets see some Real-World benchmarks.

Geekbench is neat and all, but...

well at least GB is easy to launch and fast to have some data + you can see brute force on the processor and memory :)
(fyi i don't care about the big number on top, I care about all the information below... and it is accurate for that)

Below: The two SATA ports that connect to the optical drive bay (right behind the front bezel). You can also see the hot-swap connector for Drive 1 at the top of this photo:

Below: Sorry for the blur on this one, I'd have to wait to upload if I reshoot. these are the 2 PCI-e 6-pin power connectors for the Radeon:

Below: PCI-e slots. Note the hot-swap drive connectors directly on the motherboard at the top of this area.
