I thought the Mac Pros with the 4870 cards were not going to be released until 3-4 weeks?

No? That's RAM.

When I still had an order for mine, it was to ship this week. I had the 4870 and a GT 120.

Geekbench 17627 (1 run only)

I'm not familiar with GeekBench so I don't know how that score compares or if there is anything I should be doing to prevent the system from running things in the background during the test, etc.

THAT'S FASTER THAN THE SUN SCORE. You've just topped the charts.

Great photos!
It looks like a pretty massive redesign internally over previous Mac Pros - love that removable CPU/Ram tray :)

Below: CPU/RAM tray removed, from above:
That's the shot I wanted. :D So yeah, on the quad-core model I guess this would be missing one of the CPU boxes and the 4 RAM slots on that side wouldn't work?

It's not taxing at all, is what I'm saying. :p

Give it something it has to strain to do. Like Crysis. Then we'll see how loud the fans get.
With the latest expansion, actually, it is taxing. But I digress, Crysis is a better idea anyway.

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!!!

wow, the new nehalems are super beast in terms of raw processing power!

can you also xbench your system?

Holy crap that 2.93GHz Nehalem is amazing.

Record breaker right there.

Imagine what some overclocking can do along with lower latency ram.

Bumped slightly to 17665 in subsequent run (just so you don't think somebody else just bumped me :))

^^ homeboy is right because mine runs around 9k each time.

But now real-world testing is where it counts.
GB is just a score for ... well people like us.

Does anyone know how many 4870's it will take? I need 3 cards. Is the GT120 my only option.?

Bootcamp on software Raid Array

Guys -

Do you suppose with the lack of legacy IDE ports on the 2009 Mac Pro that the EFI BIOS emulation will allow the SATA controller to remain in AHCI mode and support software RAID for Bootcamp?

I am dying to put my 2 Intel X25-M's as a software raid 0 array and be able to partition the array with OSX and Windows....

Can someone try??

Thanks!
Aaron

O M F G
That score is absolutely amazing and really does show the power of the new Mac Pros. My 2 1/2 year old 2Ghz Mac Pro pales into complete insignificance against that beast of a machine (I get a score of less than 4,000!!) :D
