I still cant find a 2.66ghz 8 core nehalem benchmarks.

Yeah, so far there's only three 2009 machine submissions.

2.93 Octad
2.66 Quad
2.26 Octad

PS:
What do you guys think, should the font be bigger or less bold or something?

Also should we make a cut-off speed rule so that this list doesn't get too huge with G2 and 680X0 entries? So far the lowest green bar is just a tad over 2K. What about a 2K green bar requirement to get on the list? Or should I just add everything and let it get weird?

.

I'm so curious how the 2.66 Octad compares to the 2.93ghz, I wonder why there are no benchmarks regarding it..

Are people simply ordering either the 2.26ghz model or the 2.93ghz and skipping the midrange 2.66ghz??

Looking at these scores, I'm beginning to think I may have to bust up to the 2.66 Octa-core. The single threading on the 2.26 Octa-core is disturbingly low.

Or look for a 2008 2.8...

Or wait...

I would put my finger on a 2.66ghz octad...

I'm going to sign up for the student adc to get the 20% discount and MIGHT go with 2.93ghz (you get the discount once in your life after all) but leaning more towards the 2.66ghz.. but I need to see the benchmarks!! Where are the 2.66ghz benches!!??

Just a guess, but the single threading would probably be on a par with the 2009 2.66 Quad, perhaps slightly better; and the multi-threading up above the 2008 3.2.

I'd definitely like to see some scores too.

The machine on the list that says (Upgraded) is mine BTW. :) When Apple make a machine that says >6K on the green bar and >32K on the yellow bar, that's when I'm going to buy! I guess I would settle for 4K and 48K (the 12 core). Hehehe.. :D

Yeeeeeaaaahhh!! LETS GET WEIRD! :D

Yea, if anything the 2.66ghz might be the middle ground, "value" deal.

The Cinebench results are quite interesting (thanks all) but it is shocking to see that a simple $600 hackintosh, with entry level Intel Q9300 Quad Core processor is doing a staggering: 3719/12870/346 Especially when you look at the insane low price tag.

Note: I'm the chief editor of a certain Mac magazine and we've setup this hackintosh for editorial research only!!!

I dunno... the 2008 3.0 is slower than the 2009 2.66

The new procs are all showing faster single core speeds.

Looking to Buy Mac Pro soon to use with Logic Pro8 for Audio.

Does anyone know what Brand Manufacture firewire chipset is in the new Mac Pro 2009. I been reading on the history of these threads in forums about the problems with the type of chipsets and from what i get from all of this is that TI (Texas Instruments) is the most reliable chipset out there. If anyone here does know please post and if you do not know use the 'APPLE+S' command while booting up it shows the firewire type. Thanks

Tesselator, how are you ordering the list top to bottom? Also, this may get too confusing visually, but it might be interesting to see the base price of each model.

i think windows drivers suffer from that syndrome more than os x... :)

Damn... can't believe that no one got a Quad 2,93 already

who would want that :D you are better off with refurbed 3.2 last gen. single core performance is a bit slower, but multicore twice as much + no ram limits

So where are the pics of the 4870?

Does it have a spot to plug in a crossfire cable or not?

When you doing the ROM dump?

Wait until Snow Leopard comes out with QT-X then transcode a HD video and the 2.26 will increase performance dramatically.;)

That's why I got the 2.26. I know what Apple's gonna do with this newer technology. One of the advantages of being an ADC member. hehe
And this is why I will be waiting for Snow Leopard and all the updated apps (iLife, FC Express) before buying this beast. Waiting is going to save me hundreds of €. End of this year: Mac Pro & MacNetBook.

Apple, if this technology requires updated software to shine, give current buyers a cheap way to upgrade....

It will be an interesting upgrade from my current desktop (500MHz G4 Cube with 3rd party graphics card). To be honest: I am mainly using my MacBook now because the Cube is too slow.

Should be able to muster something. Anything in particular you had in mind? First port of call will be geekbench, but after that...

But could you please do what I kindly asked for in this post?

Pwetty pwease ;)

Would anyone be so kind to send me the ATINDRV.kext (found in /system/library/extensions) as well as doing an ioreg dump (just start terminal and type: "ioreg -l -w0 -p IODeviceTree > dump.txt")?

The dump.txt would appear in /users/[yourname].

PM me if you have this information :)

I'm hoping to post a graph today on BareFeats.com with Geekbench results for 12 different new and old Mac Pros. I'd love to have all 64-bit results but only one or two people have posted 64-bit results on the Geekbench database.

So I'm going with the 32-bit scores. The one missing new Mac Pro is the 2.93MHz 4-core. If you have that model, please run Geekbench 2.1 and upload your score to the Geekbench.ca site.

Nice!
I dunno, my '06 MP box arrived in similar condition, the scuff marks were almost as bad. Though the black box was nicer looking and fitting with the whole "Pro" thing.

Same with mine.

I think the scuff marks are on all the Mac Pro boxes (LOL).

And I liked the black as well. Mine came in black, and really looked nice with the big picture of the top of the MP.
