Yes. I ordered another one along with a K2100m which I found on eBay for $39.99 only. Go figure.
Installed and flashed. And the 2600s is purring like a kitten.
Last part I am waiting for is a new broadcom Wi-Fi card with the required adapter to install it into the iMac 2011 socket so I can make use sidecar.
It's really unbelievable how upgradeable this Mac is.

I think we bought from the same seller for the K2100. So far so good thankfully.

Off topic but can you explain or link to information on the process to upgrade the Wi-Fi card to get sidecar working?

What is your disk layout in Disk Utility?
It's just a single partition (before trying the Win7 Bootcamp installer). I did a little online research and think that it needs to have SIP disabled before I can successfully write the master boot record. That turned into another project since to disable SIP, I would need to boot into a recovery partition to run the disable command. I have used the Bootcamp Assistant to remove the new Bootcamp partition from failed attempt using the Win7 Bootcamp installer. After I create the recovery partition, I will disable SIP, and then retry the Win7 Bootcamp installer. Sound like a reasonable plan?

But what card? Do you have an example?

And what adapters are needed?

Finally, how is everything to be wired up? Is soldering needed?

Please read it through or go directly to page 11 and search for my little how to. I linked all the parts together. All your questions will be anserwed there ...

Yes according to Winclone you need to disable SIP to restore an image. See here https://support.twocanoes.com/hc/en...-System-Integrity-Protection?mobile_site=true

If I have not flashed the new video bios into my k1100m, do you think I will be able to boot into recovery mode? I am asking because when I boot with option-R, there is no screen display. Any way to talk to it?

Have to admit I’m regretting not flashing the bios before installing the video card.

If you have another computer try the linux boot usb stick method mentioned on page #1 and ssh from remote in. Easy way to flash, of course you have to disconnect every other bootable device, i.e. open the 🖥 again. Prepare this boot device and keep it, i guess ther will be updates for the vBIOS in near future.

This is the card I ordered on eBay:

I'll DM you.
The thread quoted above suggest to use a OSXWifi card but the price is nuts. Above $150 is ridiculous for that.

I know the 2100m is said to have brightness controls working via OpenCore coming soo, but in the meantime, is there any beta release or how-to available? I'd like to try setting the brightness level in NVRAM, it works on supported iMacs to set the backlight level before MacOS loads, so I'm wondering if I could hard code a brightness-level NVRAM variable to turn it down to say 66% or so. Even if brightness control in the OS didn't work, at least it wouldn't be blinding when it boots like it is now.

I hope it will come soon. I don't mind the brightness control but the Mac is getting toasty with the screen at 100%. Especially for me living in Singapore the weather is already hot so I have to crank up the fans a bit.

This is the best new's i have read in a while. thx for the hard work in making new GPU's working native for Imac's

ill have a iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011)
3,1 GHz Intel Core i5 (going to be a i7 2600)
32 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 (upgrade my self)
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB

and sure i want to change also the GPU.

i think i have read trough the most important stuff. but i want to have clear info pleas.
is it right that the 780M is the best card to upgrade to ?

and is the AMD WX7100 and AMD WX4170 not working, detected in my model ?.

i would like to know that.. thank you.

All cards listed on page #1 will work in your 27" 2011, i.e. the 780M and both ATI cards.
All cards have currently some limitations. Personally I did not check the ATI cards right now. Cards not listed there may work and may have even more limitations.

The best card? If you are a programmer and web-surfer, all smaller and cheaper cards like the K2100M and K1100M will work, too. The 780M is has definitely more GPU power needed for games and some graphics and video editing apps, I assume. So the definition of "best" depends on your needs.

780M and WX7100 will need some mods on the heat sink. But I start to repeat what has been written down to the "how to" and "info" page before.

thx you for the Reply. i have a big use for my mac. i use it to edit Video, and also i play ooccasionally game's at window's.
i'm aware to reflash the card and use a Dremel to mod the video card heatsink, thx for the heads up 😄
so its true that the WX7100 is working. with bootscreen ?, or play safe. and go for the 780M. with nick's bios..

lots of thanks to make this happen

This is a coming soon answer. The biggest issue currently is the loss of backlight control. The LCD runs at full power and the system becomes hot. There is a nice hardware solution, but a software solution is coming.
Talking about AMD cards Nick came up with his latest "update" in post #4685. Here is the catch: The opencore setup has not been published, so far. But exactly this will solve the most problems for the cards listed on page #1 having a vBIOS from Nick.

I would choose a card you can buy from a reliable source. I have not seen a 780M or a WX7100 here in Europe these days.

oke great. might plan to buy a wx7100.. if back light is getting support. i'm not in a hurry, or i will get my self a 780M.

oke, so i skip the wx7100 ? and my best bet is the 780M

no the WX4150/30's won't work, but the WX7100 should work fine with the AMD Beta_4 drivers.
The WX7100 is a RX580 and these have been tested with the base radeon_framebuffer personality. There are some 2019 iMacs that use 580X GPUs.

According to Nick [D], brightness control will work on them even without opencore, but you will not have a bootpicker. These are difficult to source unfortunately, and they are not cheap.

The K610M is now installed in the iMac, and fortunately it works straight away in Windows and MacOS (other than the lack of bootscreen for now).

Can you share your experience and vbios?

My k610m will arrive tomorrow or the day after tomorrow,Because of the damn coronavirus, the delivery will be delayed.
I checked this website https://www.notebookcheck.net/nvidia-quadro-k610m.98902.0.html, which shows that k610 and k1100 are the same generation and both Kepler-based GPU built on the gk107, but the frequency of video memory is diff,k610m is 2600khz slower than k1100's 2800khz,
I'll try to use the nick's k1100m to flash in k610m, I hope it will work.Can I?
Anyone can help modify the Nick's vbios-rom change the frequency to 2600khz?

Hi all!
Thanks for a great thread that really made me interested in upgrading these old machines!
I have an 21,5" 2011 iMac that I bought an i7 2600s and a Nvidia Quadro k2100m (Dell) for.
Both installed and working as expected.
But, I wanted to flash the GPU with @Nick [D]vB 's rom of course. This is where things got bad.
I first bought the CH341A programmer. Installed on my PC, but could NOT get the clip to fit so that I could get any contact with the card. I tried for about 5 hours, managed to get a few seconds of contact with my old AMD card, but never with the Nvidia... So, I gave up.
I thought, well, @xanderon 's cool SSH solution is really somthing for me! I can feel it! I got the software, installed it on my USB-stick. Tested it on my MacBook Pro, works like a charm. Disconnected my SSDs, booted the iMac (blind) with the USB-stick. It never shows up in my network. Tested at a friends place. Sometimes I can see the Mac-adress and the ip-adress form MacOS there, but I can never reach it. Ping times out, SSH times out. Just nothing...
So, I gave up again and thought, @jowaju 's the coolest of them all. His easy Windows package is my cup of tea. After all, I was born using Windows. How can I go wrong? Right?
Well, again, the installation FAILS everytime on the iMac. The Bootcamp drive is there, but I am not sure if it is actually working, and I am also not sure how to proceed once it is (if ever) installed correctly. Do I need to blindly boot into Windows? Will I get the display to work once it is launched? Or why is Teamviewer a part of this?
Now it's been 2 weeks since I started to test all this and I have moved about 0 steps. I have started to doubt my tech-intellect. Maybe garbage-trucking is more my thing?
Or is there anyone out there with a good soul that would like to spend some of your time to just point me in the right direction? I would be more than thankful!!
Cheers, and have a lovely weekend everyone!

@jovonov, the clip will fit. Are you using a SOIC-8? 5 hours to get the clip to fit? Change the clip, sometimes, the feet on the clip slip upwards and can't contact the legs of the ROM chip, I've gone through a few of them that way. The Pomona brand clips work the best.

@yuica what do you mean by 2600khz? Do you mean MHz? I checked the memory frequency for both the K1100M and the K610M, at P0, they are both the same @203Mhz (base models); They change slightly at P1 and P3 states.

Now I try to use KeplerBiosTweaker v1.27 to edit it.
My mistake.It's GDDR5 VRAM clock,here
