This is unusual. If you correctly seated the card in the slot you should get a feedback using the nvflash...
Use lspci within Linux to list recognized devices.
A clip does not help if the card cannot be seen ...

Thanks for replying, I got this

If that works out I see no chance for cards having a WSON type BIOS chip...
After several attempts it manages to flash the card, I had to unmount and connect everything again and it was possible to flash through SSH, now it turns on and the system startup sound and black screen are heard several times (I have a backlight), it has a SSD without operating system. Could you help me with what I should do to have the option to install catalina. Thanks for your help

At this point you must learn to swim! The water is not that deep and cold.

Catalina installation using www.dosdude1.com and everything else you find on page #1.

You de-solder the chip and put it in a clip then re-program
This is evident! I asked more out of curiosity and because I was pretty sure that pull and plug in again would solve this issue. And if you really get a card not being recognised than flashing another BIOS is useless. How should that change things? The software on board can only work if the card is initialised by the iMac BIOS first.

I've tried to reset pram and replace 6770 with 880m. Then Also did smc and pram reset. It works but display color looks so choppy. Is it possible to fix it? High Sierra installed.

Also Adobe Painter didn't recognize card at all.

This is an issue with framebuffer depth. Put the iMac to sleep and after you wake it up, it will restore itself to 24bit and everything looks fine and works smoother. I believe this is a known issue.

Finally I redid my heatsink installation - this time using a 0.5 mm copper plate and Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut between heatsink and plate as well as between plate and GPU die. Now the heatsink temperature is actually shown 4°C higher than the GPU die temperature (might be imperfect sensor calibration, but I didn't study thermodynamics ...). After 1 hour of running the Valley benchmark the GPU die temperature stays at 54°C. Perfect!
Now I hope that electrically conductive thermal paste stays in place - after all I always put a little bit too much of thermal paste. And it must not run to the aluminum part of the heatsink either.
So I'll have to inspect the installation later on.

I'm looking on improving on this part of my installation, but I am afraid this is not an area I am very knowledgeable. Wondering if you can point me towards some places were I can learn it up, see what I need to get, etc, etc?

Well, I read the first post here and some other posts in this thread. I had also seen a video on youtube about how to use K5-pro. Apart from that it was trial and error - and I had to try several times in order to get it right.

I reset the PRAM but I can't select the usb with the OS, I just get a bootloop. is there any combination other than alt + r or similar to start from usb? I appreciate all help

** NVIDIA Quadro K4100M Mac Edition ROM **
Genuine Native Boot Screen & Brightness Control

View attachment 942198

In the words of Steve Jobs, “this is insanely great!

After much testing and research, I've put together a ROM for the NVIDIA Quadro K4100M which will allow:
  • Genuine native brightness control
  • Genuine ‘gray’ early-boot screen
  • Genuine macOS bootloader compliance
Features (testing in progress):
  • Target Display Mode: testing
  • Target Disk Mode: functional via both TB ports
  • External Monitor: 1 DP/Thunderbolt port functional only
  • iGPU: H.264 with usual highvoltage12v HD3000/Framework Kexts mods
  • dGPU temp sensor: testing
  • Internet Recovery: present
  • Apple Hardware Test: n/a
This ROM does not require a 3rd party bootloader like OpenCore.
This is an alternative ROM and mainly for the audience that just want a “drop-in” answer to upgrading their video card on the iMac 2011.

I appreciate the ongoing ROM testing done by @Ausdauersportler, @highvoltage12v. With their efforts we can expand its utility across multiple macOS versions and peripherals. The brightness range may need to be adjusted with a modified ApplebacklightFixup.kext.

Please always make sure your bootROM is updated before anything. This rom does not require the use of an external EDID parser or a separate graphics core-console stack module, but I’ve left them in there for now. It uses a built in EDID_override_Protocol a UGA_protocol and GOP_protocol. The rom is based on a TianoCore EDK2 build which houses its own generic video driver. During bootup, the efiROM is responsible for video rendering before the control is seamlessly transferred off to a different handle, the macOS video drivers. This is known as pre-boot configuration.

warning: as stated previously these cards are based on a WSON flash package and therefore are much more difficult to recover from a bad flash. Please take precautions and verify flashing.

Thanks for the great work! I flashed my K4100m card using @xanderon's USB package and your latest rom. Everything went smoothly... But my iMac wouldn't boot -- it chimed 3 three times quickly with a black lit screen:-( After I put the original gpu back, it starts up without any issue. Any suggestion on potential problems or steps I missed? Many thanks!

MXIC vs WSON BIOS Chips - HP WX4150 (4GB)

after controlling unsupported BIOS chips on CH341A Programmer I found this
item on ebay (longsheng-electronic). With test installing, soldering and patch
with original APPLE AMD BIOS this on an old HP ATI HD6770 card I can tell you,
that if you have compareable ATI cards from HP, APPLE BIOS would not running
in an iMac...

;)

MXIC.jpeg

MXIC BIOS Chip 25L4005A - US$ 2.70

It can be that various intel based Notebooks boot Video card
with mainboard-based BIOS and only important if anybody plan
to use a HP WX4150 which are now on ebay with prices of
about 60$ - don't wonder if it doesn't run - but almost a
good product for resale... ;)

"...something about trash of non-compatible and non-standard MXM card
support, fake cards on AliExpress with the "point of no return" and investing
money for experiences on an old iMac - thank you, CORONA !!!"

:apple: (INFO ONLY) :apple:

Wheather forecast: it going to be hot - actual temperatures inside...

(...it's a rainy day at 9am and my iMac is deep breething - wake up, buddy !)

Thanks to Brightness Slider, the pic is a little bit pale - the ODD temp resistor is fixed near the Video card !

Hi, I have a Problem with the max Brightness in 10.15.5 on my iMac 2010 with K2100M Nick[D]vB , which is very dark at max Settings.
I´m using Lilu 1.4.7 and WhatEverGreen 1.4.2.
Activating the AppleBacklightFixup does not help.

Usually, three beeps is a RAM issue. Try with one bar of RAM at a time.

It seems St. Nick is running a few days late this year, 🎅
or maybe a few weeks early, depending on where you live…

Quadro roms attached, for the following cards:

K1000M, K1100M, K2000M, & K2100M

They all have CoreEG2 integrated so no boot-rom mod required.
The clocks should also be unlocked in windows (not P5 limited)
and they have a moderate over-clock which should be stable.

Thanks to @highvoltage12v for running the K2X stability tests,
so if your iMac crashes, for any reason, it’s totally his fault ! ;)

I have native brightness control & Target Display Mode working
so far only on the two newer cards (K1100M & K2100M)

At the moment this will require using the OpenCore boot-loader
to do some ACPI injection, and maybe load some additional Kexts.

I’m working on a plug-n-play version that runs from a USB stick,
but there are still some things to fix so that may be a few weeks out.

Not forgetting the red team…

I worked out what was limiting the boost clocks in MacOS,
these Beta3 roms should now be completely un-limited.

I’ve also included an over-clocked version - but be careful,
it will produce a lot more heat so make sure you crank the fans up!

I’m still working on a fix for that code 43 driver issue in Windows,
and hoping we can use OpenCore to work-around the problem,
as it can also be used to enable “iMacPro” HEVC encoding for FCPX etc.

The boot-rom mod is still required for AMD, probably always will be,
It’s included here but there are no changes so no need to re-apply it.

UPDATE for K1100M !

Well this is embarrassing... turns out I'm an idiot!
I accidentally uploaded the wrong file for the K1100M
If you downloaded the previous version do not flash it.
No other cards effected, I have updated the download.

Is there a step by step guide for DUMMIES like me? I have the K1100M and I need to flash it

I still haven't gotten any clarity on the branding issue, on around page ~225 in this thread ~225 Dell/Alienware is mentioned as _not_ required, yet people keep writing you need a Dell/Alienware card. And the rest keep saying "read the first post!!!!" which doesn't make this clear, at ALL.

The questions are:

- Does MSI/Clevo/HP NVIDIA Kepler cards work, or not?
- Is it different for GTX cards and Quadra cards?
- Is a Dell or Alienware branded card required?

If we can get a clear answer to this, we can update the first post to actually include this information.
