I suppose the RX480 is deliberately NOT listed in the AMD table in the first post, at least for now, so that readers can still have a chance to buy it at a reasonable price, and besides it is not working in iMac 2011 (yet) which may cause many support questions from users who bought it unknowingly. ;)

The listing of a GPU in the table drives its price much more higher, like the K610M which was sold initially at less than $20.

i saw so many guys with the 765m and 780m, those one have the vbios then, ill order one 780 right now, also, theres any way to install windows in legacy mode using USB? or i really have to buy an DVD-R to do it?
That is another topic for discussion in another forum.
Just search among the MacRumors forums and you can find the one talking about modification of BootCamp plist to enable Windows installation from USB instead of necessitating the DVD-ROM.
There is even a thread on installing Windows onto external USB drive.

First post, OpenCore enables W10 sound on 2011, again.

Why you do not use OC to get native brightness control with this particular card? There is also a patch to get full brightness with this card. Read the first post....
Hi, Thanks for your reply! Yes, I use the OC to get the brightness control and it works - I've got a brightness slider in Displays. But it is still not as bright at max setting as the other Mac I have. As somebody mentioned here could very well be aging issue. This 2011 iMac is in rough shape indeed.

The other question of mine, to you, regarding the automated patch install. Here is what I did. I followed the steps in post #10,571 Step 9 is critical - to install all the dosdude patches from recovery mode BEFORE setting up Catalina. After that, I just followed post #1 of this thread, using Hackintosh tool + Kext Utility, installed 8 patches and voilà - the sleep mode works nicely now! I am happy for now, but if I ever going to re-install this Mac, I will then try to use your app again, and report all the steps.

The error running your patching app was probably all my fault as a newbie. Sorry for that!

I want to thank you all people for a great effort you do for the old mac community. I am pleased to be a member of this very competent and friendly forum as well!

Best regards,
alejon

I made a small app that fixes the color-depth issue at startup for some cards, like the 780M with @nikey22's ROM. After startup, start this app, the screen should turn black for a second and the colors/performance should be good to go. Appears to be working fine for me but obviously needs some testing first. Previously i had to put my iMac to sleep at least once or change screen resolution back and forth to fix this problem, now its a bit faster as i set it up in a way that it runs automatically on startup.

Download: https://github.com/passatgt/imac-color-depth-fix

Usage: just simply double click imaccolordepthfix to run. You can add it to your login items(system settings/users/login items), so it runs on a fresh startup automatically.
your script doesn't close the terminal window, I don't understand how to edit it? At the end, you need to killall Terminal instead of exit. Is it possible to minimize screen blinking so that it happens unnoticed, for a fraction of a second?

I am happy to help with this patch installer. Unfortunately I got mixed answers. Some get to working without any problems and others report issues. Unfortunately I cannot react on "it does not work" messages. This is not specific. Every user should make a screen shot of the chosen settings in advance to report.

Yes, you will have to install the patches again after an upgrade.

Backlight:
On the Catalina post there is a single attachment called AppleBacklightFixup.kext - get it and replace the one on your Catalina Loader within the EFI/OC/Kexts folder.

Updated the app, it will close all terminal windows now. If you want to edit the C file, just make your changes and run "make", that will generate a new build. Sadly not possible to fix screen blinking, at least i have no idea how to do it. This script will actually force a screen change resolution, so thats why you see the black screen for a second.

You are kidding, aren't you? Please re check the first post about such experiments. If you can post here you can surely read the docs there, too.

no im really not, tought the PSU wasn't a real problem, so it means an 21,5 iMac cant hold any ''good'' gaming GPU???

I really have to use an K / WX model in this case? the true project was try to make this imac into a gaming one, quadro's gpu's seems really bad for it

Bro, read the entire first post. All the answers are there....if You don't there is no point asking, we Will be replicating the same data over and over....You can't just put any Card in your imac....

thanks. but the question remains, how can I open this file for editing? I want to try to reduce the black screen time myself. Thanks!

An iMac 21,5'' PSU do not deliver enough power for GTX 880M.

First Page:
There are two type and sizes of cards: Smaller MXM-A cards and bigger MXM-B cards running stable only in the 27" models. While all cards will function in a 21.5" model, they are unstable due to their high power draw. @highvoltage12v tested a 770M here and had frequent Kernel Panics in macOS and BSoD's in Windows. Do not try it!

Hello, I'm trying to put my iMac in TDM after plugging a tb3 to tb2 adapter and a tb2 cable to an m1 macbook. After pressing and holding cmd-f2 nothing happends. Any fixes? ( I have a flashed k1100m in my iMac)

Edit the imaccolordepthfix.c file and run "make" in the folder where this file is. It will generate the executable file.

after running the script, it was added to the startup. now when you turn on the iMac, it starts, but there are problems in Logic Pro, I do not understand how to disable it to make sure that it is in it

remove from the startup items and restart your imac to see if the logic pro issue persist? :)
I checked on the second same imac, the problem is in your program. After one launch, it starts automatically when the computer is turned on. I don't know how to fix it or even delete it

Google is your friend, there are a few ways to uninstall apps.

no removal program does not see it. And why does it cause such problems with Logic, I'm sure it's not just with it? Don't you want to fix it? Or tell me how to delete it if you know?

Theres nothing special in this app, it will only run automatically if you add it to your login items. Otherwise it will only run if you start it manually.
