I use regular paste (Arctic mx4 ). can't get gpu to work fine (monitor iMac the black. I can see only with HDMI, on the second monitor). constantly assemble and disassemble my iMac.

When I initially installed the GPU, it was short-circuiting to the metal heat sink somewhere. This caused the PSU to go into a sort of protection mode when I tried to draw power for SATA drives. The computer would not POST when drives were connected and POSTed as soon as I disconnected them. To solve this problem, I covered every surface of the GPU (except for the MXM pins, GPU die, and VRAM chips) in Kapton tape. In the future, I'd like to go back and make sure that I am not smothering any overheating components with Kapton tape.

I am having a problem with my 2010 imac 27 WX4150 GPU Upgrade after following your excellent write ups. I am mostly successful and able to boot my SSD from OC 0.6.5pre SD like you into High Sierra. But I did not use any insulation on the card either side, just installed bare into the MXM-B heatsink. My problem is I cannot run my 1TB rotational HDD at all because the PSU refuses to POST when it is connected. My 512MB SSD runs fine with the WX4150 as long as the HDD is not connected to PSU. I have ordered some Kapton tape to insulate like you did, but I am puzzled why the system cannot run both of the SATA drives at the same time? It seems to me if it was a shorting situation with the WX4150 in the MXM neither of the drives would be working. I am hoping the Kapton tape will correct the problem and I will be able to keep using the 1TB HDD for time machine and other backup purposes. Thanks for the very detailed write ups in your recent posts of your imac 2010 WX4150 GPU Upgrade. Note: I did use the 1mm copper shim, MX-4, and K5 pro just like you advised. Also am using the same Dell 4GB bios.

Hello, just to confirm what i have found out

1. got iMac 27 mid 2010
2. I have intalled SSD and have HDD and DVD still functioning
2. swaped cpu from i5 750 to x3470 -> working well for three years now
3. amd 5750 fried and i got just colored vertical lines all over display
4. bought K1100m from aliexpress, chosen the easy way...... (month waiting to ship)
5. swaped GPUs, nothing happend (all fans full on, while LCD still disconnected)
6. got the GPU bios flashed with clip flashing tool
7. got it in Imac but still nothing, after that I discovered that there are Diag LEDs on logic board

But here it starts to be a little tricky, as I have already read there should be four LEDs on left bottom corner of logic board. But I can see only three of them, can not find any picture on web (real picture, I would rather not take out the logic board out of case.....). I am looking just from the bottom left vent on the chassis.

so I did complete install just to be sure everything is connected the way it should be.....

With new K1100m (actually I am sure it is not new...)
1. plug the cable into the wall outlet an first LED imidiatelly light
2. push the power button and nothing happens I centrainly hear fans and HDD I think, no more LEDs turn on

so I installed back the old GPU

With burned 5750m
1. plug the cable into the wall outlet an first LED imidiatelly light
2. push the power button second LED light just a second later
3. third LED light when LCD turns on (with colour vertical stripes)
4. I cant see if there is fourth LED.....


Trickiness continues... second diag LED turn on means that my power supply is OK and powering the whole logic board. So why would it run good when old card installed and not with the "new" one?

Only thing that came into my mind is that the K1100m is shortened somehow and dead

Can you try it with an external screen maybe? Its easier to debug that way as you don't need to connect the main display. You could try pram reset, that might help too. Also might be a cpu compatibility issue? If you still have the old i5 cpu, maybe try that one too.

Does anyone have any idea why the patch won’t complete? I have SIP and ARV disabled. Seems like nothing I do will get it to complete all the way. I’m using the files from post 8,669.
I tried from desktop and from the usb install drive. I was good with everything except I don’t have any sound output devices in Big Sur.

Now i have Instaled in different Imac HDD OS Catalinia Using Dosdue Patcher. Acting same as High Sierra. on SSD. I,ve got this mac from my friend who is simplu throw it to bin, Due GPU failure. I tried all files OC Files starting from 0.5.9 till newest ones. nothing changed. I would be diging more in this site, but aftec Covid i cant read more tha 15 minutes per hour. My eyes is totaly craped .
The Catalina Loadet from this Thred didint worked for me. after flashing it with BalenaEcher USB/SD wont Initialize. Tried difeerent methods all went same.
In Imac now IS HDD with freslhy Instaled Catalina (as i mentioned). In Imac was made postinstall without Legacy gpu settings.
Maybye I can do som preconfiguration in os Throught my Macbook pro ? As i Mentioned i can mount Imac SD/HDD on my mabbook pro ant start os. Sorry for gramar or erros For now i cant see good what i am typing

Faount the solution . puted back 8 GB Of ram in that machine and it started to work. I Think i will keep this as i got. With 8 GB OF ram.

You need the proper AppleBacklightFixup.kext - search post #1 for the download and install guide.

First post - no comments on sources and sellers of used cards. This would become a disaster and sellers would start to rank themselves up using fake accounts.

I put a warning about this business with used 10 year old cards on top of the first post. Try to get new unused spare items, otherwise you may see this...we did some test shopping last year and the success rate was at 50% - now you can calculate you chances on your own.

Hello! New to the thread, excited to see the advances.
I just installed a K110M to my 2010 27¨iMac and it works wonders! But I haven't been able to flash the GPU, the ethernet won't connect to my iMac when it's on and therefore I cannot find any network signs from it when it boots into the USB. Is there any way of embedding the SSID and password settings into any USB file? What do you recommend me to do? (I have already called my services company and they will come to check, any ideas until then?).

I have still not gotten to a solution with this. I got an external flasher although the delivery is still far from today. Is there any way I could flash this with a VirtualBox? I have windows 10 on it, I just do not think it can safely work. If not then I will just have to wait, don't know what the hell is wrong with my ethernet.

The available options listed on the first post, Linux USB or Windows 7 image. VirtualBox will possibly not allow direct hardware access. To try visit nvidia.com and download the latest (Windows) flash utility.

This ROM does not require a 3rd party bootloader like OpenCore.
This ROM is build on the same principles as my K4100M. Unfortunately, the color-pixel bug is still present. But I am working on it. The brightness will need to be adjusted via a kext as previous. I have a feeling that the native brightness dimness is also inline with the same generic driver bug previously mentioned. The rom has a modest clock table boost as well.

Post-installation Requirements:
Brightness Control Stepping Mod:
-Turn computer on, hold down Command(⌘)-R
-Choose Utilities > Terminal
-Enter:csrutil disable
-Reboot
-Download and open 'Kext Utility v2.6.6'

-Navigate to S/L/E (System/Library/Extensions)
-Copy "AppleBacklight.kext" to Desktop
-Edit: AppleBacklight.kext/Contents/Info.plist
-Scroll down to: IOKitPersonalities > AppleIntelPanelA > ApplePanels
-There you find several Apple LCD profiles.
-For the iMac 2011 27" machine locate:

I've been reading this thread for days and i found this intriguing.. i don't see why nobody else is talking about this so called color-pixel bug. What is that exactly. Can it be fixed? Does it happens with the k3100m and the 4100m only?

I'm going to need some answers. i've been searching the thread about what card should i pick for my 27' 2011 iMac.

I've found a clevo 765m 2GB for a good price and i'm wondering if that one works if i can flash the vbios to the dell/alienware version (Dell.GTX765M.2048.130518.rom).

As far was i know the Quadro versions are way better and i think i will be able to get my hand on one of those. My iMac has the AMD 6770m so i guess i need to get the 3 pipe heatsink correct? Or the card will get busted right?

Something that is really important to me is color accuracy as i am a designer and ofc brightness control over the backlight so i don't burn my eyes.

Possibly nobody is talking about it because the solution has been posted on the BIOS page you cited yourself. You may also check the famous and unknown first post for an extension named AppleBacklightFixup.kext and get this installed. There are several ways to achieve it.

Finally you may just send the system into sleep mode once after start to enable the complete macOS driver stack and avoid the "pixel bug".

About the "new bios" question there has been a comment at the top of the first post on the first page added along while ago.

I installed the softSierra and High Sierra Package Installer and imac-color-depth-fix
the colors are not smooth there are always the artefacts I have the brightness at 100%. the only solution that works activated on standby of the screen 1 minutes after waking up, the image is splendid. peace

To my knowledge you need both. The extension installed and let the system once sleep after start.

Well thanks to all your hard work I now have Mojave working with a nvidia quadro k3100m 4gb (hynix memory version) that is un-flash able rom so no boot screens (open core perhaps?) but No more black screens after boot with the sleep patch etc and full metal acceleration.

Metal score is 1526
Opencl score is 1218

I will test Catalina next but the k3100m series is definitely a pain in the but.. Some flash some don't.. Some work some don't.. Just beware of those cheaper cards but hey it can workout lol

Hi, my Graphics card failed and iam looking to purchase a k3100m card. Did you have to do anything special after installing the card ?. Last time i installed a Dell Alienware 870m i didnt update any BIOS or do anything. The computer just booting fine. If you can you state what you did ? Thanks

new bug found on K3100M with test it in iMac 27 late 2009 - 2010 , no display on signal.
only 3 diag leds working, but 4 not on.

video only routing on external display.

i have test it with 2 diffirent imac 2009 year.
problem in bios.

put k4100m in same model late 2009 imac 27
card working good
4 led on.
Video Routing on internal screen, and external, all fine.

K3000M and K3100M need to recreated and tested with late 2009 imac and 2011 again.

dont say me, about broken cable, or not good connection,
i put k3100m onto late 2009 imac few times, and nothing happen.

put back original imac late 2009 card 4850 and its working fine.

bios taken like first for k3100m, like last in downloads.
