I do similarly for migration
  • On old mac, macOS typically keep all data or a user on the home folder. Make sure this is true
  • On new mac, make user account with identical user and home folder name (note these 2 are potentially different and can be important if you have aliases), then copy everything from old mac to this account on the new mac. For a few folders like Music, etc. I manually make sure data from old mac is placed there.
  • For apps, I just reinstall
For backup

So far I just use time machine but unknown if can be recovered under OCLP. If backup size isn't huge and everything is under account home folder, can setup google drive to maintain a backup of the home folder.
Thanks Howard and dorninko I’ll try this way this evening
When I transferred my data from my Mac mini to the imac I used migration assistant. It worked fine before I upgraded the graphics card but did’t recognise the new card. I wonder if migration assistant issues were were the reason.
Thanks for the advice. Your site is very good by the way, very informative.

Hello, can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I had very good price for wx7100 (~ 100$) it is hardware v1.1. I have iMac 12,2 27 with 3 pipe heat sink.
Using CH341a I put EG vBios into ROM (WX7100-EnableGop.bin - verified, looks that should work).
After boot my Sonoma (with classic Open Core Patcher installed and patched), system boot correctly, display worked, but in some simple settings. I checked and there was information, that no kext is loaded for my GPU, but as I said, display worked in system.
I try to install oclp and install drivers. There was info, that drivers for my computer will be installed (and there was info about AMD Polaris drivers) but after reboot situation was same - no kext loaded. I was not sure which drivers I should chose, so I changed it to AMD GCN (my card is in section GCN v4 on first page), and use checkbox GOP injection. After reboot I loose my screen after system boot (EFI, boot menu from oc and progres bar of system loading still works, but black screen when my desktop should be shown).

So, I made backup to second partition (not APFS container) and on first partition, I reinstalled system from USB (chosed iMac12,2, and AMD Polaris drivers during patching instalation USB). I installed system, two reboots during reinstall and.... Still black screen.

I miss something? What I'm doing wrong?
For next ones with similar problem. The answer is... SHIFT!

On computer with flashed AMD card (EG), after install fresh system, and on last reboot before config the system, you need to launch system using SHIFT+ENTER on boot menu. Then config your system, and install OCLP and drivers. After that your system will boot without any tricks.

So, solution for black screen is to launch system using SHIFT+ENTER on boot menu.

I'm trying to find the version on this Radeon 7100 and apparently, I am blind. is it a 1.1?

Also if put in a 2011 27" w dual SSDs will heat be a big issue?

Hi guys, i'm here again!. I was looking for a new GPU for my other IMAC 12,1 (2011) 21,5" with Windows 10, with power supply 205W. (in the other one I have K2100M TDP55W).
Any suggestion? I was reading that NVIDEA 2014+ requires 27", so I suppose have to buy one of AMD GNC v4 GPU (2016-2017). Is it right? the best for my imac is WX4150 (TDP 50W)?

wx4130 require no HW mod ( link )

Right, so as it stands, I've done the first run of upgrades to get this mid 2011 iMac running. 32gb, i72600s, 1TB SSD (I didn't have a drive temp sensor on the old HDD, but I've put the one in that came with the SSD kit) and for now, a used AMD Radeon 6770M , which fixes the initial problem that the 6750M died.

Booting fine into Sequoia with OCLP

Now to try and get hold of a better card. Is there a way to upgrade the WiFi card to, a plug play method?

I bought a MINI PCI-E adapter and an u.fl extension cable.(2011,27,imac)
https://m.tb.cn/h.T0Aj9Nj?tk=WHIr3rETWxS CZ0015
Today I installed bcm943602cdp on Wx4130 Sequoia 15.1 and found that Wi-Fi is completely normal, but Bluetooth cannot be used. I want to get help from friends

AMD M5100 2GB support (AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2GB)

This card has been produced in many variants, currently I know of at least three different types and ident strings:

TypeidentBIOS versiondevice-idworking
Green AMD PCB109-C93157-00A_03W5170M6820yes
Blue AMD PCB109-C42271-01_02M5100-Dell6821yes
Red DELL PCB109-C42241-01_02M5100-DELL6821yes

This GPU will be identified by the macOS as AMD FirePro M5100 and by MetalBench and GeekBench5 as AMD Radeon R9 M370X. The current vBIOS supports Elpida video memory.

Warning:
This card is easy to install but complex to manage during the initial software installation.
You need to install OpenCore in advance and add the changes posted before booting into macOS.

The card will not boot into macOS without the adjusted CAIL values in the config.plist.

Use the M5100-DELL vBIOS for the red Dell card, only!

After installing the card it will not simply boot directly into any macOS version (WindowServer crash) unless you install and use OpenCore and apply the so called CAIL settings within the DeviceProperties section (implemented in OCLP 0.3.2 and later).

So you need to install OpenCore onto your boot disk before booting in your current installation in normal multi user mode.

In case you have a working system before changing the card just run OLCP, select the proper MXM GPU type to AMD (GCN) and build and install OpenCore to your system and reboot. Otherwise use another Mac to create the OC config or create a OpenCore BootCD.

The settings needed and created by any OCLP from 0.3.2 onwards automatically are equivalent with adding radpg=15 -wegtree apdpmod=pikera to the boot-args in the config.plist of OpenCore. In particular the first entry radpg=15 is important to boot into macOS, the following two are more cosmetic.

This GPU type has been used in 2015 15" MacBookPro models.

Tested systems:
- iMac12,2: sleep/wake broken - black screen on cold boot needs PRAM reset each time
- iMac12,1: sleep/wake broken - black screen on cold boot needs PRAM reset each time

- iMac11,1: no problems
- iMac11,2: no problems
- iMac11,3: no problems

Memory support:
1. Elpida/Samsung, 2. Hynix BFR and 3. Hynix AFR memory.

Known issues:
- external display sync is difficult on all systems and needs the main LCD or the system to go to display sleep once after connecting the external display

Known features:
- Airplay is working until Catalina as with any other AMD metal card on iMac11,x and iMac12,2 (without using QuickSync)
- high metal scores
- boot screen with OpenCore
- brightness control working
- GPU power management working
- needs macOS 10.8.3 or better (HD7000 support)
- still full Monterey support (no root patching needed unlike Kepler)

Performance:
- GeekBench Metal and OpenCL: > 10.000
- Valley DELL: 23.46 FPS, 981 Score
- MetalBench: 31 MRays/s
- CoreClock: 300 MHz idle - 850 MHz max
- MemoryClock: 150 MHz idle - 1125 MHz max
- PowerDraw: 5W idle - 35W max

Warnings:
- do not flash the vBIOS from the DELL card onto the other two cards, it will cause a bad flash and will make the card unusable
- a bad flash prevents the iMac from booting and running the Linux flash utility, again!
- bad flashes can only be cured by using a CH341A clip or some other nasty tricks

News:
- OCLP 0.3.2 and later support this card. So you can update OC using OCLP in future. Nevertheless the boot strap process is complex since you cannot boot the normal macOS unless OC has been installed in advance! After booting successfully macOS OCLP will auto-detect this graphics card and no manual intervention is required.
- As pointed out many times on the thread, the first post and here these GCN1-3 cards will not work properly in iMac12,x (Mid 2011) models. There is no solution and very likely there will be none. Consider those cards as simply unsupported!

Ausdauersportler@ hello!
Multiple vbios versions for the M5100 graphics card
M5100-EnableGop91-LVDS.rom
M5100-EnableGop91-LVDS-HynixBFR.rom
M5100-EnableGop91-LVDS-HynixAFR.rom
M5100-EnableGop-LVDS.rom
Are all four versions only for lvds models? Several versions of the test model iMac11,1 the screen does not light up without any display.
Which of the multiple vbios versions of M5100 is suitable for EDP models of iMac?

W5170M Graphics Card
W5170M-EnableGop.rom tried in iMac11,1 iMac11,2 iMac11,3 three models can be used normally.

Thank you!

11,1 need eDP M5100 VBIOS. I've installed one and it works. What is unclear is if there are EG eDP VBIOS for M5100. Read here

M5100 EG vbios Only LVDS version, no EG EDP version is that what it means?

github repository shows following VBIOS are available for M5100
  1. LVDS EG
  2. eDP GOP
  3. EG2 (presumably eDP without LVDS in name. Require flashing logic board rom)
11,x use #2. Since not EG, make a rescue CD ( link ) in case wrong OC ever gets installed to avoid opening the screen again

I upgraded my 12,1 iMac with a Dell WX4150 and an i7-2600 but after flashing vbios I get this strange horizontal line pattern. I've tried various vbios all with the same effect. Any ideas if this is a vbios/software issue or is there something faulty with my new gpu? Thanks.

Do you have got a photo of the card (where one can read the chip markings)?
And maybe the original VBIOS?
Maybe you got a WX4130?

Unfortunately I only have the pictures from the Ebay listing.
I did dump the original firmware which I can send later if needed.

Edit: Oh you might be right... I think they mislabeled the listing and this is actually a WX4130? 🤦‍♂️

Yep 109-C98581-00 VER 1.1 is wx4130. Here is mine. Since yours already installed and can't read it card number, maybe check Hardware Graphics and see if matches mine (I don't know if 4150 will read the same through)
