Im assuming now would be a good time to sell? I have a mid 2010 model but I'd like something with an i series chip or better graphics.

I use it primarily as an HTPC/Server right now.

Suggestions? I know it's not old but I rather get the best value for it now.

If you're prepared to risk possibly not having a Mini for several months (if it takes that long for Apple to update it) then sell.

They won't announce anything tomorrow. Macs are announced and released on Tuesdays (with the exception of the 2011 MBP).

But with a release so imminent, and an upgrade so substantial as Sandy Bridge, if I were you, I'd return it now and just sit tight for the update.

Ya I'm going in today after work to take it back to the Apple Store. Hope it's coming soon!

i feel your pain everyone, I have a ton of offers in for my late 2009 mini for $550, but since my imac hd failed i cant sell until i can take the cash right the the apple store for the new one!:(

This is the age-old argument for the Mini.

There's not enought space in one to put discreet graphics. Apple wants you to go to the iMac if you want extra graphics capabilities.

*Snip*

With Thunderbolt, could one house a graphics card in a breakout box?

There'll probably be a Mini update either at or shortly after the OS X Loin release.
Having a Mini at the lowest tier MBP specs would be nice, I'd definitely get one to use as my home machine and keep my aging early 08 Macbook (really hating it's X3100) for when I go out.
That Thunderbolt external graphics sounds pretty good, as the machine gets older you can stick new parts onto prolonging it's life or run multiple monitors.

i'm waiting, wanting :p

i guess they'll not release a blu-ray mac mini.. i dont know if they could sell them for 699. they keep the dvd and charge the same price or add blu ray and charge 50-100 more.

i'd rather buy the dvd version

well since the thread is on 2011 mac mini. here goes they keep the new design cause it looks cool get over it. so what can they do with the design as it is now:

1) NO BLU-RAY ! why it would hurt iTunes and Apple tv.

2) a flash storage like airbook is the most likely upgrade.

3) leave the dvd player in ?

4) better graphics ?

5) esata or usb3 yes they are going to add some kind of faster connection.
I think kill the card slot and go with an express slot. Nice move if they do it.

6) now since I know one thing about these machines by killing the dvd player adding an esata slot is very easy to do they may do that.

my vote is 2 and 6.

No BD.... thats one of the main reasons I started to support the apple.... profit before product feeling that has evolved within a few long standing apple fans.

A macmini with BD and integrated apple tv with surround sound would be the only box under my telly, if apple had bothered to build it. instead there is nothing apply related under my telly.

Sony BD player, Sony surround sound box, skyhd box, btvision box and sony dvdr box........ NO apple box what so ever, shame on you apple.

I think it's safe to say apple will never, ever put a blu ray drive in a Mac. Do yourself a favor - get an external bd drive, makemkv, and handbrake. Then, use plex to view all your movies by clicking through them with your harmony remote from the comfort of your couch. This is better than native blu ray support anyway. As to the date of release and specs for the new mini, everyone wants at least the same specs as the mbp that just got released, but no one knows if this will become a reality, and even if it does, when it will happen. I hate to be negative, because I want this as much as anybody, but speculation is just that. Nothing more. I could speculate a quad core i7 mini with 1 gb ddr5 VRAM, 16 gb system ram, 8 tb ssd - you get the point. I'll just patiently wait for an official statement from jobs, Inc. I mean apple. For the record, I hate how much I love apple! May all our hopes and dreams come true soon!

The consensus of current rumors points to a Mac Mini and iMac refresh in April. The refresh will probably not coincide with WWDC or Lion release. Apple doesn't use those events to release new hardware. I would expect the new Mac Mini to have the same stats as the low end MacBook Pro. Too bad too because the HD 3000 is worse the the 320M for gaming. I would also expect it to still have an optical drive. Seems like Apple isn't quite ready to kill optical yet except in the Air.

I've seen others say this and I'm confused as to why. According to Anandtech:

Sandy Bridge delivers playable performance in every single title at 768p and “Low” detail settings. What’s more, it actually surpasses the GeForce 320M in Apple’s MacBook Pro 13 in five out of six games (the exception being STALKER).

The HD 3000 isn't a huge leap over the 320M, but doesn't seem much worse, unless I'm missing something?

It wins at lower resolutions. And at low settings. Most people run higher resolutions and want higher graphics settings.

I've read a lot of the rumblings about the iMac refresh, but haven't really seen anything regarding the Mac Mini. Where did you see the stuff about the mini?

It is most likely getting updated alongside the iMac, like it usually does (although not always the case). Since both are due for an update, this seems to be the case. Should be out this month or May at the latest based on the rumors.

Can you please explain how the donkey work and expense of buying an external drive then mucking about with ripping and encoding for hours, could possibly be better than simply inserting in a disc and pressing "play"?

At some point one needs to come off the kool-aid: truth is that Apple is doing customers a gross disservice by not doing the incredibly simple task off adding blue ray support that can be found on a cheapo 500 buck Acer or any other computer. The Mac Mini should have this option - period.

I agree they should add Blu-Ray support. That would definitely make it far more likely that I would purchase the 2011 Mini if they included it. Unfortunately Apple is pushing it's inferior quality iTunes content and is unlikely to include Blu-Ray support.

Probably 4GB Since the 13'' MBP also has 4GB as a minimum. It would be strange if every device will have standard 4GB except the Mac MIni. (The regular MB still needs an update)

I think Lion will require 2GB minimum. If Snow Leopard is anything to go by, new products released shortly before Lion should have more than the minimum required RAM, enough to run it comfortably. So I agree it should come with 4GB RAM minimum.
