Those specifications are for desktop Arrandale and Lynnfield chips, which don't deal with the current chip roster (Sandy Bridge). Also, Mac Minis never used desktop CPUs IIRC (current CPUs are LV laptop C2Ds running at 25W).

Ah yup oversight on my part - even if it matches the 13" MBP I'll be satisfied :)

To me it seems the biggest thing that the Mini is lacking to a be a true 'mid-tier' option is a better video card.

Standard Mac Mini config is a true entry level computer. However it has upgrade options with the processor, HD, and RAM which could get it more towards mid-tier. I would love to have the option to pay for a better videocard that could handle moderate gaming.

This is the age-old argument for the Mini.

There's not enought space in one to put discreet graphics. Apple wants you to go to the iMac if you want extra graphics capabilities.

Welcome to Apple...

did you guys see the last rumours?

No Hardware Announcements at WWDC 2011? [Updated: No New iPhone Until FY 2012?]
"Apple closed the door this morning on any speculation that it would announce new hardware at its Worldwide Developers conference saying it would focus on iOS and Mac OS."

So, now im really worried

no Mac Mini in 2011?

Apple never announces internal hardware revisions at a conference, they'd only do it if it was a redesign.

Seeing how the 2011 MacBook Pro lineup was ushered in with relatively little fanfare, Apple doesn't need a platform like WWDC to introduce an updated Mini with Sandy Bridge internals. It could still very well happen this year, though probably not before we see an update to the iMacs.

Phew

Thing is i'm goin' to US mid 2011 and I'm really mad about this little fella. I can't stand these big desktop towers anymore - they're pissing me off since 1995. I noticed that I don't need all this technology chase over graphic boards, new motherboards, new procs.. The idea of using a spec-ready, easy to handle device its something that I would call wonderful. Mini Mac should refresh me cuz I never touched on a mac before, it will be like learning a new language. Plus, I'm a damn minimalist, apple opened my eyes about form-factor. I hate the dust, I hate the noise, I hate my ugly PC case and the mixed brands inside of it, I hate the thick cables.. I'm not much of a gamer - let me play some RTS games and I'm all set. Wait, I can also put it in my pack, visit some friends and watch some HD movies on their fancy TV's, play some Fifa 11 with honest graphics.. Its like a Mobile Fun Center! I can't wait to see my monitor, PS3 and Mini Mac coexisting in a single desk, DAMN!

Amazon shortage...

Any thoughts on the current Mac Mini shortage at Amazon.com? They've got some available from other retailers, but it's showing a 2-6 week wait from Amazon. Should I start to get excited or no?:eek:

Probably not. With Apple the delivery times are still very short. If they slip up to be like two weeks, we might be getting somewhere.

Between the Amazon and Best Buy shortages I am pretty certain something is going to happen soon.

If I look up the Mac mini on Amazon.com, then there are several available. What 'shortage' are you talking about?

I really don't know what you're looking at. Amazon says it won't have any available until April 2. Either way, I'm just grabbing at any sign of a refresh I can find. I've been waiting to move back to Mac for a while now.

I'm really hoping for late June as far as the updated Mini

I like the options many have suggested. It would be nice to get a little bit of a graphics bump over the 13" MBP, but that probably won't happen.

If it's the same specs as the 13" MBP with i5 and SSD options, I'll be real happy.

I just hope it's late June so I can banish the iMac to the closet sooner rather than later...

I now have 2 more days till I can return my brand new Mac Mini 2010 back to Apple before my 14-days are up. I'm thinking I may do it with Best Buy having them Backordered. But at the same time then I'm 1. without a computer and 2. without an HTPC, so NO TV, as I don't have cable. Though my other thought was to return the mac mini, and buy a new MBP instead and cough up the extra dough for it, but I love this little Mac Mini and I just upgraded to 8GB. Don't know what to do. I'd be a happy camper if they announce an upgrade/refresh tomorrow so I can go take it back for a shiny new i3 or i5 cpu.

They won't announce anything tomorrow. Macs are announced and released on Tuesdays (with the exception of the 2011 MBP).

But with a release so imminent, and an upgrade so substantial as Sandy Bridge, if I were you, I'd return it now and just sit tight for the update.

Macmall is purging inventory, selling new mac minis on ebay for $599.

Where are your April bets if the release is on a tuesday?
the 5th; the 12th; the 19th; the 26th

I am hoping it's earlier rather than later. I agree this macmall deal feels like an inventory purge, and that the new mac mini update will be out soon. Saving $100 is tempting, but I'd rather spend that $100 for a nicer machine that will last a year longer.

Want this for a HTPC that will send eyetv OTA recordings to my two tvs on opposite sides of the same wall (bedroom and living room).
