If you make an assertion, you should be prepared to defend it.

Plex cannot passthrough DTS-MA or True-HD; it can only extract the DTS or AC3 Dolby Digital cores. Handbrake, likewise, can only packaged the extracted AC3 into an M4V container because M4V cannot contain True-HD or DTS-MA audio. It can also transcode DTS to AC3 for an M4V container, or package DTS into an MKV container.

Hey, this is not a debate. This is an exchange of information.

I don't have to document everything.

If it's important enough to you (like it was for me), you'll dig deeper yourself.

This will hopefully be the case...I'm waiting because a mac mini is definitely in my future. :)

Depending on whether ThunderBolt takes off, I may be looking at the cheapest TB-Mini since apparently they cant add it to my 2010 Mac Pro *grumbles* - A Quad Mini with TB would be excellent as a server with one of those RAID devices.... *imaginary product drool*

I too drool like crazy to think of such a thing.

On another note: I wonder what type of cable length we are going to see with TB. (and cost-per meter)

That's highly unlikely and would be unprecedented. It typically follows the MacBook introduction in terms of features.

I hope it mirrors the MBP 13" setup. I sure don't expect the 15-17 inch specs though.

I will be all over a i5 or i7 Mac mini even if it's not quadcore.

This is what im waiting for. Right now I am using my 2010 15" i7 as a desktop since getting a 13" Air. Plan on selling the 15" to get a mini once they are announced.

That is what I want. A nice Mini with a Thunderbolt RAID. 4x3TB would be nice? :)

Me too. Unfortunately a quad is a long ways off yet. Still the dual core SB iX series seems powerful enough for my current needs. Just needs to come already!

Well, MacBook usually follows the base 13" MBP (sans FW800, backlit KB etc).

Why the separate lines then? Is it the ceiling of the MB's are the lower end MBP? I'd think it makes sense with lower end components and it's far sub $1000, but the MB's are still pretty pricey.

Ask Apple, both computers are still popular though. Not everyone is ready to fork out 200$ for FW800 and backlit KB if they don't need it. Sure, you get 4GB of RAM but that is 40$ from aftermarket. Now the difference is obviously greater as MB is waiting for an update but before the MBP update, the difference was rather small.

I think the new MB (whenever it is released) will have i3 to distance it from the MBP13, maybe even a lower entry price point too.

What would bother me would be if the new mini was released with the i3 CPU...

Personally I would love a low-powered Mini with TB that had a lower price point. It would be perfect for home server use, which is my use. However, I can understand that other people would like a more powerful Mini.

OK - so aside from specs, are there any updated juicy tid-bits on WHEN this new system is likely to be released?

Any manufacturers leaking grainy phone images?

Anything to base an idea that we only have to wait a few more weeks (and not a few more months)...?

April 21: Green Mac event, minis and iMacs refreshed at once with an emphasis on being energy efficient and recyclable screens. Macbooks came out on the 12th. Lion previewed.
