Are these issues mostly with the 12.9? I haven’t experienced anything like this with my 10.5. I was considering selling my 10.5 to go to a refurb (good deal) 12.9 Gen 2 but his has me thinking about holding on to mine. I would love to get the upcoming iPad Pro but I imagine those will probably reach the $1200-$1500 range maxed out.

There are some mention with the 10.5, but it seems to be less common.

It’s always a numbers game, only a small proportion suffer this or it would be more news worthy. If you want the 12.9 I would still go for it.

What is going on here? my screen is unresposive not once a week, not once a day, but on every hour and many times. i think after the latest update it is unresponsive all the time.

ipp 2nd 12.9

is it software issue because i dont remember to have this problem few months ago?

Interestingly I was talking to a friend with a gen-1 device at the weekend and he gets the same problem, too. I never experienced it with my gen-1, only the gen-2.

The problem seems to be more significant when charging the device, too.

Has anyone with a replacement device experienced re-occurance so far?

Yes - IPP 12.9 G2 wifi/lte on 11.4.1
My roomie has similar issues on a Mini 4 wifi/lte

:(

Update - the Mini 4 has this issue since 11.3 to 11/4.1

Turn off gestures in the settings and it will behave correctly. Something to do with the iPad thinking it’s picking up multiple points of touch due to gestures. Once turned off all ok!

Installed the iOS 12 PB yesterday to see what if any effect that had on the "screen freeze" issue.
Answer: It has some effect so far. The freeze has not totally disappeared but has improved. So far.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

I have not. (Restored from a backup made on the replaced device)

Yes, I’m now experiencing the problem with my replacement iPad Pro. My original was deemed defective and I was given a new (not refurbished) iPad last June...with only 3 days left on my warranty! It was restored from Backup and worked perfectly until a couple weeks ago when it began exhibiting the same old problems: Scrolling freezes or lurches, typed letters, numbers and/or characters don’t display, typing freezes for 5 to 15 seconds entirely. I’m really disappointed in this device, which I loved initially.

I've now been thru two new and one refurb. They have all developed this issue.
I've started looking at alternative tablets.

please send an email to apple and let them know that replaciing a device is not a fix.

Not sure what they did. I shipped it to them. But i assume so

please ask them about the reason, so we rest can ask about it when contacting the customer support. and atleast, when i hear them saying ”this is the first time” i can say, it isnt because some have gotten a replacement unit already and they should stop repeatig ”the first time ever heard” nonsense...

Just got my 2017 12.9” iPad Pro replaced under warranty. Mine had got to the point where using it in bed was next to impossible, the touchscreen would just not respond properly. Flat on a table it was absolutely fine. Weird. I also noticed that it seemed to be worse when I was holding the bezel near where the camera lens is on the back.

Anyway, got a new one, will report back if I see any issues again.

Four months since I got my replacement (new) 12.9 2017 iPad Pro and this one is suffering very badly the past few days. I am very disappointed. My 2016 12.9 is still trouble free. Gonna see if they will replace it again.

Haven’t yet had a chance to show it to Apple service centre but I have noticed that if I rotate my iPad so that the smart connector is on top (when being held in landscape) that the screen touch issues seem less severe. Not sure what the connection (*drumroll*) is, but....

It has to be software related. I never had this issue at all until the last update. 2017 12.9. My older 2015 12.9 IPP my husband has and he too has noticed it only after the most recent update. If it was hardware related at a, two different IPP from two different years would not all of a sudden have this issue intermittently only after the most recent update.

there are many people here who have had the issue since the iPad was on iOS11.0, at least...

Right my point was it has to be software.... so returning the iPad for a replacement is not a good idea. Besides likely getting a refurbished one, the new one will also eventually get the same issue. I hope they fix it soon in next update.

I think it abit differently. They not acknowledge the issue because it hasnt been fixed (or there is something really wrong and all units need to be replaced so better to be quiet until class action strikes) and only way to is to replace the unit until they take it seriously. If the replaced unit gets the same symptoms, it is going back to apple as many times as needed. It is the only way to get them to take the issue seriously.

That would not explain why a software update is what started it. Mine only does it sporadically and I think it’s related to some app and how that app is interacting with the last few OS updates.

It never happens if I’ve closed out everything... in fact I think it’s a drawing or sketching app that’s doing it... I think it’s the palm rejection or something which is Messing up and if the app is still running in the bg maybe it’s causing the issue. I’m going to start uninstalling my sketching drawing apps one by one and doing trials. I don’t think it’s pro create as they update frequently.

Since there are a couple of threads going on this, I’ll post this here also.

I was editing photos in Lightroom yesterday morning on my iPad And it was acting up like crazy. I lost my cool and out of frustration I punched the screen. Not enough to break it obviously. But I’ll be damned, it’s been flawless since.

Just the side of my fist to the center of the screen. It’s the next day now and it still hasn’t skipped a beat. Even as I type this, the touch screen is working perfectly whereas before it would be skipping letters like crazy. Not sure what I did, but it immediately started working properly again after I smacked it... for now at least.
