Maybe the Surface Studio had them radically rethink their plans. Probably not though. Really odd not to see an iMac refresh/update by this time. We can only hope that something serious like a redesign, shift to new processors, or video chips, is causing the delay. However, the worst possibility is that they are simply waiting for the emoji keyboard to be available. The lack of an update yesterday could be a good thing, it could mean a new design or that Apple are waiting for the latest processors and graphics cards. I don't see them doing much else with the screen at the moment it's already a 5K display. There could even be a Touch ID and Touch Bar added to the keyboard.

No new iMac today. Though honestly, speaking as an owner of a 2015 395X 5K, I'd rather wait till October for the latest AMD Series 11 GPUs than get slightly better Series 10 GPUs now.
God I hope not. I am not an artist so the Surface Studio's design is useless to me and would in fact be a major detriment.
I'm playing the long game myself. Next up: April keynote

I'm not a visual artist myself and see no need to pay a premium for what the Surface Studio can do, but I do think Apple has that machine on their minds, and I'm sure Jony and his team would love their turn at flexing their design power to one up Microsoft's efforts. But I echo other comments on this forum thinking the next redesign will be modest and that sounds right to me. The chances of hardware guts in the base with tilting display and a touchscreen are not in Apple's cards for the iMac, or any Mac for that matter in my opinion.
I disagree. I would love an iMac with the capabilities of the Surface Studio.Agreed. And no one is demanding a touchscreen iMac, which would also require a total overhaul and redesign of OS X!
The inherent problem with that is that Apple's betting not he "ecosystem" model. A MacBook Pro or an iMac would eat into sales of the iPad Pro, and vice versa for a more capable Pro.I disagree. I would love an iMac with the capabilities of the Surface Studio.
Unfortunately, I completely agree with you. I don't think we will see a touchscreen Mac anytime soon if ever due to the reasons you mention. The inherent problem with that is that Apple's betting not he "ecosystem" model. The problem with that is that the iPad is tying to compete with a machine that has more features that a full OS provides and the iMac is competing with a machine that has mobile features as well. Combine this with the fact that companies (which the professional market works for) goes with the cheaper product, and it puts Apple in a difficult position.

I think this is a mistake both from a consumer and business point of view, but who am to tell the most valuable company in the world (for now) how to run a business![]()
Different strokes for different folksApple should never do a touch screen iMac, it would be ridiculous. The Mac is way better as a point and click machine, Apple have said that they did test a touch screen Mac and even had working models but they decided against it because the experience wasn't good. So no I don't think they will do a touch screen Mac which I'm glad.
So who else is dreading the "butterfly keyboard" for the iMac?
