Costco has it for $799 right now. And they will give you a $100 off coupon code if you ask for one. They sent them out to certain customers and I didn't get one but I asked through the chat and got it. I'm on the fence now for $949 for the 2021 or $699 for the 2020 version. Tough choice.
Originally I had no intention of upgrading my iPad 10.5" pro knowing I would also want the keyboard. However, with the COSTCO deal plus Walmart/Amazon had the magic keyboard at $199 (still expensive but much better than $299), I couldn't resist.

Definitely upgraded. I ordered the 12.9” iPad Pro 1TB with Apple Pencil and the white magic keyboard. Totally worth it I think.

My 10.5 IPad Pro is still a great tablet. Fast and stable. It’s just my eyes are failing me and I needed something bigger in terms of screen real estate. Plus being able to get a good trade in value was what pushed me into going for the 2021 12.9. Hopefully it turns out to be a good decision.

im going for the 12.9 inch pro. Ive never had a 12.9 inch before. I saw and tried a 2020 in retailer store shortly before preordering. it was a on a table, and looked pretty decent, while in turn the 11 looked small.

ive had a 2017 for almost 2 years now. After almost one year, i got it replaced due to white spots.
never again. i have a creeping fear that this one might get it too. at the same time, i recently got a job, soooo yea.

I had the cash ready.

also, theres the storage problem. Since i like to download stuff, ive hit the 64gb ceiling too many times.
I spent more time thinking about what colour to choose that the storage. The price leap from 128 to 256 is cheap compared to the 500~gb version.

i shouldnt have trouble now. since im a heavy multimedia user with a tiny bit of drawing here and then, a better display is a godsend. only annoyances was having to get adapters for headphones and the likes, but it should work. Ive also got my cases and engraved apple pencil ready. I didnt really need the apple pencil as such, but its a nice luxury to have for potential note taking besides drawing.

lastly theres the processing power and ram which i find i have experiencee a bit of lag of. This happens when implay a heavy game and open up a safari slide tab at the same time. limitation was annoying.

tldr:
Better screen, better storage, better processor, no white spots and hopefully better longevity.

Sold my Air 4 and am going to either trade in my current 10.5 for a M1 11" or trade it in for a 8th gen. Just waiting till its actually available to get in stores which might take a while. Anyone else gonna try and trade in store? For 10.5 owners if you trade in its basically $519 pretty good deal.

Ultimately I just want a great screen and battery life 😇

As can be seen from the screenshot below, the page crashes on my 2017 Pro 12.9. I’m gonna need to restart so it can load.

Ugh, webpages have gotten so bloated. I really hate pages with animations like this one.

On a somewhat related note, I checked out these animation heavy product pages and they all load buttery smooth on an M1 Macbook Air, it's beautiful, lol

I still love my 10.5" Pro. I bought it new and sealed for a great price in 2020 and got it replaced just a few days before expiration of waranty in January due to a bright spot. I hadn't bothered me thaaat much, but Apple deserved it and now I have an almost new unit with fresh battery. A10X + 4GB Ram is still more than powerful enough for most tasks, including Procreate. The bezels are also small enough, I still have OIS (unlike the 2018) and a headphone jack. I can live with a smartphone and bluetooth speakers, but for a tablet I am using at home, I want to use my wired headphones without silly adapter. Killing the port for the sake of a bending skinny device was really dumb.

The newer Pros are too expensive for me. A12Z, M1 or whatever, I don't care - diminishing returns. For truly professional work, I rather work with a proper OS on Macbook or Desktop. Should I upgrade my beloved 10.5" in 1-2 years, then I will go for the Air 4 instead. It is Pro enough for me. I can even live without 120Hz: Deactivated it on mine to test it and indeed, the difference is not that massive. I dont read text while scrolling.

Upgrading from a 10.5 to the 12.9. I have been thinking about getting a larger one for a while since I read a lot of PDFs and my eyes are getting older. The larger one should be closer to actual size.

Since they did a big refresh just as I was thinking about getting one, it was a perfect time to jump.

I‘ve had a similar experience to you here in Japan with the 10.5”. Great price on a ‘new’ refurbished in 2019 and everything I still need even in 2021 in an iPad, but unfortunately I had touch response and white spot issues that showed up just as the warranty was expiring, and with the Corona problem and APPLE store closing couldn’t address these issues personally. They gave me a replacement when I did visit (for the white spot since APPLE doesn’t acknowledge the touch issue many have), and I’d hoped all was well.

No white spots yet on this unit, but the touch response problem (again) is really frustrating, and being out of warranty, and APPLE saying the the replacement was a one-time-thing, its time to move on. Can only really type with my external magic keyboard as I’m doing now. So, I’ve ordered an iPad Pro 11” 512GB and trading in the 10.5” will soften the expense a bit, and do somethings I hope (with iOS 15) that will make work a bit easier. But I will have to also invest in some wireless headphones!

Awww damn, that sucks!
No issues here so far. My first device was also okay in terms of touch. Also drawing is working nicely.
But yeah, I might sell it before new issues arise. If these guys had just made the unit 0.5mm thicker and more reliable... leaving that apart, it is still a great unit. Comparable to the 2015 MBP.

Happy as can be with a half terabyte 10.5” A10X iPad that has Checkra1n for life & the 3.5mm Jack for superior audio compared to any iPad Pro released afterwards. I see zero reason to upgrade, because there is nothing the newer iPads can do with video editing, Lightroom and browsing that the A10X cannot do.

The A12X/Z & M1 are just faster & has more RAM, but that simply means a faster UI & not more features. I don’t care about camera on an iPad Pro... I shoot full frame cameras that render 42 megapixels. Everything can be edited and done on a 512 GB 2017 iPad Pro & I can still use the 3.5 mm jack to provide the highest quality audio experience with a $1800 setup.

Apple is beyond arrogant and stupid to take away the 3.5mm jack from iPad Pro. People are going to be using a MiniLED screen with crappy audio quality for headphones. Massive step backwards IMO.

Wireless headphones have crappy sound quality and are limited to 250kbps. When you watch anything on an iPad with Bluetooth, there is a latency issue with audio delay hitting you ears after the lips moved on screen. It makes me want to throw any of the newer iPad Pros into a trashcan because there is no way to correct that audio delay across all Apps. On VLC you can adjust it a little bit to correct it however.

The A10X 2017 iPad Pro is the last iPad to deliver good audio quality to the end user.

You get to hear more detail and notes on $20 Apple 3.5mm headphones when compared to $550 AirPod Pro Max headphones, and I smile when I see anyone with those headphones, because as P.T. Barnum said, “There is a sucker born every minute”.

Going from a 10.5 to a 12.9/ 256. Very curious how layers will be in Procreate. That will hopefully be a game changer.
Looking into a Brydge keyboard eventually.

Yes, it is one of the reasons I got the 10.5" even after the newer 11" was out, that headphone jack paired with my Master & Dynamic wired earphones. But, I just don't have a choice now with the touch issues (short of rolling the dice on another used 10.5"). I'm going to have to deal with Bluetooth and hope there is [maybe] a software solution coming with an iOS update. As it is, I wouldn't have to fumble around with a cord while out and about, or maybe just an adapter till I get some decent Bluetooth earphones. I've been avoiding Bluetooth for sound all these years, so I'm kind of in the dark about what the experience will be like.

Ha! We must be on the same APPLE old-school wave... I've got an MBP 15" 16GB 1TB 2015 in front of me typing. It's not the latest or greatest anymore, but a 'classic' (if computers can get that way ;-), and just works.
