I’ve been on the fence of upgrading to an M1 MBA, primarily because the battery life of my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 just isn’t getting me through the day, but they made enough changes to the new iPad Pro to make me upgrade to it and I’ll trade in my current 2018 model to take some of the sting out of the purchase. I‘ve loved using the iPad Pro for the past 2+ years - it’s a great work and play device and this new version should improve both use cases further.

Yes - I am currently on an early 2020 Intel MacBook Air and a 2018 Ipad Pro... I currently use them together to work from one when I do (I also have a basic iPad for portability).

1) It seems like a 1TB iPad Pro 2021 will future proof it for several years and will upgrade the experience on my IPad noticeably
2) If I get the 1TB iPad Pro, I can probably just get a base model MacBook Air M1 to complement it. I won’t need to max out my MacBook Air (I could go with a 512/8GB config, or even a 256GB/16GB config).

Will wait until June/October to see what the software improvements are. If they are decent then yes, I will definitely be upgrading to take advantage of all this power. But I’ve done that three times before and am still waiting for the software improvements, this time I’m waiting.

I have no reason to upgrade other than excitement...
I don't use the iPad as a laptop replacement anyway, I work on Windows
I just replaced the battery on my 2015 12.9 which is still snappy and I bought a 2018 1 TB cellular 11 pro with Apple care at almost half the price....
If iPadOS 15 comes with big improvements I'll wait for prices of the 1TB 12.9 to go down, maybe next year or when the following generation comes out and the previous one is discounted

I really do not want to spend the money, but dang they announced a lot of cool stuff today.
Did they?

I admit that I got sucked into the keynote hype but now that I have control of my brain again then I’m starting to lean on this being... disappointing?

Same Pencil 2
Same Design
Same non-foldable Magic Keyboard
Same outdated OS
Same missing apps

Dont get me wrong. I absolutely love my current Pro11 w/MK and I’m jealous of M1, Center Stage cam and.. (i cant think of a 3rd thing) so in the end then upgrading to this would change nothing. Maybe if it came in purple.. :D

2017 owner, 12.9 cellular - nope, not yet. Will wait to see the software improvements that are done to take advantage of the new hardware.

Looking forward to seeing things open up with thunderbolt for sure though.

I was seriously considering it, but now that the new iPad Pro specs have been revealed I'm going to wait because I want to see exactly what Apple has up their sleeves for the next version of iPadOS before I buy in. That's a lot of powerful hardware for something that runs happily on 8 year old devices, but if they don't bother doing anything new with the software to take advantage of it I will just look at one of the older model they're selling and save the cash.

It’s not for me. The apps I use my 2018 iPad Pro 11” for are running perfectly well and having an M1 chip wouldn’t really change that. The apps I run on my MacBook Pro aren’t available on the iPad (yet) so there’s no benefit for me (unless I want to go up to the 12.9”).

Yep, i'll trade in an old one and grab this. Veterans discount knocks off 200. Verizon gives another 200 back. I'm a sucker for screen improvements and finally you can view HDR content on an ipad.

2020 Pro 11” owner here - nope.

Firstly, only the smaller sized Pro fits me and my needs, secondly, in that case, the other upgrades are M1 chip (this is great, but the A12z is still meeting my needs fine), 5G (dont use cellular on iPad), and the ultra wide-selfie camera (no use for me). The MINI-LED display would’ve actually been a point of interest for me in having new screen technology, but this is exclusive to the larger 12.9 model which is a no-go for me.

Will be keeping mine well into the future

Yes. I'm going to trade in my 2018 12.9 for the new one, and get the $150 off ATT deal. It's expensive but: "Out with the old, in with the new". as they say.

I also need an 11" but I may wait. Frankly, I find it odd they didn't go for a complete update to that one, in spite of all the buzz suggesting that.

LumaFusion, Procreate, Photoshop, etc... what do you mean by missing apps? Same goes for the OS being "outdated"
I smashed the like button on KK's post because I can relate to the sentiment.

I was excited about USB-C when the 2018's came out but didn't bite because the file and drive management on these iPads is short of what can be done on MacOS or Windows (drive management, working completely on external storage, reliable file management with proper status indicators etc.). The pandemic has provided some relief in my need to do such activities and in that time there has been improvements in some areas. My excitement is now refreshed with the move to Thunderbolt but I still have some concerns about the software side of things, particularly with the Files app.
