I’m either going to get a new 11” iPad Pro + White Magic Keyboard or do nothing iPad-related. Additional weight of the new 12.9” counteracts some of its improvements IMO, and I don’t need M1-style performance in an iPad.

Still trying to figure out what the ‘perfect’ tech lineup for my lifestyle is - I really want to incorporate the new iMac, because I adore it, which probably means I stick with my 12.9” iPP and forego the MBP? But I know I’m also going to want the 16” MBP this fall, so..... lol.

Won’t be upgrading my 2020 11” since it does everything I want well. I may add 12.9” to replace my 1st gen 12.9”, but haven’t really touched it since getting the 11”.

I have a 2018 iPad Pro 12.9". I love the iPad and would upgrade but I don't see a reason to to be honest. I'm not sure what the new iPad has that my current one doesn't. It's faster for sure, but I can't run xcode or use multiple monitors on it so I don't really need that.

I have a iPad Air 3 and the new iPad Pro is killer in terms of hardware. I don’t need “need” one but I am excited to see if Apple takes advantage of this new hardware with iPad OS 15 . If I could get Final Cut and a version fo Lightroom closer to the classic edition and better multi window/ multi tasking I’d get one. Right now it’s the software holding back the iPad for me. I’m hoping that will change sooner than later.

Do you think that might finally change now? They are actually announcing RAM options for this. Could it be that we now have a development machine in the iPad Pro 2021?

I have decide to order the new iPad Pro. I already have the 2018 model but no Wi-Fi 6. The 2021 iPad Pro has Wi-Fi 6, M1, 8GB RAM. I going go for the entry model this time around however, $799.00. I guess I have to order tomorrow? Was saving it for iPad Mini 6 upgrade but nothing was released yet.

My 1st gen 12.9” is still going strong after nearly 5 years. It does everything it needs to and is still very snappy. My main use is note taking, drawing diagrams and some browsing. iPadOS will need some huge improvements to extend the use cases for me to spend €1200+ euros on the new M1 based model. It really should be enabled to run MacOS. In that case I’d buy one immediately.

Not right now. (IPP 2020 12.9" owner)

My big ask was for multi screen support (and landscape camera) and iPadOS changes. If this new IPP gets multi screen support (via Thunderbolt) then I would, even tho the camera is still in the wrong place! The 16gb option is interesting in terms of "I wonder what they can do with that?" but not that I need it as I have not hit ram issues on my IPP.

So I will hold station and see if there are any updates that use the thunderbolt port or ram bump, the rest of the changes do not tick any requirements I have.

I'm still on the 2018 iPad Pro. I had a trade in lined up last week for £750 for my iPad thinking I'd jump on the new one.
It will still cost me another 1k to do the upgrade- so not sure it's worth it.

I was holding out to see Final Cut on the new iPads. This would be the killer app for me. Otherwise I dont think the new ones do anything better (ok - yes faster) than what I already have.

Seeing them show Lumafusion on all their marketing and promo stuff I am not hopeful FCP is coming to the iPad anytime soon BUT the ability to jump from the iPad to desktop even if it's using a thunderbolt 3 SSD as a scratch drive.

At the moment the price is a little too much to bear without knowing even a hint it would work with the Apple pro apps. I wont get the trade in value by WWDC but then it could be Xmas before anything announced at WWDC appears.

May never happen of course.

If Mac/Pro apps come to iPad, it will be at WWDC when they announce iPadOS 15. I'm thinking they will because of the 8GB/16GB RAM options. But hoping they will also come to the 6GB RAM options which will be 2020 iPP and 2018 1TB version.

Personally, I think anyone with a 2020/2018 iPad Pro may be screaming come WWDC, I can imagine it will go something like...

‘These are all the fantastic features in iPadOS 15, and for those with our newly released M1 iPad Pro, you will also have this, that and the other great features, thanks to our super powered M1 chip which makes your iPad just as powerful as your Mac...’

Apple will 100% use iPadOS 15 as a major push for people to upgrade to the 2021 Pro’s.

They might do that but I doubt it. They tend to try and give as many iPads as possible the same features as we've seen in previous years. Also I remember reading last year when it was rumored that Pro apps like FCP would come to iPad that the RAM was an issue. Only the 6GB RAM models were running the apps in testing. So I have a feeling any features like that would only be for the 2018 1TB version, 2020 & 2021 iPP models. Then again maybe Apple delayed it all til this year because they figured out how to make it work with 4GB Ram which then would include all 2018, plus 2020 iPad Air. Which I can see happening.
But they tend to try and give as many iPads as possible the new features. I can see them limiting Mac Apps to 2020 or 2018 and above though. But I doubt they would leave a 1 year old iPad in the dust that quickly. You would really make people rethink buying iPad Pro's going forward and hurt your sales.

Yeah I agree but I can see something being headlined that only M1 iPads are capable of doing 100% it might only be 1 ‘ground breaking’ feature with the other iPads in the line up being capable of everything else.

That way it won’t harm sales and it will likely be a feature which is more geared for the pro user anyway.

Watching the presentation, I was like, oh yeah! Definitely getting one. Then I checked the prices......so, maybe not. ? Now I have to decide if I want to spend that kind of cash when my 2018 12.9” works perfectly fine and my Pad and Quill leather case is nicely broken in at this point. I do have a $300. Gift card at Apple and could trade my current IPP in, which would definitely take the sting out so it is tempting to go through with getting one. Having these credits actually make the decision a little harder.

decisions, decisions....

My 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 is probably my favourite Apple product ever. The 2021 is quite exciting with the technical improvements, but it really won't change how I use mine day to day.
Yeah that’s how I feel. I was seriously considering upgrading just because i want cellular and a little more storage than what I chose when I bought this one. But, weirdly, the amazing presentation yesterday turned me off because basically none of the stuff they described seems like it will make a difference for my use case. It just made it feel like it would be such overkill to upgrade when I loooooooove my current 12.9 and it is basically perfect.

Same here with the 2018 12.9 Pro. I didn't see anything that would improve my current experience such that it would justify the upgrade cost.

2018 11" owner upgrading to 2021 11". I'm glad to see the upgrades it did get without any changes to pricing. I'm just not sure the new display tech would have been worth the cost of the upgrade on the smaller model (or a touchscreen device at all for that matter). Macbook Pro and/or the 30/32" iMac sure - sign me up. But not on a 11" tablet, and certainly not for $100 more. Mine is rarely what I would call "clean". I'm sure the smudges and flecks of dirt and whatnot would negatively affect the dimming zones. :)

My 2018 iPad Pro 11" is my favorite tech purchase of the past few years. I use it constantly, though really more for entertainment than for work - a little bit for work. So it probably is overkill for my usage scenario, but I love it anyways. When I bought it I was super torn over whether to get the 11" or the 12.9" though.. in an ideal world, I thought a 12.9" with an updated, screen only (no home button) iPad mini would be perfect, but that hasn't happened yet. I think I may add a 12.9" iPad Pro now because I want the larger screen, but it probably is a very unnecessary purchase. Maybe I can leave one at the office and one at home (and that way my still remote-learning child can use it for homework and such), but it really is more about "want" than "need" for sure.

Like many others, the main update I wanted is for FaceTime/Zoom to look proper in landscape mode. I can't quite figure out if the new wide angle will resolve that issue. If it does, that may make the purchase worthwhile as I find it really frustrating that I can't use Zoom while my iPad is in the position it is in 99% of the time - attached to the keyboard in landscape mode.

Apple will give me $535 in trade-in value for my 2019 12.9-inch iPad Pro. That will be lower come next lineup refresh. Do I trade it in for the new model (that seems like a fair value) or keep the one I have and trade-in at a later refresh?

Are the changes enough to justify the dollar difference outlay? That's the question only you can answer.

Nope, it's just a speed bump and a screen upgrade. Until they make big changes to the OS/apps, there really isn't a ton of use for this much power. I'll keep my 2018 11 inch for the foreseeable future. If at WWDC, they announce a dual boot option for macOS, you might get me buying.

2018 12.9 with LTE and 1TB still good enough for me. Besides, I won't have the money to spend on an iPad after I order my new iMac ?
