I have the 2017 Pro and it’s a no for me until either apple or a third party via JB or not makes it possible for full fledged Mac OS to be run on the iPad. Thereby allowing the iPad to serve as both a tablet and a touchscreen notebook.

s anyone considering getting the 1TB for the 16GB RAM? Would this future proof for a couple of years?

2020 12.9 1tb cellular model, this iPad is a beast, it is my main device, I record music, run our Shopify business, dabble in some video editing, web surfing, emailing, call of duty playing…. It’s a great device…. I have been hoping for Logic Pro for the iPad, and I am sure it’s coming, but hoping they don’t make it exclusive for the M1 iPads, which being Apple, they may very well do…. That would probably be the main reason for me to upgrade to the M1 iPad. So I ll wait until WWDC and see what they have planned, until then, I love my iPad.

I did; I seriously considered it, however with the certainty unknown (only assumed/speculated at this point) of software being able to utilize 16GB, I didn't think the difference justified the cost. $1199 (256GB wifi) versus $1799 (1TB wifi) = $600 dollar + tax difference. 8GB RAM is already double what my 2018 iPP has.

I have the iPad 12.9 4th generation and feel no desire to upgrade. Does everything I need it to do. I have zero FOMO with it. :)
If I had a 2018 or 2020, I wouldn’t consider upgrading either, not with my usage. I can see some doing it, but their usage is different than mine, I suspect.

From 2018, maybe. I would've had 3 years to save up and 5G is a draw for me since I've been getting super crappy speeds on LTE of late. The 16GB RAM might be enticing, too, albeit likely less so coming from 6GB RAM compared to 4GB on older Pros. I've run into situations where the 4GB has really frustrated me. While the 6GB does reload, it hasn't been as bad as 4GB.

From 2020, nope. That's way too soon for another $2K expenditure.

I have a 2017 256GB 10.5" Ipad Pro, and even I do not see a good reason to update.
I have the same, except I have the white spot that seems to be an issue with this size (not to mention the front camera is damaged, thanks to my running over my computer bag a couple of years ago with the iPad in the side pocket). I‘ve wanted a 12.9” for awhile and was waiting for the 12.9 gen 4 successor to come out. I’ve been pretty indecisive at what to move to, considering that I plan to keep it for five years. As rui no onna has pointed out to me, it’s hard to update to what is virtually three-year-old tech with several years of usage in view. If I already had a 12.9” of any iteration, I’m not sure that I would lay out the money for the latest.

The big draw with the new 12.9” is the new display. That’s why I think an upgrade from a 2017 12.9 to a 2021 makes more sense than a 2017 10.5 to a 2021 11.

If 2022 11” iPad Pro gets a mini led display, that’d be the worthwhile upgrade from 2017.

What 5G modem does the 2021 IPad Pro have? The x55? If 2022 gets the x60, that’d also be a big draw.

Coming from an 18 12.9 pro I don’t think I want to upgrade yet. Furthermore idk if I want my next ipad to be an 11” or 12.9”.
