I will upgrade at some point, but really want to see what is announced at the dev conference first. If something that can actually use it is announce I'll probably jump on it. If not, eventually I'll upgrade and pass my 2018 to the family.

I have the 2018 11” IPP and have really switched to this being my primary home machine, i barely turn on my 2017 mbp anymore and only use my iMac for steam games and a couple of apps that don’t do as well on my ipp. I just pre-ordered the 12.9 1t … I am hoping for big new changes in iPadOS and that this will be a worthy 4 year investment. Here’s to hoping for more exciting updates in June. Either way, i can’t really say anything bad as i think it’ll be a decent upgrade regardless. I am really enticed by the potential to replace my older iMac with just a monitor and move to ipp as the core machine, gaming is getting better in arcade and there have been some premium releases in the App Store; that said gaming is less and less important to me as i get older ;-)

Upgrading my 2018 11” to the M1 12.9”.

I’m ready for the increase in screen size baby!
Great on ya! You might initially be overwhelmed by the sheer size of the screen on a table, but you will quickly get used to it. In no time, you will be wondering just how you got any work done on the 11 inch model, especially when it comes to split screens and multi-tasking in general :)

I’d really like to extend my display when connecting my iPad Pro to an external monitor. Mirroring the display doesn’t help me at all. If they allowed me to use an external display as a true second monitor, I’d upgrade from my 2020 iPad Pro instantly. With the power of the M1, that shouldn’t be an issue anymore.

Im gonna keep my 11 inch pro 2018 1 tb for 2 more years(The one To bring To work and vacations) while picking up a 12 inch mini LEd model 16 gb ram model by end of This year to potentially stay current. I need to see if the first batches will have defects which is the typical way I do Things before buying new apple products.

Upgrade-itis/GAS is real.

That said, I am resisting the urge to upgrade. I have both the 12.9" and 11" 2020 iPad Pro models, and I bought them not at release but later into 2020.

I use them both extensively. The 12.9" I "need" as one of my use cases is for reading sheet music, and the 11" is just too small for that.

The 11", I really love the portability of that size. I don't "need" that one per-se, but it's getting a lot of use around the house. I used it for working out, relaxing, etc.

Though the new stuff is definitely enticing, at the end of the day I need to think about what I'm using the iPad for. If I upgrade one or both iPad's, is my usage going to change? No. Even if "pro" type apps like Final Cut were to come to the iPad, would I start editing video on my iPad? I don't see it. I have a nice laptop for that which has a much better OS to support those workflows. Everyone is different, but for me, my iPad's do what I need (and will so, for years to come).

So that's my story I'm telling myself to avoid paying $1000 or more to upgrade. Maybe in 2 years!

I think if I had gotten the 2020 last year, I wouldn't upgrade now either. However, I would be totally regretting that choice if I had.

Thankfully, the 2017 Pro (while getting long in the tooth) still served my needs fairly decently so I was able to wait for a more significant upgrade. I don't bother with resale/trade-ins so cost to replace the 2017 model is very close anyway whether I had upgraded to the 2020 Pro last year or the 2021 Pro this year.

I use my 2018 iPad Pro 11 (64 GB, WiFi) for almost all my casual computing (web, email, video, etc), and as a Roon controller. My MacBook Pro rarely leaves my office desk.

I don't need to upgrade, but I'm thinking about it anyway, since I can get an instant credit for it that's 70% what I paid to begin with. If so I plan to get the new 12.9" 128GB, WiFi.

My case is very similar. I went back and forth on the sizes back when the 2018 Pros came out and finally settled on the 11 inch because I had a 13” MBP. However, I’ve since upgraded to a beautiful 27” iMac. (I thought about waiting for the M-chip, but I needed it now, and I don’t regret it at all, especially since Apple hasn’t updated the 27” inch yet.)

Anyway, if Apple will give me that much of a credit on my trade-in, I just might pull the trigger on a 128 GB 12.9. I have the education discount, and I have a $200 gift card that‘s coming my way.

The problem is that I use my iPP everyday; I don’t want to trade it in now and have to wait until July to get the new model. I’ve got several older iPads around, but as most of you know, when you go Pro, it’s hard to go back.

If you do the trade-in, does anyone know if you have to do it immediately?

2018 12.9" SG 256GB here and absolutely jumped at the opportunity to have a better screen. The screen, while a very capable screen already on the iPads have always left me wanting just a bit better. The new display on the 2021 seems to fit the bill, plus double the RAM from 4 to 8GB, and so my 2018 will get replaced. 5/21-5/28 ship/delivery date for my 12.9" SG 256GB Wifi. Debated on getting 512GB, but currently still have 90GB free, so opted to stick with my current storage capacity.

Selling IPP 12.9 2018 while it still has 50% residual value and ordered IPP 12.9 2021. M1 and screen improvement motivated me to upgrade.

No idea but does anyone know which iPads depreciate most? Like WiFi or Cellular, or storage size? I mean, if you buy now would you lose more money if selling a 256GB or 1TB iPad? WiFi or Cellular?

High storage depreciates a lot.
A few days ago I made a example from ebay, same seller. 64GB 11 pro 2018 pro was sold at a $175 discount ($625) in very good condition, 2018 11in pro 1TB was sold at over $600 discount in pristine condition (something like $935)
