After thinking about it, I’m not so sure.

I know for my workflow, I cannot replace my laptop with an iPad. I use a MacBook to log into work remotely, and also some personal stuff. I use my iPad Pro for work occasionally (usually work IOS apps, video calls, and a companion screen), but mainly for personal. I have a regular iPad that is basically my “bag” computer (it is durable, relatively inexpensive, and I like the Smart Keyboard attachment for quick stuff like typing this post).

Since I got my MacBook Air, I use it and my small iPad the most. I think the biggest upgrade I could make this year would be to a M1 MacBook Air. I don’t have that much interest in a more expensive, larger 14” MacBook Pro. The main improvement would be no fan when using Zoom/WebEx, but beyond that, my Intel MacBook Air works fine.

This iPad Pro seems great, but I did a spec comparison, and I am 100% sure I will see no difference in performance between by 2018 iPad Pro and this 2021 iPad Pro in daily use. That makes it seem like a poor buy. Upgrading would future proof it, but it would probably cost me $2,000 all in even with a trade in, which seems like a lot of money for an iPad Pro. I can get an 8GB MacBook Air from Amazon for $1,149 right now. I was originally thinking about the 1 TB, 16GB RAM version, but honestly I am not sure why I would need that kind of power on an iPad when most people say 8GB Of RAM on a M1 MacBook Air is fine.

No. iPad Pro 2020 is more than powerful enough for my needs. 11” model has the same display.

The Magic Keyboard was my iPad’s big 2021 upgrade. I’m really surprised by how much I love and use this thing.

The said, M1 is definitely an exciting direction for the iPad and I will switch in heartbeat down the road if and when it can run full desktop versions of Photoshop + Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw, which I believe are already optimized for M1. Add Final Cut Pro to the equation and I’d probably say goodbye to the MacBook.

A lot of people say that MacOS is not a touch screen inteface. However with a Magic Keyboard that doesnt become an issue.

2020 iPad Pro user here, the current cpu we have is designed in house by Apple as well? Unless iOS 15 has some unique feature for 2021 iPad Pro, I don’t see I will be upgrading.

No lag at all with my current iPad

Exactly. Some UI modifications could make things more touch friendly, but a simple pop-up the first time you use the app that says the experience is best with a trackpad or mouse might be sufficient (assuming it works very well on the iPad with a trackpad or mouse the same way it does on the desktop). I think most people who would be regularly running full versions of Photoshop or Final Cut on the iPad would be using one or the other.

After looking at the iPad Pro 2021 I am most likely resisting and keeping my iPad Pro 2018 which is still going strong.

The three big things I’d want are FaceID in landscape mode (basically for it to unlock when I’m laying down), better battery life (since the Magic Keyboard drains it a bit faster), and faster charging. It does not seem to have any of those 3 things and those reasons are just minor quibbles with the iPad. I guess it’s just one of those products you just keep for years and years and years.

2018 11" IPP that I will be updating to the 2021 11", though I'm disappointed that it won't have the new screen.

I’m strongly considering it. I’m hoping to see some comparison reviews on the differences. I’m anticipating a HUGE iPadOS update this year to justify putting this much power and storage into it. I’m hoping it means Final Cut Pro for it.

With tablet sales continuing to decline, the M1 ver might be enough to change that, IF, IMHO, the M1 ver gets an exclusive killer app, such as full Photoshop. It should be very possible.

If that happens, it is over for the current IPP, and all other tablets.

Win-win for Apple, they get to sell a shed-load of new tablets and Adobe gets to raise subscription fees.

Without a killer (desktop) app, this upgrade will simply be...meh.

Haven’t even come close to pushing the limits of my 2020 12.9” iPad Pro. I would rather save my money for a new iPad Mini if they update it this year. (And I could probably buy a new iPad Mini with the price difference between a 2021 iPad Pro and the resale value of my 2020 one.)

2018 12.9 iPad Pro 256gb here. I’m thinking about upgrading but will wait for WWDC to see what’s in store for iPadOS 15.

A game plan is starting to percolate in my brain. Dump everything, and devote my money to The M1.

Air-gone, iPP 2019-gone (ok, need my phone). Other stuff-gone. .....

2018 12.9 iPad Pro 256gb, been using it 8h per day in average as my main computer. Finally time to upgrade it.

It has worked great as a laptop replacement, but the magic keyboard is a bit heavy sometimes. I kind of miss the old smartfolio.

My ”old” iPad Pro will go to my mother, she will be happy to ”downgrade” her newer 2019 iPad mini.

Same as others. I like the 2018 11 in pro with pencil. Content consumption and using my workout calendar to writing notes for work. So a 12.9 in 2021 pro would not change anything.
We are interested in the m1 mba and to the base iMac 2021. So likely buying those two.
