Emotional seeing Fernando bid farewell, what an awesome driver he’s been over the years. I do feel robbed in that we didn’t get to see him fighting for championships as often as he deserved but he leaves as one of the very best of this generation.

Win the Indy 500 please and join Graham in the history books!

Wow what a race! Because they aren’t bothered anymore all the gloves are off!

That Renault crash was lucky as they said the halo makes it difficult to get the driver out, and it was on fire! But I loved the drivers response to his team ******* hanging like a cow! Lol...

Fantastic fast work by the stewards and staff!

Maxy ramming Ocon, dear oh dear, he was angry today!

And poor Kimi, with his car basically giving up.

I fancy Eclair next year, because he’s driving for Ferrari right? Anyone else? I think he may be a hungry driver out to win next year?

I fancy putting my bet on Max and Eclair next year.
Vettel said something about joining Alonso sooner rather than later. Sounds like he’s had enough of playing second fiddle to Lewis. If Le Clare out performs him, don’t expect him to be there in 2020.

Sainz, LeClerc, Hulkenberg are who I'm rooting for next year.

Interesting take. I know he loves F1.. he might be the biggest fan of the sport out of all the drivers but if Leclerc does indeed outperform him next year, I don’t know what could possibly be next for Vettel.

Interesting.. wouldn’t blame him. I think Nico had the best idea, win it then quit, although having your first child born whilst racing the F1 calendar helps with that decision I’d imagine.
I bet Lewis quits before the big rule changes come in, which are 2020, 2021? I can’t see him wanting to race when he’ll have to race harder and prove his skill more. But we’ll see.

Yeap, should be a good one hopefully.

I think Lewis will stick around for as long as his car is competitive. The same way as Alonso wouldn’t be off if Mclaren were at the top of there game.

If Lewis wins next year (and that’s a big if), I think the 7th will seem a very appealing challenge.

But I think he’s enjoying himself. Mercedes let him do his other projects, so why not carry on. Your a long time retired.

Yup.

And I agree on Alonso, he wouldn't be going anywhere if he had a chance to win.

Funny the things they say.. the best team radio talk from yesterday’s race:

I love those videos. They were doing the driver briefings with Charlie earlier which were genuinely like an episode of the Office (complete with zooming on Grosjean looking non-plussed) but they seemed to have stopped those.

To round up news Alban has been confirmed as STR driver for next year, and Pirelli have been confirmed as ongoing suppliers.

I'm just relieved it's all over.

No live races on terestrial TV in the UK next year will limit the amount of time I waste to just highlights, and even then I suspect I'll be little more than a casual viewer unless the winter changes improve the racing.

RIP F1 :(

I think despite being a casual viewer for a few years now my following will likely cease now it’s not on TV anymore. Sad times but all sport gets greedy in the end.

I’ll stick with it. Highlights on channel 4 will do. I suspect live races will return when the viewing numbers dwindle.
I highly doubt that. MotoGP went from having over a million viewers to less than a 100k at one point but as long as the sport are paid for the TV rights, they don’t care whether anybody is watching or not. Remember cricket? The 2005 Ashes had a draw of around 4 million viewers which boosted the sport in this country with cricket clubs around the country reporting a surge in interest from young people. What did they do off the back of the popularity? Sold it to Sky who reduced that figure down to 60k and it’s fallen lower since.

Formula 1 was regularly pulling between 5 and 7 million viewers between 2009 and 2011. Sky are lucky to attract 800k these days with Channel 4 making up the lions share of British viewers. Now it’s off FTA, expect another fall. They’ve literally killed F1 as a popular sport in this country and all for a few million pounds in TV revenue. It’s sad really as Lewis Hamilton has just won his fifth world title and very few people really care anymore. The rugby has been talked about more during this period.

Lol not in my office. We all follow F1. Never talked Rugby.
I think when the sponsors start pulling out, F1 will find its way back on to live TV.
We still get the British Grand Prix live btw.

My office was all F1 talk but none of us follow it closely anymore. I often say ‘did anybody watch the race’ and the answer is usually no but they know the result. I grew up in an F1 town and a lot of my old mates who went to GP’s with me have long since stopped following it. I have a good mate who works for Mercedes in Brackley and he hates talking about it when we meet down the pub lol.

I think you’ll find sponsors associated with pay per view will come in as they are already and teams higher up the grid are less reliant on sponsorship much like McLaren and have been for some years now. Unfortunately when the tobacco companies departed the money started to reduce. Cable and satellite tv companies are the quick and easy cash cow. Sadly viewers aren’t as important as they used to be.

Out of 25 in the office, 6 watch it religiously. I think that’s quite a high %. But obviously that’s just where we are. Other offices will have rugby or cricket fans.

But I’ve followed F1 all my life. That’s not going to change any time soon.
Roll on March!

Like yourself I’ve followed it all my life but maybe the difference is like myself my colleagues all have young children. I haven’t watched an entire F1 season for 5 years now due to not being able to dedicate a Sunday to it and relegating my family in favour. Ya been made easier by it disappearing off TV for half the season too lol.

I’ll admit when there were like 12 races a year, it was less obtrusive to family life.
But I don’t really have to worry about family these days!

Stroll confirmed to F1. In other news I am the new CEO of Apple as my dad just bought them! :p

See I do talk about Apple sometimes on an Apple rumours website, even if most of my posts are F1 themed!

If you dad just bought Apple you must have some wedge!

As for Stroll confirmed at Force India, well I think that’s the worst kept secret in F1!

I think that’s fair. If only I had Apple money - MacRumors Williams Mercedes would become a reality.

BTW thought some people might like this season review. The guy who does it does some interesting technical explanations and some of them Autosport commission. It’s long (about an hour), a little sweary and has a distinctive British sense of humour but I enjoyed it..

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Just wanted to say a big thanks to the posters here :) a good bunch with lots of arguments and drama over the season. It’s been enjoyable chatting to you all and helped make the season more fun.
Which will continue next year I’ve no doubt...

Happy Christmas and New Year to you all :)

On a side note, the main changes next year are as previously shown and all about the aero, let’s hope it helps with more exciting and regular overtaking, hopefully without them (Max) ramming into the other driver :D

Actually I wonder what the value of broken parts is this year? Wonder if it’s enough to buy one of their super yachts?

Yeah, we have Sky, and whilst their coverage is fantastic, despite Brundle being annoying sometimes, it is bad that they have effectively taken full control of F1 in the U.K. you’d have thought considering nearly all the teams are based in the U.K., it would give some leverage for Channel 4 or another terrestrial Chanel to still have rights to show the races.
Personally if it was down to me, which in my house it isn’t, I would have Now TV and buy a day pass to watch the races. If you use their stick or box it still allows you to live pause up to 30 mins too, and they are thankfully cheap enough to buy. I would rather do this then have full Sky.

I have a Now TV box. I might subscribe for some races.
Otherwise it’s highlights on Ch 4 for me.
