I think that’s right. If Apple determines the iPad is defective (within one year period), they can exchange it and it might be a refurbished one (no matter where you bought it). Whether new or refurbished was never clear to me, but I understand it could be either.
Yeah, that's about what I understood also, there is no way to tell for sure beforehand what you will get as replacement. I guess it depends on what they have in their service stock. Maybe if refurbished are out of stock, I think they will give you a new one.
But if still within the return period from your store, that would guarantee brand new, obviously. But what I’m really saying is Apple could tell you if it’s defective or not, and if within spec. Then decide what to do.
I know. Both ways have its benefits and problems. I could get their opinion if the display is considered faulty but I think when complaining about display they will change it just because you are unhappy with it. But problem gets even worse if you end up getting worse unit as replacement, I could wind endless return cycle. From my past experience with different kind of displays has been that they rarely get better by replacing with new, you just get other problems in different places of the screen and possibly some completely new issues. Like I mentioned, I'm already on my second iPad 2018 with screen problems (it lacks book spine issue first one had but this one still has uniformity problems, just different places than the first one).
Also even dealers and repair techs at the beginning admit there is a problem with your screen but replacements are the same or have different issues they eventually change their opinion and say that must be within manufacturers specifications. From that I can say that to me most manufacturers seems to think that if display powers up and shows any picture, it is well within specifications. All this is from my past experience with many different brand gear, so I was not talking about Apple, because up until now I have been getting good screens with my previous Apple devices.
Surely I could return it to the store but I have already returned two (2017 and 2018) iPad and while this dealer has good return policy, I'm not sure I want to take my chances to end up black listed customer and not being able to buy something else from them later on. I would have to just return it without claiming it faulty, because if being honest about it, they would direct me to deal with service and by just returning it and then going to buy another just raises the red flag, especially since I've done it twice already. I also got mine for very cheap price and I even had mine price matched after purchase, so after all it just does not feel fair to me, even it would be possible.
Ok, you might be right above re 18 being a bit snappier than 17 but not by much, i kept both my wife has the 17 and i the 18, the 18 has a bit warmer screen but its adjustable in settings, I am not getting any of your screen problems on mine that i can see.
Right, you actually have to use it with your everyday tasks and you start to notice difference in speed. It is not just about how quickly apps open, and I don't think that is even relevant measurement of the speed difference between different generation products.
Maybe warmer screen temperature in 18 vs 17 model causes partly what I'm experiencing with my unit. I know that eyes are less sensitive to blue colour and that's why cooler display may appear more uniform than warm display where your eye may see even slightest variations.
ps i got my 18 32gb 4G brand new for 1/2 price so not going to go looney over screen checking, have been down the light bleed problem with previous iPads.
If its not noticeable in normal use all good.
Similar case here, I got mine basically for what they sell discounted old 2017 models, so can't complain about that.
Depending on use, display issues are not visible most of the time, but with even white or gray backgrounds they tend to show up if look for them (which is something that you tend to see once you have noticed it).
I still have few days to decide what to do, I may try to get used to it, especially after reading this old thread once again
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/uneven-tint-uniformity-on-1500-2016-mbp.2020764/
It is not about iPad but still relevant in my opinion. In that thread I could see that peoples opinions about display quality vary a lot, like some peoples post a pic of their screen saying it looks fine to them while to it looked horribly bad to me but there were also some that had exactly same opinions as I, and those who went through replacement without finding any better, so maybe somewhat similar case here with this iPad, different peoples different standards. Sorry for the long post.
