The new LCD model will be iPhone 9
iPhone X will keep the name, since only a small internal update
iPhone X Plus for the big OLED model

I think the ‘iPhone 9’ could still be fitting, I’m curious to see how they will label the 6.1 LCD iPhone, as I think the 5.8/6.5 iPhones might be a little bit more obvious with its title, but three new iPhones alone should be interesting how they all correlate together in Apples terminology.

2018 iPhones:
  • iPhone 8S
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Plus
2019 iPhones:
  • iPhone 8X
  • iPhone XX
  • iPhone XX Plus

The 8s doesn’t seem likely because its to conflating with an old design compared to a new design for the 6.1 LCD iPhone.

Also, It isn’t even remotely believable or practical for marketing for the 2019 iPhone titles you have listed.

iPhone 9
iPhone X (same name, iPhone X 2017/iPhone X 2018)
iPhone X Plus

-----------

iPhone SE 2?

I think they may want to keep the iPhone X name as they did with OS X and then name the phones beyond that after something. It would make sense for them to do this based on the names of the processor architecture a bit like naming OS X after cats and then California landmarks.

For example this year’s iPhone would be the “iPhone X Bionic”. Of course I’d hope they would think up a better name than Bionic that I’ve never personally liked. This way it allows them to move forwards in years to come with clarity. In summary I’d guess this year we would have:

iPhone X [insert processor branding]
iPhone X Plus [insert processor branding]
iPhone C [insert processor branding] (stolen from another member’s suggestion that I think makes a lot of sense!)

I'd assume they'll probably go with iPhone 9 and XI (11) going forward. I don't like it, but it's what they seem to be doing by leaving out the 9 previously (and going with 8 alongside the launch of X) and then also because of the use of X in the current OLED model.

Like your iPad naming guesses, these are equally unlikely to happen. ;)

I like this idea, except I think it’s cleaner to just use the year of release as the differentiator. So the current model is always just iPhone / iPhone X / iPhone X Plus, with previous years versions retrospectively distinguished with the addition of the year. So current X becomes iPhone X (2017).

I certainly don’t like the idea of an iPhone 9 launching alongside an iPhone 11, a year after the iPhone 10. And I can’t imagine Apple would either. But, then again, I thought the same last year about 8 launching alongside 10 and skipping 9, but they still did it.

iPhone (2018)
iPhone Plus (2018)
iPhone C (2018)

Doubtful. I don’t see Apple venturing onto the iPhone ‘C’ or just the iPhone ‘Plus’. I Think it will be a bit more dynamic than that in terms of the naming/numbering.

They may not use C but I do think they will move away from numbers. I put C because I couldn't think what they will call the LCD iPhone.

I doubt there will be a iPhone XI. (Maybe 11, but not XI.)

Other than that, I've no idea. It is certainly quite the mystery this year.

Mark my words
iPhone (6.1" LCD)
iPhone Pro (5.8" OLED)
iPhone Pro Plus (6.5" OLED)

So the smaller iPhone is an iPhone pro but it was also the iPhone X the year before?

I don’t disagree with you - but that would be very confusing to the general public

The numbered scheme has been their one of their strongest sales tactics ever.

“iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPhone 6” - people just get it. The general public just gets it.

I could see them abandoning it from now on, but it is a powerful marketing tool itself

The Pro name scheme has nothing to do with the size but with the new hardware and the fact that it’s going to support Apple Pencil, the Plus is just a bigger version of the Pro.

6,1 inch - iphone SL (instead of SE2)
5,8 inch - iphone XS
6,4 inch - iphone XL

Pro Plus is a brand name of caffeine tablets designed to help people stay awake. Don’t know if they’re a thing in other countries, but in the UK an iPhone named that would face endless ridicule.
iPad was thought to be ridicule but in the end it still worked.

Same with Nintendo Wii

Wouldn't it be weird if history shows there was never an iPhone "9"?

I initially thought they may've gone with 11, 11C & 11 Plus.

But my alt theory is 11, 9 & 11 Plus....which looks distorted, so maybe I'll stick with my first prediction...
It would be weirder to have a Brand new model to be 9 when the count is at 11. Skippping numbers is very common, but releasing a new product with a number smaller than the current versión is not, at all. It means regression. and according to the dictionary:

re·gres·sion

noun
  1. a return to a former or less developed state.

That fits no brand new product. So anything smaller than 10 is out of the question.

I feel like the one thing I kinda know for sure is the name of the 6.1” phone as I feel like it will simply be called iPhone.

The X models I’m not sure of because of can’t see them going with XI at all..

Idk what they do... iPhone, iPhone Pro and iPhone ... idk lol
