The reason I gave a little more time to the iPhone and Apple Watch I’m my estimations is because of any software demos they might want to show off such as for the iPhone X and Apple Watch software features that weren’t shown off at WWDC. The iPad Pro will be getting the biggest update by the looks of it, a new design with less bezels and Face ID, I’m looking forward to that announcement and no doubt they will have a video to show off, maybe even some new accessories such as a new keyboard and Apple Pencil.

It is definitely doable especially when you consider last years WWDC was packed with hardware, also the rumoured 13” MacBook/Macbook Air update was rumoured to be at WWDC this year but was delayed (according to Mark Gurman) so it would make sense to announce it at the September event if Apple is planning on getting it out there as soon as possible, as you mention there is also the back to school. Fingers crossed we see all of this at the September keynote I will be very happy if we do.

Ah. You’re right. Some special software features on the big X could make sense. It’s ginormous. Perhaps split screen support?

I’d be happy (but poor) if all this happens in September. Mainly because I have a Us trip scheduled for October. If not, then I’ll have to wait till March. Will I bitch and moan? Of course. It’s MR but I’ll get over it and life keeps moving on.

I also don’t get the set 2 hour rule. What happens if they go to 230 instead? People are going to revolt? Pee in their seats? ‍♂️‍♂️

Yea that would make sense, there’s usually something that gets left out at WWDC that they show off for iPhone or iPad. Maybe they will even do the same for the new MacBook Air, show off Mojave on it. That won’t take very long tho which is why I added the extra time.

I’m not sure because Apple themselves have proven that they are often willing to go over the 2 hour line, WWDC 2017 was two hours and twenty minutes long, the 2015 September event was also two hours an twenty mimutes long. Last years September event was one hour fifty six. So you can see how they tend to be different. I just think people have got it into their heads that Apple will stick to a specific time ie 2 hours.

Also potential for an updated (maybe a smaller) Pencil that supports the 2018 iPhones? That could use some demo time.

Random question... but why do people think Apple will drop more MacBook Pros? They just refreshed the line-up last month.

I haven’t heard they will be but here’s a wild guess from spending time in the Mac mini and iMac threads

Apparently intel is releasing some super duper 9th gen chip on October 1st. The MB is the ultraportable, new rumored 1299 MBwhatever hits the mid market. A silent upgrade to the MBPs with the new chip pushes them a bit higher in the lineup and avoids any cannibilization from the low end.

Just a guess btw. Don’t hold me to it

Answer: wishful thinking. :)

It is the reason why I was convinced that Apple was going to produce an iPad Mini Plus earlier this year... because I really wanted an updated Mini w/Pencil support. :D

I’m losing track of which thread I’m posting in so sorry if this is a repeat.

I actually think we WILL see an iPad with the mini chassis . It just won’t be called iPad mini.

Take the iPad 329. Knock off the beZels. Add Face ID. Voila. New “iPad”. Chassis size very close to mini screen is 9.7.

The 329 iPad become ePad. Education and low end. They can charge a premium for the new bezelless 9.7.

So you’ll have iPad (9.7 bezelless with faceid and pencil support)

iPad SE or ePad (9.7 bezelled with Touch ID)

iPad Pro 11
iPad Pro 12.9

Makes almost too much sense. Perhaps not this year. March 2019.

October 2018, only one new model (11-12"), A12(x), 4 GB RAM, LCD Display with ProMotion, No Notch but FaceID with thicker bezels than iPhone X, massive camera upgrade (dual lense), new Apple pencil with 2 sizes, new keyboards, 2 color options in line with current iPhone X.

I hope they don’t do away with the 12.9” - it is for artist and so much better than the smaller ones. I think it is a perfect size. I was thinking about a mini - with pencil support oh wait that should be the iPhone X plus!!! I can’t for that to happen (former Note 8 user). But I do have a Bamboo stylus I use with my iPhone X.

I have the 1st generation iPP 12.9”, I am planning on upgrading. I heard (confirmed) that Adobe is making a full version of Photoshop to work with iPP - so you know it has to be some big upgrade....

I think a 12.9 iPad definitely serves it’s purpose and more geared towards the Apple Pencil where you can have those who can take advantage of the larger display with editing, drawing/sketching, etc. I think was a brilliant move by Apple to produce a larger iPad years back and it really does make a difference using it more as a computer with the keyboard as well as a stationary device being it is larger.

I'm certain it'll be this year due to what Kuo has said, and even perhaps in September. EEC filings for new iPads, iPhones and Watches have been known about since July; why would Apple file the iPads if they weren't ready for release yet? Yes, they could release them in October with the new Macs, but there are no filings for those yet. Whilst there have been no chassis leaks of the new iPads, the same can be said for the Watches (correct me if I'm wrong). I wouldn't put my money on September, but I don't think it's out of the question.

Would love if this was true, but increasing RAM may happen if Apple truly is committed to “laptop replacement” or at least I hope eventually we get 6, 8, or more RAM in the iPads.

It’s more or less confirmed for September with all the changes inside of IOS 12, also they won’t updat just one model, it will likely be a 11” and 12.9” both with Face ID and reduced bezels.

The September event is usually IOS and there is more than enough time to introduce the iPhone, Apple Watch Series 4 and the new iPad Pro’s.

Totally agreed. Wouldn’t make sense to drop the new design style alongside Macs when it would go alongside the new iPhones so well. I reckon the iPhones and the Watches will be most of the presentation and the Pros will be the ‘one more thing’.

Apple releases only a single iOS release per year. It doesn't mean that when they announce that new version of iOS that all hardware will be announced as well. In other words, if Apple is planning to release an iPad with FaceID and no bezels before iOS 13 is released, then they would need to bake the support for that into iOS 12... even if the hardware won't be ready when iOS 12 is released.

For example, the iPad Pro 10.5 was released months after iOS 11 was released. iOS 11 had most (if not all) support for the 10.5 at release time.

All that to say, it is my opinion that people place a little too much emphasis in what they see in the beta code in determining when Apple is going to announce hardware.

True but if it was later wouldn’t it be in something like iOS 12.1 or something like that?

In my opinion we will see iPad Pro along iPhone and Apple Watch in September because it’s IOS but I do get you’re point, they could announce at October but personally I don’t think so. If there is a October event I think it would be Mac’s but I doubt there will even be an October event. I could be totally wrong just my opinion.

@spiderman0616 and I were talking about this in a different thread. Here’s one theory.

iPhones won’t take that long this year. There’s really no new mind boggling tech here. An updated X, a big X and a stripped down X.

AirPower has already been described. Just announce the release date.

Watch is again almost the same. No beZels and 15% more screen area. The advances are in Watch OS 5 and that was covered at WWDC.

Bust out the two new iPads , introduce new accessories and then one more thing ...

The mid range or low cost MBA at 1299 with the MB dropping to the 999 slot.

Get everything out the door in time for back to school.

October the iMac and Mac mini and maybe the MBP get silent spec bumps or a press release.

This is a placeholder year for the Macs. I’m not expecting anything drastic. 2019 we may see a redesigned iMac. The modular Mac Pro scales from Mac mini at the low end to workstation at the top.

Mac mini gets an Apple TV sized form factor with ARM and is the real mini low end consumer headless Mac.

My theory anyway. September is going to be fun ... and bloody expensive.

I’ve given up guessing. Leading up to the last WWDC in June there were rumors the new ipad pros would be announced. Obviously didn’t happen. Now there are rumors they’ll be announced in September at the iphone event. But there still hasn’t been any strong leaks of ipad pros anywhere. So it could be Oct/Nov until we see them. Or maybe March of 2019. Or even at WWDC in June of 2019. Who knows! It’s a waiting game, and only Apple knows when. Until then, we all are keeping our eyes out for solid leaks. Cause rumors are just that....rumors.

I agree with everything you’ve said...apart from the back to school part. Apple are already running deals on back to school with discounts and free Beats with iPad Pros and Macs. Whatever happens, I don’t think any release is going to be targeting back to school crowds.

Well we are quite certain of the new Watch and what leaks have there been of that? Forgive me if there are but I haven’t been following it closely.

Agreed.

We wouldn't see the new iPad Pro assets in iOS 12.0 public beta unless it was an imminent launch.

If iPad Pro were a 2019 device, those assets would be in a parallel build of iOS 12 beta for internal use.

This is a good point I hadn’t considered!

https://www.macrumors.com/2018/08/24/alleged-ipad-pro-case-smart-connector/

This case leak appears to confirm the recently leaked CAD image, and must also indicate an imminent release.

I’m not paying it too much attention. The CAD image was a mock-up based on two or three sketchy leaks. This case doesn’t make sense. It’s got an old smart connector on the same side as the volume buttons. How would you use the volume controls if a keyboard is connected?

I do think we’ll see one soon. Also believe the new second smart connector is real. (Apple Pencil holder charger. Keyboard attachment where the kb still is in landscape but wraps up around the back. A dock?!?!?!) but this case leak? Meh. With 3D printing any jokester can whip one up these days.

the CAD image is from the same source like the last month...so i still believe more MNG CHO COCO more
