2018 is a bust looks wise IMO. Will there be any changes in 2019 design wise? I refuse to accept the cell phone market has reached it's peak on the hardware side(phone design), flip phone maybe?
Think the new innovations will be in some other market.
Well that's true. It looks like they are concentrating more on the camera aspects of the phone. But it really would be nice to have a different design. The X is the new design for the next 10 years IMO. Would have loved a full screen SE instead of the XR.
A full screen SE would have been nice but I guess they have the numbers to make a better informed decision.
And who said that?!![]()

Face ID is still significantly slower than Touch ID. If they were to use a combination of both, that would certainly speed up unlock times and even reduce errors, as one could cover for the other if it fails. Especially when using both at the same time. The thing about the notch is, Apple are proud of it right? Or is that part of the marketing to make us feel comfortable with it? Man this industry is about hype for the most part. Remember last year, the discussions about how the notch made the iphone distinctive and stood out instantly compared to other phones? If so, then you would think they wouldn't be too keen to remove this 'iconic' (sorry) look.
Some of us want no notch and all the tech sat behind the screen - but I wouldn't even know if that's possible (definitely not in the immediate future). But then what will make it stand out considering how much is placed on the look and feel of the phone compared to the rest?
Fingerprint sensor under the screen would be cool but, well, Face ID says hello to that.
I do think we have peaked. Anything in the next couple of years or so is going to be cosmetic. Which sort of proves Apple have it right - it is about vanity at its core.
Redesigns going forward are going to be very nuanced. How drastic can a device with an edge-to-edge display change?
Backside goes from glass to its own display? Perhaps holographic beaming?
Don’t hold your breath for any large changes like we’ve seen in years past. I agree with the others....the X design is here to stay for awhile. It’s now a matter of how small can we make the notch.

As for the notch being an “iconic look”... that’s all BS and just something the sheep came up with to defend it. The iPhone doesn’t need a notch to “stand out” from other phones. That’s just silly. I mean look at the promo pics of the iPhone XS... the notch is nowhere to be seen.
Clear, flexible display that rolls up into an object about the size of a marker.
Folding screen makes an iPad “origami” into an iPhone and vice versa.
Just a couple ideas that are already floating around. There can be drastic redesigns of these devices if the technology is there.
That’s not how burden of proof works. If YOU make a claim, YOU back it up.Google it, it was a source that's been somewhat right but not totally reliable
