I refuse to accept the cell phone market has reached it's peak
Refuse or accept, it does not matter. The fact remains that innovation on phones have slowed down as the technology matured. Next year's phones will be much like this years, not much in terms of change.

I’m not sure about that. Maybe in form factor/dispay, but rememer this was an ‘S’ year Over the 2017 X. Theoretically, there could be some significant changes being onto the third generation of the ‘2019 iPhone X’ Respectively with Face ID, ect. It’s already been rumored that next year will bring the ‘triple lens camera’, which I expect to produce interesting results for the most popular iPhone feature.

Potential to remove the notch next year, but that would be it. Ultimately we are just going to have slabs of glass that we put in cases, design doesn't make much of a difference once it is all screen. Face ID is here to stay though so we'll see what they can do. They aren't going back to physical input for authentication.

You missed my point. The maturity of smartphones is such that there's not much else to do. Sure apple will roll out the new A13 chip, it will promote the beautiful design, but features - there will be slim. I'd love to be wrong, but just look at the competition. They're swinging for the fences, not resting on their laurels and yet the only improvements we see is the camera.

When you say competition is swinging for the fences, what are you referring to? I look at everything currently on the market and I don't see any major advances either.

They're trying, because they have too, Google, Samsung yet look at the small incremental advancements. If they had something waiting in the wings in terms of true innovation, don't you think they would have rolled it out? I'm inferring with my swinging for the fences that they're trying as hard as they can, be even so, the amount of innovation has slowed.

Maybe I am confused. I thought you were saying that the competition is introducing great new advancements, while Apple has slowed. I don't see any big advancements from any manufacturers at this point. I'd consider Face ID to be the last. I think overall the market has slowed in terms of hardware (Apple and competition). In the end, software will be the only changes we see.

2018 is a bust looks wise IMO. Will there be any changes in 2019 design wise? I refuse to accept the cell phone market has reached it's peak on the hardware side(phone design), flip phone maybe?
Let's just accept reality! I expect there may be a tweak in design for 2019 iP11; for the most part it will look like the current XS. As for cost, accept it will be the same. New iP will never get lower in cost.

No the opposite, and I think I worded my post poorly. Basically they want to improve the phones, and leap frog apple, but they hadn't. I'm using that as further proof that the smartphone sector has slowed down in terms of innovation.

I’d like to see unbreakable glass, 5G and battery tech that lasts a week per charge. Hell, even battery life that lasts 2-3 days like the Apple Watch would be killer.

Makes sense, absolutely agree. Software is likely the only area we will see advancements in the short term.

I'm predicting a "teardrop" style notch for the next iPhone. Just wide enough for the front facing camera, dot projector and infrared camera.

Apple is ALREADY attempting to hide the notch, just look at the wallpaper it chose for all the XS/Max ads. Do you see a notch? Neither do I! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2019 Apple keynote eliminating the notch: "The iPhone's spacious organic visual plain implores unobstructed views. iPhone 11 delivers this technological marvel of engineering!" - can't you just hear Jonny Ive explaining that his video right now? So can I!
[doublepost=1537363734][/doublepost]TBH I EXPECT Apple to at least be able to provide a better camera than the Pixel 3, in 2019.
Because Apple has not bested the 2017 Pixel 2 camera here in 2018, I eliminate the XS/Max from upgrade consideration.

Like others I can't see much changing appearance-wise in the next year or two apart from possibly shrinking or eliminating the notch. If that's how things do pan out I'd actually see that as potentially a good thing if it focuses Apple's engineers on trying to compensate by doing something dramatic with the battery life to create a "wow" moment for next year's launch.

We got an Xs this year with a battery life that, that according to Apple is about 30 minutes longer than last year's X. I got really excited during the live stream of the launch event because I thought he was about to say "30 percent longer" and was pretty deflated when the next word after "30" was "minutes" not "percent". 30% longer is the sort of step-change in battery life that, if Apple could work out how to do it without simply making the phone 30% thicker and heavier, would in my opinion be enough on its own to gather a heck of a lot of attention and good reviews for next year's iPhone even if it looks essentially the same on the outside as the Xs/Xs Max.

Macrumors is suggesting along with others that the new iPad Pro will have USB-C.

There was actually a thread on this. One person assumed the the XS and XS Max didn't have a notch, because of the wallpaper in the advertising. You couldn't see the notch.

Apple will get going once Samsung re-introduces flip phone in this market.... by flip phones I mean the bendable screen.

In order to build a higher pixel density XR replacement for 2019, maybe Apple could choose the 401 ppi LCD of the Plus series. What they could do is use the same LCD sheets to create 19.5:9 2216x1024 screens. That would be 401 ppi.

However, that would mean having to render at 2688x1242 and then downscaling to 2216x1024. This could be done, as this is similar to what is already down with the Plus iPhones. Cost wouldn't be nearly as expensive as OLED, but it would still be an excellent screen.

If they did this next year, I'd consider buying one, even without a telephoto. Because it's being rendered at the exact same resolution as the Max, performance would be about the same on the Xr, minus the small penalty from downscaling.

They could sell this product at $799, and bring in a smaller LCD version using a 326 ppi screen to pair with the Xs.

Foldable phones are next. Turns into a mini iPad from the phone..

But I don’t know that will be the case this year, because Face ID has been rumored to be faster over the previous iPhone X. This is a thread discussing that.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/how-much-faster-is-face-id-about-twice-as-fast.2139231/

It’s a tad bit faster. But once iOS12.1 comes out they will introduce Face ID in landscape mode! Which would be great!

I'm certain that Apple hold back on things they could deliver now, so they have something in store in the event they can't get tech advances to work. One of those this year must be Pro Motion. I can't believe they can't deliver it to iPhone, so I think they're deliberately withholding it.

Once they've scrapped the notch, there's not much left to deliver except 'S' grade updates every year to the camera, processor and battery.

S/he’s confusing the landscape mode rumours for the iPad Pro update this fall.

No rumours of landscape mode for the iPhone this year.

Yes for the iPhone, not mistaking. 12.1 or 12.2 will be here..

What’s the source of this info though

Let me try and find it, I read so much daily on what’s going on. Some being true and some not for sure tho. But for 4 years now I read everyday on what’s going on with Apple. **** I need a life..
