XR user. I won't be upgrading until at least 2020. I wonder if that’ll be the year Apple releases a 5G iPhone.

I’m thinking 2020 will be for 5G as well, I don’t see 2019 being the year for 5G at this point, although USB-C is seeming more likely.

Agreed. Apple probably wouldn't rush out a 5G modem when not enough carriers will offer it. I think the 2019 iPhones will struggle to entice many. They're going to have to step it up to win a lot of people's upgrades.

For me, it's either stick with my iPhone XS Max w/ a good iOS 13 upgrade or go back to Android with a $600 or less purchase w/ the S10E, Pixel 3/Pixel 4 (depends on features and price), or the OnePlus 7T. Waiting until my phone becomes about a year old to make it at least worth the mileage on it. I think the XS Max should retain value enough for me to sell my phone for about $700 or so. If I can get that much for it and buy something more along the $400 price point, I can pocket the savings considering I paid only $500 for my XS Max.

Apple may have something up their sleeve that nobody is expecting and will create a flurry of upgrades
Remember that Tim Cook has successfully doubled down on eliminating leaks. Time will tell. Especially if the WWDC brings exciting new phones on board

I only upgraded to the iPhone 8 back in December so it's very unlikely i'll upgrade anytime soon the 8 does a lot of what the newer models do like wireless charging or fast charging so like most unless something is really mind blowing i cant see myself upgrading for a good 2/3 years

Not really. Actually, 2017 was one of the worst years for for leaks under Cook, if you recall the HomePod code that leaked iPhone X information, Apple Watch code, etc. Right before the 2017 Fall keynote, more hardware and pictures of the iPhone/Apple Watch leaked out in addition.

iPhones are getting way too expensive to make any sense as a yearly upgrade. I'm still on a 7, and when the battery starts having problems it will get a new battery. Don't see any "must-have" features on any of the phones they made after the 7 to justify the crazy prices.

That’s what I said and did in 2018. Even replaced the battery for $29 on my iPhone 7 in December. Then I decided to stop punishing myself and traded in the iPhone 7 for an Xs. I couldn’t be happier. Wish I had done that sooner. If the next few iPhones have that square camera setup then i’ll be keeping the Xs for a very long time. Only upgrade that might change my mind is the refresh rate.

If Apple decides to just put better internals and no real change to the 2019 lineup then why would people upgrade their iPhones knowing that 5G and Foldable iPhones are coming soon
I have a feeling Apple has a surprise for the 2019 lineup. Maybe it’s an underscreen Face ID. Only time will tell
One thing I really kniw is that Apple is not paying enough attention to the iPhone now that it’s involved with so many projects like
VR, AR. AL, project Titan etc

Few things:

1.) ‘Foldable iPhones’ aren’t even a reality yet from Apple, and that might be years away before we even see anything like this, and the average consumer isn’t paying attention to the market like others do you on here. There’s no guarantee of a foldable iPhone.

2.) The triple lens camera is definitely coming for the iPhone 2019 model, I still think you’ll have a large swath of consumers who willl upgrade, simply because the opportunity of 5G may not be here until 2020 by all accounts.

I have a feeling Apple has a surprise for the 2019 lineup. Maybe it’s an underscreen Face ID.

The technology for Face ID completely removing the notch and being under the display isn’t even possible likely without component reduction. Not to mention, there’s really nothing indicating that Apple would even be experimenting with something like this, and even if they did, it wouldn’t be for 2019,

Same was said about the iPhone 7 and 7 plus, didn’t seem to make a difference to consumers though.

I used to like to just upgrade every couple of years - just love getting a new phone. However, my experience with two XS Maxes (both with with poor and unstable connectivity) in the fall has led me to be much more satisfied to keep an older phone that just works the way it should.

Running back and forth to the Apple store with no fixes for me other than to return the phones has made me leery.

Im also due for a new iPad Pro but as my 2016 9.7 is working just fine, I’m holding off.

I don't know I own a XS might go for the annual upgrade system as long as they increase battery and reduce the notch on the front.

Don't know about the cameras, but wouldn't upgrade alone for that.

Almost a month ago I upgraded to the gold XS Max and couldn’t be happier. I have no reception issues and the size of the phone is perfect for me. I have been paying attention to the rumors for this year’s upgrade and it all depends on wether I like the new refreshes. I will be upgrade eligible in September. If I don’t like what Apple put out, I’ll be happy to keep my XS Max until 2020.

I have an 8 and an SE that I use for work. I wont upgrade until Apple sells a smaller X.

still on the 7 plus... phone works great for now but im sure ios13 will slow it down a tad.

i'm itching for a new phone, this is the longest i've been with 1 device since i got my first iPhone in 2008.

might just look for a discounted XS Max in september when the new models are released. don't care for the triple cameras that much.

Finally woke up and will not upgrade again until my iPhone XS kaput’s ;)

Me too. The Xs reminds me very much of the 5s. Everybody raved about the 5 and X because they looked different but the true improvements came with the S year.

Something else to pay attention to, watch the marketplace forums on here. You will find quite a few reputable forum members who will sell their XS for relatively cheap once the fall keynote arrives, usually you can find them in excellent to mint condition. It just depends what you’re looking for specifically.

I still have my 7 plus and am shocked how long it's been. I don't like the notch design much and would prefer a minimalist bezel that went across the top or some magic way to make it invisible. I would like to upgrade if there was some kind of solution to the notch problem, and if I could afford it at that time - I was shocked at the prices of the X and XS Max.

I realise many people love the notch but I'm not so keen on it.

I don't love the notch. It's a non-issue for me. I've found that I don't even notice it when I'm using the phone. For me it was similar to my concern about how I'd used a home button for so many years and I wondered if I could get used to not having it. Took me about five minutes after I got my iPhone X.

The notch isn’t enough to keep me on an older iPhone but I too am not a fan of the notch

It hasn’t aged well. Looks old school now Next to smaller notch phones (ugh notch copycats outdoing the silly idea in first place), and especially next to what is imo cool implementation - the s10e holepunch

I have a feeling this years iPhones won’t do anything with the notch

I really didn’t need to go x to xr in the fall but I appreciate the extended battery when im on the metro and have periods of
Time without service

I have a big standby apple gift card but still not sure if I’ll upgrade or not
